The Glider is shown as if its a vehicle, does this mean flyable gliders? :D And will they spawn in the air i assume?

I'll ask the obvious question:

Can we fly it??!!??!!??!!
*awaits dreamcrush*

Op. Goodwood looks sweet, too. Nice job, Knoffhoff!

In other news, yay for the Steam group giving me an up to the minute update!

 Looks good,

I like to see any map that uses the maximum area possible for it. Is it a Push style map? or is it Conquest?

The Horsa glider looks sweet.

But i dont like the screenshots of Goodwood, i hope it doesnt look like that on the final release, Goodwood is one of my favorites on FH1,  now it just seems too colorful and without that destruction war felling that was there on FH1, it just doesnt seem like a warzone at all.

Its a constructive criticism from my part. I maybe wrong.

Shell holes - check
destroyed buildings - check
military tents - check

looks pretty warlike to me.

I never liked Goodwood in 0.7... It was a horrendous map, imho. FH2's version rocks my socks.

OH
MY
GOD

These are just some of the words that came to mind when I saw the map and the screenshots.  I think this may actually be the (prononuced 'thee') best map I've seen for any game.  And a map like this almost proves the existence of fireflies!

Also, I like the glider.  Flyable?  Hopefully.

Very nice update, and I would love flyable gliders but doubt that this can be implemented. I have just one nitpick, I think the white flowers and perhaps the green of the poppies are too saturated and stick out too much of the other foliage. Everthing else is absolutly flawless.

Question on the minimap ther are 3 CP/Gray spots explain pls?? are they like regular flags just gray from the start off the round but both teams can cap them?

Ok, so my first question is thus: how big is this map compared to maps like Alam Halfa or El Alemein?  It looks big, but its hard to judge the size because there is no reference to scale it properly.

from a feeling i would say it is about the size of el alamein but could be less it is hard to judge these things.

definitely one of my favorite maps, you get awesome infantry battles in the cagny area and overall tank fights on the open fields , well camouflaged AT gun positions and some little kitty's strolling around marking their territory.

as on all maps where once team attacks and the other defends the attacking tommys need to work together big time to overcome great obstacles on this map.

Judging from the minimap the cagny area seems to be about the size of the sidi rezegh airfield.

I'm not sure of the exact size of Goodwood, but it plays alot larger than it actually is, so no need to worry. Long range tank kills will still feel just as good as they do on El Al if not better.

are there plenty of backcappings?  there are too many flags for a map without push!

btw if i suggest a push it would be like that of siege of tobruk.

1. HOLY

2. (http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/screenshotsfh2/Operation%20Goodwood/Goodwood9.jpg)

3. SHIT

I mean that screenshot alone took my breath away. And this coming from a veteran off every single FH2 update since it's announcement. I guess I never cease to be amazed!

Yes and no.

Yes, he lied and changed his story on most of his offensives from being the ones that would take Caen, to being just to hold down the germans.

And yes, he is right that his offensives did hold down the best of the german divisions, which allowed the americans to be basically unopposed by quality german units other then the Fallschirmjager.

It actually looks pretty small from a tankers point of view and the map isn't as big as I'd imagined; I'm just juding from the size of houses but I hope that I'm wrong.

Seriously WOW you guys. This is one of the most jaw-dropping updates Ive seen. Two things stand out in my mind now. The awesome city shot with that beautifully skinned roof (bottom left pic) and those two railroad crossings, which I can already see as interesting chokepoints. God am I looking forward to this release. :)

Also, the glider is awesome, and I hope to see a map to go with its silent glidering. Maybe a map named after an animal that does a fair amount of gliding itself?

Hoping the Germans on Goodwood are historically accurate  ;).

IE, there better be the famed 88 FLAK front that knocked out almost 80 british tanks that von Luck wrote about in his memoirs.  He actually had to force the Flak officer at gun point to stay and fight, and when he came back to check on them, upwards of 80 british tanks were burning in the fields, for nil losses on the part of the 88 gunners.

That sounds very interesting Von Mudra. But where would those 88's be positioned?...

Far as I know, they were basically sited over a long flowing field that one of the british tank brigades was attempting to cross.  And, well, the tank brigade didn't make it across.  Von Luck didn't go into specifics on it, sadly.

To quote the wiki article

"Spotting a Luftwaffe Flak battery of 88mm guns, Luck ordered the commander to open fire on the flank of the British tanks. The battery commander, a young captain, refused to do so, as he was under orders to engage enemy aircraft. At this refusal Luck drew his service pistol, leveled it at the man and said "Either you're a dead man or you can earn yourself a medal."[18] The battery thus engaging the enemy....  The Luftwaffe 88mm battery Luck commandeered earlier in the day accounted for about 40 British tanks alone."

That's conflicting with the book, where von Luck said it was around 80 when he inspected the slaughter himself, but that number from wiki might only be counting those that were completely destroyed, and not those that were hit and abandoned, but were salvageable.  Or, considering its wiki, it might just be dead wrong :P

i cant wait to sit in those buildings, With a PIAT or a Panzerfaust(Shreck?:v), waiting for those foolish German tanks to enter XD

Browsing a bit bout Operation goodwood, it appears a few King tiger tanks and Churchill tanks participated in the battle.WIll they be included for this map?

Well, you realize, that'll be british tanks entering...germans are defending Cagny :P

And yeah, they did, but if they'll be there or not is up to if the devs make them in time.  I think I heard somewhere though that the KT might not make it into 2.2

Well, imo, the KT is not really an IMPORTANT unit.as you said, it can always be added later(So did the Tiger tank for Mareth line, Only appeared in now 2.15)

But i believe the Churchill is a bit of an important tank, i hope it gets added with the later Patches of 2.2 soon :(

The Churchill was my favorite tank to use when playing Brits on Goodwood .7

It could take a beating from most German tanks and AT guns, and was often ignored by people trying to get the Shermans.

Wow, just wow....I´m totally speechless. Goodwood looks simply stunning and beautiful! From the minimap it looks like everyone will have fun. The treadheads have enough open space to maneuvre and the infantry guys have a big enough city to experience fierce and bloody street fighting! Also infantry has enough concealment outside the town to attack tanks from hedgerows etc.
The map really invites you to lean back, enjoy a drink and the sun :D
But yeah, there´s a war going on ^^
Ach ja, pick up G43 rifles? So these rifles aren´t spawnable, eh?
The orse glider looks great, too. And I guess we know what that means (Pegasus) ;)
Nice update and I can´t wait to see the next one (although I will be in Hungary from Monday to Sunday)!

Ye, and it wassent so tall as the sherman, i used to hide near a bunch of trees, somewhere around the eastren map.German tanks ALWAYS went trough that road to get to the Northeren towns..

Then again, it was difficult getting their before the panthers came ;)

I'd say they aren't spawnable because the Germans are defending against an army armed with bolt action rifles in this scenario.

I'm still interested in if the 88mm front will be represented.  That action was critical to the battle=/

Come on, what do you think of the devs???
Have they ever let you down?

No Panzer Lehr insignia on any tanks yet ;)

But yeah, that better be a hint in my direction, cuz that's how Imma take it :D

I want everyone on this forum to pray that glider is flyable. On Pegasus. Everyone think about that for a minute

No, because the whole concept of Pegasus - the entire existence of the scenario - relies on the fact that the british managed to land a glider just a few meters from the actual bridge... this was a 1/1000 chance, and to reproduce it in a map isn't possible, needed or necessary.. We need to be sure the allies spawn where they are supposed to, and wont fly the glider where they feel like it.. the whole concept would be destroyed... If we make a pegasus map (isn't decided yet) they will spawn in a static landed glider, mark my words.

Some other scenario can have flying gliders though, for sure!  :)

Here are some answers to your questions.
The map will have sort of a semi push. It will prevent backcapping but still give you the opportunity to develop many different tactics for your attack.
The three flags marked CP are neutral controlppoints at the start of the round.
The size of the map actually is only one quater of El Alamein. But most the terrain is used and the map therefor feels quite big. Distances between cp's are also walkable on foot, just like on the old map.
The Luftwaffe 88's will be in the churchyard if germans manage to set up their def3nces in Cagny in time.
The G43 is only available as pickup kit because it wasn't used in big numbers.

this was my favourtie fh 1 map good layout i mean it showed the power and range of the axis tanks i always seemed to get hit before i even saw the enemy, i always used the cromwell or churchill lower profile, never ever the sherman as they were always hit first, cromwells were the secret weapon as they were low and could hide and had the same gun as the sherman 75mm , the velosity was slightly better or equal and was the fastest UK tank of the war with a top speed ungoverned of 40 mph, outflank to win.

So on which map are we going to find that Glider gentleman?  :D
Well, I'd imagine that the obvious answer would be one named after a mythical flying horse.

They used other kind of gliders for the Pegasus bridge operation right?

@Mudra: I was more talking about the units that took part. :P

my guess is

Le Prieure, or Fremental  is a prerequisite to Cagny, this way would prevent early jeep rushs(which some players just spawned...) taking those flags.. but i am not sure if this "OR" push is possible.

for the rear flags i guess need to take Fremental to access grentheville, and both of the Cagny flags to access to Le Poirer, or may need them both.

another guess might be Fremental is not associated with any push systems, that way the fight would be centred around Cagny though.  (it's like Sidi rezegh, who cares about "the blockhouse" flag?)
