actually, G43 should be reloaded in the same way as this one afaik.
Yes and no. Yes, G43 uses the same five-round stripper clips. But, it uses a detachable box magazine as well, and every soldier was issued with three magazines (one in the gun, two spares). Once you had shot through the three magazines, you were supposed to reload the magazines using the stripper clips (which you could do when the magazine was detached).

Afaik soldiers were reloading G43 with stripper clips and were equipped with one detachable box in reserve. It was rather rare to have more but I'm not realy sure about it - nevermind, back on topic: great rifle, would be cool to have some RARE pickup kits of it in late africa maps ;)

I think it's actually more realistic to have them in Normandy and Eastern Front. Many people think of them as early war weapons, but most were produced in 1943 and they were still in production in 1944. The 352nd Infanterie (St Lo, PeB, Omaha if it comes to that) reports no G43s, but G41s for June 1944 in their arsenal. I actually know more pics of G41s in Normandy than off G43s.

And the SVT aswel. Sometimes spare magazines where issued, but most of the time, it was stripper clips for all of these rifles

i do hope these become a rather limited weapon. Not that many where built, and they suffered a horrible attrition ratio in the first years of the eastfront

still there is something fancy about the G41....something wich makes me prefer it over the G43 ;D

I think it might be that large barrel shroud thing (part of the recoil system?) that makes it look so badass, like it shoots really big bullets ;D

The G41 was a nightmare for troops, but the G43 was very well recieved

That's the gas system. It uses a Bang-type gas trap. This came out of the idiotic requirement by the German higher ups that no holes be drilled in the barrel. It was one of the main bad parts about the rifle because it could become fouled very easily. The Bang-type gas trap came out of Denmark actually, and was messed around with by John Garand during the making of the M1. He actually decided to do a compromise; drill a gas port in the barrel but do it near the muzzle. While this was a good compromise, in reality it sucked. The gas system is incredibly long and has a very long stroke. With the M1 carbine, which has the gas port only a few inches from the chamber, the short stroke gas piston only has to travel about 7-8mms to have enough force to push the bolt and bolt carrier back.

Yet the yanks still won the war with there garands. So that has to count for something

It actually worked reliably, unlike the G41. That's what made it a winner.

The G41 was back then quite the promise. But typically german, it is made far to overcomplicated for its goal.

simplicity ftw
