Wreck and Treasure Hunting.
« on: 27-03-2010, 00:03:08 »
Hello,
I found two things recently that I figured you people might find intresting:
1.) The wreck of a rare Curtiss SB2C Helldiver in Oregon (United States, for those who arn't fimiliar with the States) by loggers in the forest; no not 'Our Lumberjacks'.

Picture of an Curtiss SB2C Helldiver (Yes, it's a model)

Article: http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_212292215.shtml

2.) If anyone is looking for a fun and adventurous  investment , I found the perfect solution for you...
http://www.worldwar2treasure.com/
- A group that enjoys searching for WW2 Treasure  :o. Looks intresting. Seems like they are currently focusing on Japenese projects and Asain treasure. Looks like it might be worth looking into, if I had spare money to invest I might try to join up.

Let me know what you think,
Oddball  :)

I prefer Japanese planes to American ones. I guess it's a matter of taste

Yes, Personal opinion, but American ones were much more rugged, and I think they look nicer.  ;)

Not many treasure hunters here?

Seriously, treasure hunters sounds just wrong. And after reading that website I can't stand their ego. 'Amateurs tried to dig this up but luckily they called us *cause we are all awesome*'

Anyways, I don't know what kind of treasure they are looking for but I sometimes go out with a friend searching for WW2 militaria, metal detector, spade and location of WW2 military encampments, depots, battles, etc. are all you need.

I can't go treasure hunting as of now :'( But still, you really think rugged looks better? I like the sleek lines of Japanese engineering, especially the Ki-84. If I could get one of those, just to have, I would be all over it.

Yeah, I did notice that first part, too. Kind of a turn-off with prevailing a little bit of their arrogance, but they probably do have a little bit more knowledge and experience with the subject. Since the Japenese would commonly 'booby-trap' stuff, similar to pirates.

I also do the same, I'm an amateur treasure hunter and just go metal detecting and searching historical sites (with authorization) and see if I might find anything of intrest, havn't been too lucky so far. I'd love to search for WW2 equiptment, but Since I live in North America, there really is no places I can go, until I travel to Europe, Or the Pacific.

If I interpreted it correctly, It looks as if they are searching for actual War Treasure, such as stolen gold and other valuables from China when they invaded and stole such goods. Kind of like the SS gold, I assume.

@ Desertfox, Yeah, there are a couple nice Japenese planes, but ultimately I would prefer any American Plane over a Jap one...

Criminal where I come from...except my dad maybe.... American planes, besides a few exceptions in my opinion are pretty crappy. Especially late war Japanese planes. Good and perdy.

I like the USN planes look like of WW2.

Especialy the Helldiver. Once it's diving issue's where solved, it become one epic shit dive bomber. 2 500KG bombs, 2 20MM guns.

And not to mention the armor, pretty decent speed and manouverbility

Ooh and sinking the 2 largest battleships in the world

okay, i invest 5 euro in this!

I have my own secret project here.
I think i'm one of the view who know a British sterling bomber crashed in my hometown..
I roughly know the location where it crashed, I only need to start the big search. It was shot down when it returned from a supply drop over Arnhem..

You lucky Europeans.... like I said, I have no battlefields around me, so my explorations are pretty limited. I know of a couple downed Aircraft in Maine, near where I go for the summer, but they are in the bottom of a lake..(2 P-38's collided, and a B-17 in another lake near-by). Not to mention leagal and environmental issues.

But yeah, if you need help looking for that bomber, i'll be here.  :P

lol, There wern't any missions or anything for-say, but there was an airfield where they used to launch long distance bombers and stuff from, headed to England and other places (no they usually wouldn't return to the US). they also used to do usual flights and training manuevers, if I remember the name of the Airfield, i'll post it.
