General Discussion / Re: FH2 Thursday Reloaded!
« on: 02-09-2020, 23:09:03 »
The WaW server is still running; currently, FH2 vanilla maps.  We have several admins, so if you want a map change, just ask if an admin is on to do it for you.  Some admins I've seen on recently are Dago Red, Professor Anthrax, and John Deere.

For maps that are not in the rotation of the 72 maps of varying sizes, then you can post at https://www.bfewaw.com/forum.php or let an admin know while in-game.

The server is a very reliable and dedicated (not shared) server that is located in Northeastern America but with excellent connection to Europe. It is named WaW NA #1 FH2.57 (IP 209.222.20.114:16567) and listed on the FH2 Gameserver page at http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/fh2_gameserver.php?

Yes, the server was updated before the client release.  The rotation was set only on those new maps and the two other maps that were updated in the 2.53 release.

This still a thing?

It definitely could be.  For the last month I mostly monitor from the outside by way of an admin client.  In case a PubAdmin doesn't appear in-game, I hang around from 15 minutes before to 15 minutes after start time to see if people need map changes.  I haven't seen many show up during the Thursday game time, (which is in about 30 minutes).

Of the relatively few FH2 players these days, they seem to be mostly located in Europe.  South America has some numbers on the server in Argentina.  While South America is a little worse ping for most of North America, it's about the same time zone so maybe there will be more players there in the evening.

I am too poor, but I could play and would like to play.  But the ping to the Euro servers are killer for me.  I'm enough of a bullet magnet; I don't need some guy with a 150 msec ping advantage to make it worse.  LOL   We've recently had players from Germany and Argentina in the mid-90's ping to the WaW server.  It would be nice to have another WaW campaign, but I'm too damn old to want to do the work.  No young whipper snappers to do it, either.  :'(

Hey Gomer.  Hope your report can help them debug the issue.  In the meantime, you could get the full download.  The CMP-Gaming.com site has a full download.  For the American mirror, you can get it at the WaW site; 2nd post of this thread: http://bfewaw.com/showthread.php?t=292794

The recurring "Pubbie Thursday" continues:

When: Thursday. Starting at 9pm EDT / 6pm PDT / (1am Friday UTC)
Where: World At War's WaW #1 Server at IP 209.222.20.114 (no password)
Map Pack: Community Map Pack V2
VOIP: Use in-game or WaW's Teamspeak 3 server at ts.bfewaw.com, (no password)

For file downloads and other details visit http://bfewaw.com/showthread.php?t=292794

As can be seen by the start time, this is focused on people in the Americas more than Europe.  Of course all are welcome.  Don't fear the ping; it is better than what can be seen of Americans playing on the main European servers.

I saw you disconnect last week, too, Nerdsturm.  That error can happen when files on the game server do not match those on the player's client.  Also, I think I've seen this happen when the CMP creates an object with the same name as in the vanilla FH2 game.

I can play on both WaW and 762.  I get no NetworkManager crashes.  I know others have worked on both servers, too.  It seems strange yours works on 762 but not WaW.  Something funky, I guess.

Yes, the best thing is probably re-install.  A full game re-install can be a pain in the butt, so first you should try just a CMP re-install.  That is, get the CMP full download archive and extract it over your installation.  If that doesn't work then remove all CMP folders and then extract the CMP full download archive.  For details of the procedure and the archive, please go here:

You can get a list of commands by typing into an All-chat message; type: !help

Not sure about console, but I do go there to get map numbers if I forget them.  To get to console, the default key is the tilde key ~ and you type maplist.list
You will have to use page up to see all the list since the list will scroll off the console window.

Best method to change map is to first set it with the command !setnext and it's argument is the mapnumber.  So first map in rotation is !setnext 0
Then next command is to run it: !runnext

Psuedo official start time is Thursday 6pm Pacific (that's 9pm US Eastern time).

Nah.  Who needs the admin logins.  You can do the in-game commands; don't need to use that bf2 client.

Hope to see you guys there.

Anthrax, of course a thing.  There was a broadcast e-mail to the WaW list for the CMP Event.  Maybe our e-mail list has wrong address for you.  We had OK turnout.  The event was our normal time which is aimed at American timezones (NA and SA) so that limits numbers.  We played 16-size maps due to numbers never getting over that number for any one round.  People enjoyed the maps.

I receive complaints every once in a while (including at the CMP Event) about the updater for the CMP.  One issue I've heard a few times is about the seeding.  People find it not seeded or find it very slow due to low numbers of seeders.  I have not investigated their issue.  We offer a full download so I send them to it.

The start time is still each Thursday at 6PM US Pacific (9PM Eastern).

The server is running all the time, but to have any numbers it's best for people to attend the Thursday thing.  I missed last week, but will make it tonight.

WaW #1 is just CMP maps, now.  For pubbie Thursday (starting in about 1 hour) or any other day.

Ahhh. Some One could say the same about some old stock maps. But why? I dont get the point

CMP has been running just fine for some time. Most players have the map pack and its very refreshing to play a bigger palette of maps with +80 players.

I don't think all the maps are fully complete in terms of suitability for Pubbie play.  Ah, the chaotic, non-strategic play of the mob.  It takes skill to get the design right when converting a tournament map (as many were originally) to a map for Pubbie play.  I like the variety of the maps.  The "sameness" could be said of so many vanilla maps we have played hundreds of times.  I don't see the size of the download as being too bad for people these days, either.  Heck, I stopped using my 56K dial-up months ago.

The only maps I sometimes dont feel like playing are the ported stock 1942 maps. They are well made, but its like watching the first starwars again and agian. I rather Load up bf1942 and play Wake etc.. and its fun :-)  Why were these copy maps ported into fh2 cmp ?

A new theater of operations has been made available to the community.  Porting to the old BF1942 / FH1 maps was a means to the end.  Their conversion was easiest to get to the Pacific theater fast.  Mappers have access to the new Pacific theater mod to create new scenarios, although there is still work on more equipment for the mod.  I think that was the greatest contribution to the community for years.

Typically, start is in about 30 minutes, (6pm PDT, 9pm Eastern US).

I probably can't make it tonight, but you guys might want to download the CMP if you don't already have it.  Those maps are fairly good and something more than the same old vanilla maps that so many of us have played over and over and over ... is a plus.  We have all sizes on the server.  A pubadmin can change maps.

But as usually, maybe best to meet up on WaW #1 (209.222.20.114) with the vanilla maps and then determine who wants to go over to WaW #3 (209.222.20.116).  Mixing maps is not so good for a couple of reasons: 1) inter-operability issues; 2) if you don't have the CMP, you get booted on a map change to them.

Regarding the CMP, use the Community Updater if it works for you.  Or, go here.
