General Discussion / [762] root server maintenance on Sunday
« on: 01-09-2018, 12:09:03 »
Dear Players,

due to necessary maintenance, the [762] root server will be down on Sunday around 16:00 hrs Berlin/Paris time. It has been running for 8 years now and some of the hardware needs to be replaced (e.g. hard disks).

Thank you for your patience, we'll post when we are back online.

For the [762] admin team,

General Discussion / Rule Change at [762]
« on: 01-04-2018, 00:04:38 »
Dear PLAYERS of Forgotten Hope,
over the last years, we have had complaints that:

[762] is killing FH2
[762] is ruining the community
[762] has stupid rules
[762] has stupid admins
[762] is no fun
[762] [... fill in endless other random complaints here]

To give you a taste of what people are complaining about and to show what work our admins are doing in the background every evening - in short, to give everyone a taste of "how cool it would be if only..."

Well, let's just say, "enjoy the game"!

3
Dear Players,

to begin the public bug test of the new Community Map Pack,
we will start with the batch of Pacific Maps on Server [762]#3
tonight at 18.00 UTC (20.00 Berlin/Paris).

Click the picture to download!

We'll do a few test rounds, you will have a chance to look at
re-worked maps like Battle Isle 1944 (heavily polished by Papillon)
and new ones like Tarawa and Tulagi (prepared by pr0z4c).
Others have been prepared by GeoPat, especially the small layers.

Lots of new equipment was ported into the CMP by the team and stuff fixed
by Harmonikater such as the improved Arisaka, Katana and Japanese LMG.

We will continue during the week with more themed test evenings
(Italy, France, North Africa). I will announce that here.
FREMIDENIS has joined our force as mapper and given us the new map
"Bloody Marsh", which will be fun to play.

Now we need YOUR help again: please report your findings here:
http://www.762-ranking.de/site/viewforum.php?f=26
As usual, each map has its own thread for reporting bugs.

The quality of the CMP will depend on the amount of support that we
can get from you as community. We are only a small mapping team,
so especially bug testing is something you can really help us with.

After the public beta testing phase, we will release the CMP and run it on
[762]#1 like the last CMP, with a mix of all FH2 vanilla maps and all CMP maps
1x in the rotation, merged together. So your work will flow directly into your
gaming fun.
We can't think of a better way to include you players in the
mapping process. It will be "your" CMP, too.

All CMP maps do have 16p, 32p and 64p layers (=map sizes) and those will be
selected automatically according to player numbers at the end of the round before.

Feel free to ask questions HERE, take a look! :)

Dear Players,

What is this about?
After watching the server for 2 years now, we have decided to remove the
"Only attack flags you can capture! (green circle) - no ABCs." rule and replace it with
"ABC lines & main bases: do not fire into / out of there!"

What was the initial idea behind the rule?
We introduced the protection of crossed flags about 2 years ago, after the FH2 team had introduced
push code on several more of their new maps.

In newer games, there is a penalty built in when you fire into zones that you are not supposed to (kick, death, etc.). FH2 has not had this penalty and, as the developers have let us know, it is technically
not feasible to include it. Therefor it is not planned to do so.

So with the old rule, we tried to guide the players along the shifting front lines.

What did we achieve?
The players were guided along the switching flags and did not have to worry about someone
attacking their rear areas. Nor did they have to worry about being shot on their way from
the main base to the front line. So gameplay became more relaxed for some.

What were the problems that the rule caused?
Our players became complacent. They started complaining whenever they only FELT that someone
fired into a forbidden area. Even when it was not the case. Other players simply ignored the rule
or tried to push it whenever they felt no admin was watching.

It causes arguments and an overall foul mood because players think they are entitled to us admins
taking care of them 24/7 like they were childs. We would need 64 admins to follow every single player in
death cam to make sure that he is not firing into an uncap zone.

It is an inhumane task and it wears down our admins, and to be frank, us 2 head admins as well.
We cannot possibly enforce this rule and be fair to all parties. Do you remember this
explanation in the news? It was pinnned there for years now, easy to understand and still is ignored so often.

70% of the work that Sandre and I are doing is looking after arguments about admins kicking
or not kicking for violations of the crossed flag rule. We have to explain to players, calm down
admins, mediate flame wars. Admins get worn down, resulting in:

Annoyed behaviour towards players, even if they are behaving o.k. (we can empathise).
Overlooking of really important things: Teamkills, Racism, Tk for assets, flaming.

This is the point where we as Head Admins, who are responsible for rules being enforced on [762],
have to intervene.

Just an outlook on what lies ahead:
Many CMP maps have crossed flags that do not generate a clear front line so they
cause arguments. The FH2.50 maps will have similar flag setups. It will only get worse.
Would you like an example? Check how close these flags are together.

(material taken from the public live stream, we're not leaking new things).

This is why we will remove this rule, effective tomorrow.

I will take your concerns, complaints, comments here. But at this moment we are resolved
to remove that rule which is causing more trouble, anger and worry than it is helping.
As a player, you may not see it, but from the stand point of the [762] admin team,
(red and yellow tags), it has become untolerable and we watched it for too long.

We will again focus on what is important. No racism, no Nazi ideology, no teamkills,
no excessive flaming. Those are the basics that we need to enforce on [762] to make the
server an enjoyable place.

FH2 is a war game after all. You players have to figure out for yourselves where to go,
when to sneak in and pre-cap, where to go to camp or "interdict" with tanks/squads, where
to put AT/AP mines to cut off reinforcements. We give you back your flexibility and remove
an excessive work load from us admins.

For the [762] admin team,
x4fun I<ODIUM>I.

[762]FH2 CMP http://ow.ly/U5Uta
server is running with the latest CMP.

All you have to do whenever you crash on loading a map
(meaning you don't have the latest update) is:

The updater will do the rest for you.

(Below you can see the old, first post.)

Part A:

Dear Players, Admins and Visitors,

the Forgotten Honor Campaign 17 "Darkest Hour"
concluded with a decisive victory of the

2. Panzerdivision |2PzD|

over the

31st Canadian Brigade Group [31BG].

In 14 battles and a few more weeks of planning, preparing, organizing and finally fighting over the custom
made FHT maps, the tide went back and forth. The Canadians, after a defeat in the first battle, beat the
Axis and stayed in the lead. Tough battles ensued, like the combined marine and airborne Allied invasion
on Gela, where the Axis only with highest efforts managed to beat the Canadians back. (Below)

The Allied airborne invasion during the battle for St.Marie Du Mont (Below) failed. After Canada won a slim
victory in the battle to control Montebourg Station, their succeeding defeat in the forests around
Mont Castre hit them heavily and burning Sherman wreckages littered the woods. In a defensive battle
around Hill262, the Axis lost while managing to exert a high price in blood on the Canadians. But the
2.PzD's lead in the campaign score was secured - for a while.

That is until their crushing defeat in the very buggy landscape around the Dutch Border, which saw players
of both teams "deported" from the battleground time and again. Here, the Canadians managed to almost
close the gap unto 9 score points. But in a tremendous effort of preparation, late night discussions and
trainings all through the last 2 weeks of the campaign, the Axis team rallied around their HQ Command.
They fought an attritional battle for the city of Metz and broke the Canadian Army's will to fight. (Below)

In the final battle for Operation Nordwind, the heroic Canadians fought bravely, but their weakened forces
were unable to stem the wave of the rolling Axis 2.PzD, who delivered a flexible offensive and a crushing
defeat to the Allies, winning the campaign.

We thank every soldier, officer, the headquarters and especially the administration team of the FHT
campaign around Papillon, Viktor2a5 and Quicksilver for their enduring organization over rough weeks
that cost every participant a lot of strength, nerves and fighting spirit. The hot weather may have
contributed. We won't forget these great months! The next FH2 campaign will start later this year.

Part B:
The enlistments for the Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons (FHSW mod for BF1942) campaign have opened
and the Axis and Allied teams are calling YOU to arms! Battles will commence on Fridays 18.00 UTC and the first scrims are beginning this week. Sign in here if you are interested:

Part C:
The Community Mappack "CMPv2.0" is in the works and we need your
help to find bugs! Download the maps here:

After long, tough battles fought in winterly Belgium, Luxemburg and France,
the Forgotten Honor campaign "Wacht am Rhein" has ended.

Many hours of mapping, testing, feedback and correction have gone into the creation of these custom maps. That is why [762] and [F|H] have sat together, decided to take a pick and make the best of them public.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oneHSnZZzwc&feature=em-share_video_user

From the 31st of December, Server [762]RANKED #4 FH2 v2.45 [64+]
will include the following maps into its daily rotation:

FHT Operation Nordwind
FHT Herrlisheim Outskirts
FHT Advance on Foy
FHT Elsenborn Ridge

You can download an installer .exe here:
Wacht am Rhein map pack

Just run it and the maps will be installed for you.

Should the installer not work for you (Vista users):
1. Download this file and unpack it:  Wacht am Rhein map pack for manual installation
2. You will receive a folder named "fh2".
Open your game folder ( e. g. C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods).
3. You should see 2 folders ("bf2" and "fh2").
Copy the "fh2" folder that you have just unpacked into the \mods folder.
4. If you are being asked to include or overwrite, choose "yes, to all".
5. For former [F|H] campaign players: go into your "...\mods\fh2" folder. Delete the "fht" subfolder.

It is a dark night, on the evening of June 5th, 1944.
All is quiet in northern France.

Only the distant grumble of radial engines is heralding the upcoming events...

C-47 transport planes slowly close in to drop the paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division
into the vicinity of St. Mere Eglise. Facing the same problems as their comrades of the 101st Airborne Division, many misdrop because of flak fire, panicking pilots giving the green light too early or too late
or just as a result of bad navigation.

Some unlucky ones are caught up in trees, on the church merlons or land on rooftops.
The alerted German troops rush out of their quarters to defend the town and soon a ferocious fight develops.

Gaming / Point Of Existence 2 Event - October 20th or 27th!
« on: 08-10-2012, 12:10:08 »
Dear FH2 players,

after the successful Operation Peacekeeper Event with clan DKS the 762 Server Admin Team would like to start another event in the forseeable future.
This time together with Team Cont@ct, clan DKS and clan =DGC=.

The Modification is "Point Of Existence 2". Meaning: Again Bundeswehr, this time versus Ukraine, more planes, more maps and: MORE TANKS!

I'd like to suggest Saturday the 20th or 27th of October, 19.00 Berlin/Paris time! We will provide a Server.
The plan is for fixed squads, use of teamspeak and maybe a training war, if necessary/called for.

The thread can be followed and enlistments be made there:
http://www.762-ranking.de/forum/showthread.php?540-Point-of-Existence-Event-PLEASE-SUGGEST-A-DATE!

Please let me know what you think!

Kind Regards,

x4fun I<ODIUM>I

P.S.: Moderators, since this is not FH2 related, if you feel this is spam, let me know and delete it, if necessary.
Thanks!

15
Dear Developers, Admins, Players,

please note that the 762 server rule about crossed out flags from now on reads:

Only attack flags you can capture! (green circle) - no ABCs.

The rule is displayed on:

(News, FH2 General Discussion Forum, yellow rule banner in all forum pages, ranking display webpage)
- The server loading screens of 762#1 - 762# 3.

Please go easy on the ingame admin team, although they have been notified, it may take some time until each of the 36 has realized it. Get more information on the rule change + leave your feedback in this thread:

http://www.762-ranking.de/forum/showthread.php?509-New-WORDING-of-the-rules-feedback-thread

For further information on the whereabouts of that decision, please check the attached screenshot. This was the result of the internal poll among our ingame admins (users with yellow name tag in
www.762-ranking.de forums), it ran 1 week and was representative (26 out of 37 took part):

Kind Regards,
x4fun I<ODIUM>I
