Mine would have to be the controversial Foy. Damn I loved that map even in the later stages. I also miss Arnhem and Karelia to the nth degree. Those were fun maps!!! :'(
Is there still a huge FH1 following?
-
Rheinebung midway kasserine
-
I have never played FH1 online, but I did eventually buy BF42 just for the mod so I could see what the fuss was all about.
I have to say that the maps in it I'd love to see in FH2 would be Battle of Britain (or other mainly aereal map), the afore mentioned Foy and finally Kasserine Pass.
-
Yep, Foy.
-
Kasserine Pass is one
another being ... erh, Arnhem, and Pavlov's House... can't forget those epic shovel charges.
-
Wake.
-
I so want the eastern fronts... my missed favourite would be the Valirisk by ArminAce, so random, yet so fun. I missed that element ever since FH get too serious and start ditching WW2 BS like Ramelle.
-
Kharkov Outskirts, Prokhorovka and Seelow Heights. Gosh... those were great maps. :)
I was also very fond towards 0.7's Saipan which was hardly ever played. Stashuv Area was great aswell. And now that I think of it, I also miss Cretan Village (that would make a great FH2 remake (hint hint community mappers, hint hint!!)) and Soletschnogorsk. Gold Beach and Operation Nordwind were awesome too!
I remember Zielona Gora and 0.7's Midway with warm memories.
But best out of these all? Ah man, such a hard question... Maybe it is Kharkov Outskirts...
-
Kharkov outskirts was great
Their where quiet some maps on FH1 that i disliked. Many where in the advantage of the Germans. And when servers like TDP added even better german tanks on maps without adding even ONE single Better allied tank, i played more offline then online
(For instance, TDP added Panzers III Ausf M on El alamein, and lots of other vehicles, but withouth changing even one allied vehicle to compensate)
-
In order of which I liked playing the most.
Sector 318 most awesome allied tank ambushing atleast for me
Breakthrough 1944
Norwind
The Storm like this map
Berlin outskirts
guadel
iwo jima
-
Pavlovs house, Stalingrad, Karkhov, Iwo Jima, Ramelle Nueville, Battle of Britain, Berlin Upskirts, Hellendorn, Monte Cassino, Foy, Breakthrough at Vienna, Kursk the list just goes on...
-
In no particular order: Midway, Ramelle Neuville, Arnhem, Alpenfestung, Karelia.
<3
-
Alpenfestung, Karelia, BoB, Rheinuebung, Gold Beach, Arnhem
-
kharkov 1942
it's funny to destroy tanks with ptrs
bulge
what can i say destroying allied tanks with puma is pure fun ;D
-
Berlin Outskirts.
-
counterattack-1940
-
Ah, yes. And all the other early war maps too.
-
Ah, yes. And all the other early war maps too.
Karelia
-
counterattack-1940
Seconded. Loved that one! It was barely played but the option of 3 armies was always awesome. And those awesome tanks you got with it for free :)
-
good old fh1
So my favourite was bulge,
but i really loved midway, iwo jima , zielona gora , foy , kasserine pass , prokorovka , berlin , and Aleutine(????).
-
What was the deal with Foy? Wasn't that map redone from .5 to .65 or something rather and it caused a big shitstorm of controversy? Or am I thinking of a different map? I vaguely recall it but I always remember the map being a really great map. Loved the troop hanging dead from his chute up in the tree lol.
-
"battle of orel" and "operation blacknight" will always be remembered by me.
-
Berlin Outskirts.
Berlin Streets.
Stashuv Area.
Saipan 1944.
Eastern Blitz (The City envoirment was awesome, i remember the P11 Flying over me and 109s on their Tails..)
And probably, one of the BEST Maps out there.
Breaktrough 1944.
Sector 318 With the Glider Kit was really kool.
-

i actually liked the early/original FH1 approach of foy. the close combat one when allies had to take a hold in the city to utilizy the power provided by the close-combat weapons like the greasegun.
0.65/7 foy was nice but that longstretched map just replaced a real pearl.
-
counterattack-1940
Seconded. Loved that one! It was barely played but the option of 3 armies was always awesome. And those awesome tanks you got with it for free :)
Thirded!
And Karelia.
-
Rhienuebung. and Iwo Jima. When Iwo comes around, I hope that its actual size and there are a couple maps to make up the entire island, that'd be awesome.
-
Alpenfestung,Blacknight
Like to see those Me-262,Me-163,Go-229,Ar-234 ;)
-

-
Breakthrough 1944 and Alpenfestung 1945.
-
Battle of Orel
-
I miss the eastern front and midway the most :). loved strafing those landing ships with a zero so much.
Eastern front for me was one big massive firefight.
-
Bocage, for P-38
:o
Never played FH1, but this almost makes me consider getting '42 and downloading 0.7...
-
Bocage was unfortunately a rubbish BF42 map with FH goodies on it. What was the uttermost worst about the map was it was one of the most played maps and constantly ruining good evenings with FH for it being the next map every damn time you went to play.

In the Hell of Bocage, however, was an FH map and much, much nicer.

Correctomundo.

Battle of Britain

Alpenfestung ;D
Kursk outskirts

Hell of Bocage
Really enjoyed playing those maps
Why hasn't Omaha been mentioned yet?
Why the hell would anyone miss that piece of crap ??? I left server every time it came up.
-
despite making my choice earlier on, i also want to mention "alpenfestung" in a honorable way.
too bad it slipped my mind in the first attempt.
-
For Normandy? Omaha Beach, I think :D
-
Indeed a good reminder. I always joined the server if they ran Omaha that round.
-
Why hasn't Omaha been mentioned yet?
Because it's still a lot played map in FH0.7.
-
arnhem, remagen

Haha, I thought I only had a couple of fave FH1 maps, but reading through this thread is one hell of a trip through memory lane. Didn't fully realise before how much FH 1 maps there actually were in total. And apart from a few exceptions they were all pretty cool. It really feels like yesterday since I was playing these maps but it has to be more than two years now. Even before FH2 came out I couldn't find any decent/populated FH1 servers anymore here in Holland.
I really miss the jap-maps. Iwo Jima and Tarawa being my favorite. There was just so much to do on those maps: dug-in stationaries, ships, tanks, planes, everything. Really liked the map design for those two.
Pavlovs House is one that comes to mind also. Really surprising to see that such a small map could stay so entertaining. Loved the constant flag switching (it rarely stayed capped by one side more than a couple of minutes) and the teamspirit you experienced when defending the house against german tanks.
Have some fond memories of Karelia also. The victorious feeling when you finally conquered the little beach as the Finns...
The same for Battle Of Stalingrad . Sometimes it could take ages for the Russians to get a foot hold on the beach, but it was all the more satisfying.
Man, I could go on for hours, but I guess my preferred maps were the more specific ones (like Pegasus Bridge), compared to the more basic maps where you just have two armies go at it with tanks, planes and all. And the ones which took place in a sort of "forgotten" (or niche-)setting of WWII, like Karelia (or Zielona Gora).
Hmm, before I get all mushy and emotional, let me just name two maps I miss per theatre and be done with it:
Pacific: Iwo Jima, Tarawa
Africa: My faves were Tobruk and Crete but we already have those in FH2. :)
East: apart from the three already mentioned: Seelow Heights, Eastern Blitz
West: Gold Beach, Arnhem (I'm dutch so there ;))
Honorable mention goes to Alpenfestung. I loved that one because of all the experimental hardware. Same for Black Knight although I had the feeling that one didn't really catch on.
P.S. While going through the list of maps on the FH1 site I noticed that Sicily was missing. Was that one not an official FH map, or is it just not mentioned becuase it didn't fit in any of the theatres?
-
Alpenfestung ;D
Kursk outskirts
Pavlov's house
Prokhorovka
Desert rose
The Storm, NKL-26 ftw :D
Hell of Bocage
Really enjoyed playing those maps

Great maps you suggested ;)
And FFFUUUU with Omaha Charlie sector. It was a terrible map. It was one gaint Massive german whore fest. Allies recieve nothing as support, the germans had those impossible to capture bunkers, Then All servers gave the Germans(above the pak40's and Nebelwerfers) 15CM Kustengeschutz AND Todt batterie!
That map was three times the whore fest of PDH in the beginning, but then the ENTIRE round like that.

-
arnhem, remagen
Can't wait to see what FH2 will do to Arhnem, Einhoven, Nimwegen and the Dutch landscape once we break out of Normandy. hopefully these might be map specific battles instead of like combining them all into one map as 5 points
-
Omaha Charlie Sector
Meuse River Line

-
Rhienuebung. and Iwo Jima. When Iwo comes around, I hope that its actual size and there are a couple maps to make up the entire island, that'd be awesome.
This has been my wish for several years ;D The FH1 Iwo was so tiny. Yes, yes, I know, it was as vanilla map. I just hope, whenever it comes, that the FH2 Iwo will be much, much bigger.
Oh, and i'd also like Omaha, as it was my most played map in FH1.
-
Sector 318
Alpenfest
-
0.65/7 foy was nice but that longstretched map just replaced a real pearl.
Agreed...They should have just named the new one "Another 300 yards north of that other Foy map" and left them both. ;)
-
Charlie Sector
Karelia (sp?)
-
I would say
Midway
Alpenfestung
-
actually I miss for Normandy Omaha Beach, Arnhem + Market Garden and Liberation of Caen.
I just love city and big assault maps :D
-
To be fair, if I could choose only 1, it would be berlin streets.
-
If i had to choose, id pick Tarawa and Berlin Streets.
-
I was a big fan of the Pacific maps and odd ball maps.
I loved Iwo Jima, Tarawa, and Midway, as well as Rheinubung (spelling?) because of the ship and airplane combat. As for land maps, I liked The Storm, Omaha Dog Green (not towards the end when it was overplayed), Berlin Outskirts, and probably a ton others that I can't remember right now.
-
i miss the pacific.
wake, midway, tawara, saipan, makin, iwo jima....all those were made of pure awesomness
-
Arhnem Iwo Jima Rheinubung
-
As we're talking Omaha; Does anyone know where I can find some pictures of Omaha beach 1944. Now, I mean pictures showing the beach, aswell as the cliffside etc. A good view. Most D-day pictures only show parts of the cliffside. I've been to Omaha beach, but it was rather hard to imagine how it looked like, because of all the vegetation, nor did the museums have any pictures I hadn't already seen before. Maybe someone can post some aerial photos, if there are any. And one more question; How accurate is the FH1 Charlie sector? Thanks in advance.
-
Lots and lots of Pacific Love on this thread! Hopefully the devs will take note ...
-
Also Seelow & Breakthrough
-
Rheinuebung, Arnhem,Iwo Jima, Omaha :P, old school polish maps. I loved so much of FH1
-
Best Infantry Combat: Zielona Gora, Karelia
Best Tank Combat: Prokhorovka, Seelow heights
Best Air: Coral sea, Bombing the Reich
Best Naval: Rheinuebung
Best air-land-sea: Midway, Tarawa
Best CloseCombat: Arnheim, Ramelle, Berlin streets
..
I hated all the vanilla BF converted maps, besides Midway. This was one of the most enjoyable FH maps with the variety of naval, air and land combat. But of course only Midway would be boring, so I would also vote for some Eastern Front Tank maps like Orel or Prokhorovka. The third part would be some Infantry based maps like Zielona Gora or Berlin Streets.
I could go on, FH 0.7 is just amazing because of the huge choice of different scenarios. I should give it a try again, haven´t deleted it yet :D
-
I miss Midway
I still get that big epic feeling seeing all the ships and planes on that map on a full server
-
I can't seem to remember several maps mentioned here. Maybe I haven't played them, or maybe my mind got too expanded since then ;)
The ones I really enjoyed are:
Midway 1942 - for having to roll on an elevator with the Hellcats before you could leave the carrier and the massive airbattles with lots of planes. Just beautiful.
Foy - intense cqc, loved it.
Battle for Stalingrad 1942 - hiding in a bombed out house shooting Russian infantry advancing towards the Red Square. Great. Sneaking through rubble and ruins to cap flags under the prying eyes of German infantry. Epic.
and an honorable mention for Berlin Outskirts: it gave anti tank gunning a new dimension.
-
The Maps I enjoyed the most(and still enjoy occasionally when i see Pixelfighter occupied) are:
Tobruk
Liberation of Caen
Berlin Streets
and...
PAVLOV!
-
Everything with warm, sandy beaches .. palm trees, blue skies and .. banzaii charges !
-
I miss having an air battle map, like Battle for Britain or Bombing the Reich. I also miss Arnhem and Pegusus. Naval Battles on Rhinenubung, who could forget those. I would love to see Tulagi Island as well.
I think this topic should have had a vote for selecting the top 5 FH maps.
-
Hehe, FH1 was back when I was tagged (GFAQS)AbuzerNL or Weedsmoker/Feyenoorder! Good ol' fun those days..
Pavlov was great of course, also miss zielona and karelia!
Really miss it now, there was so much variety compared to FH2, and an epic feeling in some maps. Pegasus bridge of course (just running at that bridge and dying, could do that for an entire map), Omaha (same heroic suicidal motives ;) ), Arnhem was the best city map ever - the feeling that you had when you chased an axis tank and finally piat'ed it in the end!.
But the winner for me has to go to Ramelle-Neuville ;D . Jesus-on-a-fh-bike I loved that map. Countless hours, in which I could have easily graduated twice, I have spent on gunning down advancing germans or killing my way back across the bridge. I would pay serious money to see a glorious (bit wider) map in FH2 of Ramelle!
-
But the winner for me has to go to Ramelle-Neuville.
---
I would pay serious money to see a glorious (bit wider) map in FH2 of Ramelle!
"Your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash!"
THERE WILL BE A Ramelle Neuville remake in FH2.
Plus, if you would have been stalking what they have recently played on the test seffffzzzzzzztttt....
-
