FH 0.7 and Windows 7
« on: 24-08-2009, 18:08:14 »
Anyone know how to get FH V0.7 to run on Windows 7?  I have tried all the compatibility modes and am administrator.  BF1942 runs fine, but when I switch to FH, I get through the map load screen, and then game closes back to desktop.

This is NOT FH2.

Thanks!

I believe this is a punkbuster issue and has been a problem since Vista.
I don't know if their is a viable fix for it somewhere on the webs. I had hoped that with Win7 these problems would have been gone...

yes windows 7 causes the same problems as vista, but you can run FH with vista/windows 7, unfortunately not on servers with enabled punkbuster...

Why would it be a punkbuster issue with FH and not BF1942?  I mean, it's running the BF1942 Engine, so wouldn't I have a problem with BF1942 as well?

Also, if it were a punkbuster issue, then it would say I was kicked or something.  This issue just shuts the whole game down.

Gotta be a fix somewhere!

Figured it out - got into our server once, but then it crashed the second time - gotta figure that part out.

Ran it with "Disable Themes" and "Disable Desktop Composition" both checked and in Win98/ME.

Trying other compatibility modes - will report findings

My Bad - works fine - it only crashed when I tried it in XP Compat Mode.  Switched it back to 98/ME with the "Disables" above, and everything runs for FH 0.7 on Win 7 64-Bit!!!

Played FH 0.7 and DC Final for couple hours with no problem on PB-Enabled Servers

but custom resolution doesnt work anymore when you use win 98 or 95 mode.
doesnt look very nice on a 22" display with only 1280 x 960 (or something)
1920 x 1080 is recommended that FH looks great. ^^

custom resolutions DO work in BF42/FH 0.7
you have to manually edit the correct video.con files and then set them write protected or the game will witch back to default values.

i can play fh 0.7 with 1680x1050, sure doesnt look that well specially since the wide-screen issue but still better than having black bars around the corners.

Hello,

I may have a slightly better fix than the Windows 98/ME compatibility mode and I'm looking for feedback to be sure it works for more than my computer.

All the details and downloads are posted over at the FileFront forums here:

Since I only play Battlefield with friends or at LAN parties, PunkBuster hasn't been tested with this fix.  Maybe someone can try it out and post their results?
