Title: Verdun - WW1 FPS Game
Post by: Roughbeak on 09-09-2013, 18:09:03
I just found this fantastically fun game called "Verdun", it is set in World War I time.
It might not have the best realism factors, but the times I have played it, it's so addicting! :)
I think it is standalone and free to play multiplayer game.

Currently it is in open beta ready for download.

I don't believe so, but it does have some bugs as it is a beta.. ;)

It's quite popular too, so don't worry about if there is no people playing it. :)

So they're still alive?
I think it's 3 years ago now, I checked their newsupdates and website once a week, at least. They promised "next week we will announce instructions as to how you can play the open beta". That newsupdate never came, and their website went completely silent for over a year.

Meh, I lost interest.

I got it on Steam sale when it was $7, and I am not disappointed. This game gets better with every update.

What i am really waiting for, will be if the ottoman empire, Austrian-hungarian & Belgian army gets added. If these are announched or even rumoured to be added, i'm getting this game

What about the french army in this game? Do they get the berthier rifle/carbine aswel?

^this

Then what are we waiting for? Its an awesome game and they need the money to make it better, no?  I think these are two good reasons to buy it.

im thinking of buying this game, but on the steam community there are tons of people complaining of folks from out of region with high ping (mostly aussies and, guess what, brazilians).... Obviously since im brazilian i'll get 200 ping or so. So whats the deal that makes people bash these pings? I have played dozens of games with such a ping and i never got bashed, the only one to complain was me that i had and have to lead my targers (such as in FH2). When 1 guy lags with 200 (not bad ping really) the whole server lags? How dumb is that.

Or the only reason these guys are complaining is that the pingers play bad because of it? IDK how much per team you can have so i guess you are dependent on everyone playing well....

Don't forget italians and russians! (and bulgarians and americans, why not)

I had a glance at this game on Stream once and got interested.Today I was just thinking about WWI games and found this thread!
If they add these armies or early war (1914-1915) I definitely will look for these guys address and will pay a visit for them to shake their hands for at least an hour.
Unfortunately,I'm out of funds to support the war effort.

It really gives you that Trench Warfare feeling. ^^
And it is being updated regularly, so check it out.

Post by: DLFReporter on 08-10-2014, 08:10:37
F2P? I haven't seen anything in the game that would hint at a F2P based model for it.
It was in an open beta iirc. I do hope, that they stay away from that plague, that is F2P.

OK, so if I want this game, I better buy it fast or wait for the release?

The last game I bought was BF2, so I'm not really experienced in buying games the modern way (I mean, other than going to a shop and taking it off the shelf - yeah, I'm old).

I guess I confused open beta with F2P until released. :P

I have no idea unfortunately. I bought it, because atm I have more money than free time and I somehow try to compensate that loss by increasing my pile of shame ... sighs...

Anyhow, it is still quite cheap and you can have fun with it, so why not go over to steam and grab it. :)

got it on steam and indeed its great! But hopefully it will get optimized a little more in next patches.

OK, I will give it a try, but first I have to make a Steam account and everything, and since RL stuff has got priority overhere right now, it will take a while.

Are there dedicated servers, how many people can play?

Also what the hell, are those minimum specs right? Geforce GTX 960M that only came out a few months ago.
Title: Re: Verdun - WW1 FPS Game
Post by: Hauggy on 01-08-2015, 06:08:39
For now 32 players per server the maps are designed for this format and no dedicated servers.
No idea about the specs but I can tell you I run it with best graphics without using this card.
There's really no reason to hesitate it's fun and cheap.

Post by: Slayer on 02-08-2015, 00:08:49
Had my first rounds today and I totally love it!

Hard gameplay, like FH2, with 1s1k by rifles. Very unforgiving: pop your head out of the trench, BAM, dead. The minimap is a bit hard to read for me, so that will take a little getting used to. Some controls were a bit unlogical for me, like the fact that grenades aren't actually in your inventory, you just have to press G.

The landscapes look great, the atmosphere is really spot on in the trench maps (played 3 ddifferent maps, of which one wasn't a real trench map and the other two were). Gonna read up more on the game, because I don't get how to change weapns, or how to get more weapon options.

Next to FH2 and CoH this is my third wargame which I really like to play! Recommended, and if you buy it today, it will only cost you 10 Euros!

OK, so I'm getting a bit the hang of this now, and squadplay is really important. I have played in a few squads which were levelled up and that is really cool.

Are you guys up for making a squad with FH2 guys? Roughbeak, TheTA, DLFReporter, Hauggy, Turkish, CPS, Wulfburk, anyone else?

OK, let's start making each other friends in Verdun, so we can find each other more easily. My nick is Slayer1976.

OK, friend request sent in Steam to EU, CPS, DLFReporter, Roughbeak and Wulfburk. Couldn't find you, Turkish, or actually, I could find over 12,000 people with Turkish as searchterm ;) Same for TheTA, btw. Hauggy didn't turn up in search.

OK, the one with the green bag? Sent request. I first sent the request to CPS with Pajama as middle name and the avatar which you have here, too.

OK, about the squadplay: today EU and I fought a bit together, but we thought it'd be better if we were on TS and all. So we are gonna try and meet tomorrow (Friday) evening at 21:00 hours CET. Get on TS at 213.239.219.165:4128 and join channel "we speak English".

OK, played a bit together with Turkish. Making each other friends in Verdun (so we can find each other easily later) requires us to be together ingame. Of course, making a squad also requires that :)

So I suggest that we post evenings on which we could play together, and then pick a date and meet in TS. I'll start:

Monday from 21h CET
Wednesday from 21h CET
Friday from 21h CET
Sunday from 22h CET

I could play for ~2 hours each evening, longer on Fridays.

The squad is getting along nicely, I had some nice rounds with Hauggy, EU and Wulfburk. The fights can be hard and unforgiving, when artillery is doing a barrage on your ass the sweat comes off your back, when the whistle sounds for the attack the adrenaline runs through your veins.

Here are some screenshots:

And here some recent results of our squad "FH2 in WW1", we are level 25 now

If you think "this game looks cool", then just go for it! It is a fantastic game and with the recent update squad levelling is going to be a bit faster, so we can enjoy our fancy helmets and types of gas and artillery sooner. And another update is due soon, with addition of a new map and a new gamemode.

If you feel like joining up, be welcome!

I saw airplanes. Are they computer or in some stage of game,in future, you will be able to drive them? Maps are pretty big for it.
Title: Re: Verdun - WW1 FPS Game
Post by: Wulfburk on 26-08-2015, 16:08:30
You cant use them. And i dont think there is any plan for them to be player used, same with tanks. Maps arent that big though, any FH2 map is probably 10 times bigger. But its cool though, and the map size fits well with the 32 players.

Planes can be called for recon and airstrikes if your squad has this possibility and I think you need to be at a certain level of squad xp and be the squad leader.

I have been playing this alot lately. The joy of shooting with bolt action rifles is just so much fun.

There are so many, but i still miss a few favorites, like the Steyr mannlicher.

Yesterday i was able to get 20 kills with the gewehr 98, then 15 kills next round with the berthier and another whopping 25 with the m1917 enfield. I havent played FPS in ages but it sure is amazing to get this level of succes!
