General Discussion / Re: Does anyone play FH2 anymore?
« on: 27-06-2013, 19:06:29 »
The thing is, it's unfair to pounce on new players, no matter what their first threads' topic and tone are.

Forgotten Hope has the distinct honor of being a First Person Shooter, which means it is lumped in with a community that is 98% smacktards, loudmouthed kids, and short-tempered powergamers. In most of the FPS world, it is an expected norm to complain about game imbalance rather than admit player or teamwork imbalance. This goes hand in hand with mirrored maps and equipment being popular. There's no excuse when there's literally no difference except color.

So, a new player, who is often a veteran at FPS', jumps into our little virtual world, looks around at the asymmetric maps, differing loads, and general historic chaos, then draws conclusions based on the outcomes they see. In this case, it was German players kicking their ass and winning map after map.

It follows that this player finds the center of the game community's discourse, and brings up what they observed. Stickies are boilerplate, search is broken zombie thread fuel-it makes more sense to post a new topic to ensure an answer.

And the answer shouldn't be ridicule or flame.

It should be a calm reassurance of the overall balances based on the community's experience.

FH2 vets should ask what sort of imbalances were perceived and point towards threads or history sites that explain the game logic.

If the new player wont explain with more than broad overused echos, tell them they wont get help without discussion, and ignore them until they learn how to post constructively.

We should be sharing the joy of a challenging historic game and letting players acclimate at their own pace rather than expecting perfect manners from the first few days.

SMG bullets are subsonic so they dont really have the same sonic boom crack as they pass by, and thus don't suppress like rifle bullets and MGs do.

Opera runs fast, has a built in adblocker, and has superior tab management (sheer number of open tabs and also tab stacking).

Plus you get the hipster cred. >_>

If I wasn't out searching for a room I'd hop on the server for sure. Is there a big performance difference between 32 and 64 bit in this case?

I have no idea what aspect ratio means :o

Immersive HUD ? What is that ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_display_standard

Aspect ration is the rectangularness of your screen. It is likely 16:9.

One of the biggest problems with doing different sections for different languages is that it will split the community, as was said already. It's not about how big a percentage Russian speakers are, it's about the main forum of the FH community using the most widely spoken language it can, to help hold the players together.

The FH community welcomes anyone who wants to be a part, but it will not start splitting itself along language lines.

You could do this...

Or you could play 2, maybe 3 games of SoaSE:Rebellion.

The solar distribution based on demand makes sense. I had wondered if it had to do with population density and the proportional amount of surface area between rural and urban areas; thanks for clearing that up.

I remember something about hotels using a similar thermal difference to help with air conditioning. It sounds like a great idea, but I wonder if it can scale cheap enough to be a player at this time. There still has to be an economic incentive to build a power generating mechanism, and a lot of cool ideas are still far to expensive, at least for heavy commercial and industrial applications.

Which is why I support building nukes. It seriously is the cleanest, most powerful alternative energy source we have at the moment. The main drawbacks are safety and waste. Safety is already sky high with these way over-engineered plants, and extreme incidents like Fukushima simply strengthens other plants. As for waste being "a problem for millenia of future generations;" if in the next few hundred years we dont develop the heavy lift capacity to simply chuck the waste into the sun, we've done something wrong.

I'm pretty sure the Robb scenes are so the unbooked viewers remember who he is, what hes doing, and understand his innocent romance that develops and causes him to choose love over duty and precipitate other events.

Would I have put those scenes in? No I'd have given the time to Tyrion's chain or something. But I understand it's cheaper and lends more clarity to show more Robb.

As for Dany, I'm a little surprised at the direction they went with her character too. I really liked reading her chapters in the books, especially when certain well-trained soldiers come into play. It seems like it wouldnt be hard to make her act like she did in the books, so HBO must have some reason, maybe to show her inner turmoil?
