The Great Football thread
« on: 17-08-2010, 11:08:45 »
After the World Cup we need this to follow some real football!

The Premier League is up and running since Tottenham and Manchester City ended with 0 - 0 after an amazing performance by City goalkeeper Joe Hart. Will it be another PL season where the big teams fight for silverware undisturbed or will we see some new uprising teams join in as well?

La Liga is starting at the end of this month with Mourinho behind the wheel of Real Madrid and as always, Pep Guardiola leading Barcelona. Anything but an epic clash of the titans will be disappointing.

Serie A will start the same weekend with 17 teams from the previous A season and 3 new teams from the Serie B, Roma, Sampdoria and Udinese.

So, what's your team and your feelings for this upcoming season?

I'm rooting as usual for the Spurs in the PL, we could have had a better start but Hart was mad that Saturday afternoon. Hopefully we'll be in the top fighting for the big win but it'll be hard. Chelsea is too good ATM.

When Johny goes Marching down the wing
O'Shea, O'Shea!

When Johnny goes marching down the wing,
The Stretford End will stand and sing,
We all know that Johnny's gonna score!

So, yeah.. Manchester United.

Some Champions League qualifications and playoffs tonight, almost forgot

First up, viking battle!

Rosenborg BK - FC Köpenhamn (Playoff)

And the qualifications

FC Zenit St Petersburg - Auxerre
Bsc Young Boys Bern - Tottenham Hotspur

Gonna try to catch some of the Hotspur action but might check most of the Nordic playoff, lots of Swedish players in both teams and two good teams as well

Ajax tonight, they better kick olymp's asses twice so i can enjoy this season  ;D. Netherlands brought FC Twente because, sadly, they won the title  ::).
Never been a real football fan although im Ajax supporter since i can remember.

*Champions league

Dutch league is Eredivisie.
My favorite outcome would be :
1. Ajax
2. Feyenoord
3. Either PSV or VVV

singing loud and strong
proving all day long
I'm takin' my freedom
puttin' it in my stroll
I'll be hop-steppin' y'all
lettin' the joy unfold

Out of interest, what made you decide to support Spurs?

Spurs have been the team of my family since my grandfather worked in England during his early 20's

It has been some long years but this last season and a ticket to CL really shows something new and interesting is happening

All 'round the Fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play play)
We had Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
Of the glory round the Fields of Anfield Road

So, yeah.. Liverpool FC.

PS:LFC>Man Utd

Also, my team in israel, Hapoel Tel-Aviv, is facing Red Bull Zalzburg tomorrow in the CL qualifications, hope we do well.

last year we beat Rapid Vienna 1-5 and 3-0 in the European League group stage, we also beat Hamburg and Celtic once each, and finished the top of our group...ended up losing to Rubin Kazan in the 1\16 final.

I felt so bad for Liverpool, they did a great game with most of the time with one man less then the other team and lost 3 points due to a simple mistake

Thank god for a football thread! +3 iRep for you.

So darn angry that I missed the Spurs-City game. Was working at the time, recording the game at home, trying to avoid hearing about the result, until a colleague told me by mistake.

I'm cheering for spurs in PL, spurs and liverpool.

however, I am black at heart.

Tomorrow, my team AIK faces Levski Sofia in the first qualification round of the Euro League.

We got the assistant manager to Rafa Benitez when he won the CL with Liverpool, Alex Miller, as a coach. Hopefully his experience can lead us to the euro league, giving us some WELL needed millions (really unlikely though, we don't stand a chance).

But yeah, sure hope Tottenham will continue as good as they started against City.

I HATE mancherster City, more than I hate chelsea. They buy like 5 superstars everye season and think that's the key to success. Sure hope they won't place in the top 7 this season either.

Just watching the Spurs - Young Boys game, Rawhide you must be fuming!

3-0 down within 30 mins to a team Spurs were meant to destroy. I can't believe what I am seeing. Unbelievable stuff  :o
