Actually, it's JoyToKey. I tested it out last summer and it stuck. Never used it before, but I guess I got old & lazy. It's nice for searching, but unlike people are suggesting on that thread, it's not good in dogfight. Even though it is quick, plane is still out of control when you use it. I use other means to know where my opponent is.

Discussed in length here: http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=321.0

About setting that up: setup your mouselook button in FH2 Aircraft controls to mouse button 0. Configure your joystick's POV hat in JoyToKey to handle mouse movement and add a 'click left mouse button' on each direction you have. And that's it. I also suggest adding the 'Cockpit' and 'Chase Rear' views in Aircraft controls to your POV hat.

Edit: I think we better end this off-topic about flying and get back to videos!

Heh, I'm sorry Kelmola :)

Yes, I fly with a joystick, Logitech G940 at the moment, which is a tad bit much for simple BF2... but it's very accurate. The rudder and throttle are on WASD, so sometimes flying gets a bit wobbly when trying to nail that crosshair on a target.

Throttle is always full. Speed is everything and if a strafe fails or something unexpected happens, I want power to help me handle it. It gives me less time to strafe, but also helps me to survive and escape angry AA. Sometimes on Alamein, flying over Miteriya is interesting when the entire hill seems to light up and every gun is shooting at me. I just let them cool off by switching to Kidney Ridge ;)

I don't much follow the kill messages when I fly. Hit markers on crosshair are well enough. I do check the kill after dogfighting someone, it's like collecting mental dog tags or something ;D

Sometimes I'm surprised of the amount of kills from flying. Today I hit over 50 kills on Crete when trying to do my best for the team in a 109 and all I thought was "why the hell didn't I fraps this round!?!" I think it could have been excellent material for new pilots on removing AA, hunting Vickers and strafing infantry when flying few meters above ground. I actually clipped someone with my wing today and THAT did make me feel all warm and fuzzy ;D He even saw it coming! Like a deer in headlights...

Thank You very much for the comments! :)

Hey again. This one is a much, much longer than the last one. It's an old recording from September 2010, with me flying the Me 109 in El Alamein. Lot's of death involved, viewer discretion is advised.

Total playtime is around 21 minutes, which has been compressed to little under 13 minutes. I think I should learn how to cut videos... I just like the continuation of the playing showing on video. I watch that and I keep pressing Caps Lock to check my score, then cursing that it doesn't work. After a second that light bulb flickers to life... 'Oh, right..' :p

Recorded on HSLAN, with some weekend players around ;)

P.S. My self criticism is enormous and I still think that after 8hrs of editing everything it looks bad, has text on screen that offends someone, text in wrong place, too long, in-game chat that should be removed (how?!) etc etc... but what the hell, here's the fourth and final version!

Panther. I just get this warm and fuzzy feeling everytime I fire that gun... and it's a hell of a AA as well!

I didn't notice anyone else using the No1 or 1928... Maybe I was the only one using SL kit :p

Good to know that it isn't client side problem!

Hey!

Frapsed this a few nights ago, 28.12.2010 around 18:00 EET on HSLAN, if someone wants to see the battle recording.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqzFMx2KL_0

I was SL on Ramelle for a time, using Garand kit and then changed to Thompson. To my surprise, it was invisible 1928 Thompson and the M1 Carbine was actually No1 Mk III! On next map, Falaise Pocket, it was invisible 1928 Thompson and the correct rifle, No4.

Never seen anything like this before. I'd say it has something to do with my Christmas shopping spree at Steam and the gazillion times it's installed DirectX when firing up a game. Or maybe the BF:BC2 I installed.

Any ideas?

I got loads of frapsed material, I'm now just starting to see if I can produce something out of them. I've been thinking of fixing up some tutorial videos of flying, tanking and inf. Advanced stuff, not like "hit X for sights."

Here's a shameless frag video, showing the thing that keeps me alive on battlefield: constant awareness of things happening around me. It ultimately will fail when facing people who have knowledge that I am still there, as seen in the end :)

Was fun. Lots of things to kill. Weird chat in Crete, must be because of internet. I'll be sure to join again! :)

by the way, will the wespe be 1 manned or 2 manned?

I really hope 1 manned. Remember how nice it was back in '42 when someone decided to take that Wespe you had in perfect shooting position to the planes/other tanks/other side of the map? I like to think average FH2 player is lot better than that, but we do get random griefers every now and then...

Had a blast today with 109. I decided when Gazala round started that if I get the 109, I will try my best to cover the Stukas. Where they went, I wasn't far behind. Of course it was an impossible task against 3 Hurricanes, but what the hell. When it was all over I was quite stunned by the score. Almost all kills were planes. Some misc. AA and AT, but I did concentrate on air superiority.

A bit later, I did the same on El Alamein. Again, Stukas are my babies, gotta watch their flight. This round I started hearing that flying with a joystick should be banned 8) One of my better days, even still far away from crazy days of BF '42.

I remembered that Fraps was on at some time through El Alamein.. and all I got is a 35 sec clip of me strafing AA and getting killed by RaraRuffy. :( Capture key is far away from controls and I forget it all the time because all I think of is possible targets, friendly positions, kills in upper left corner etc etc...

I should cap some of my flying for a FH2 flight school :p

Had some good time in Rumble, I think I played... Lüttich and Falaise Pocket with a nice disconnect between them.

Morten was, once again, the main killing field of the round and we sure gave those Coke sipping Amerikaner a good bashing. Love the map, the infantry action with occasional fast tanking. One of the few maps where tanks need the infantry. I'm pretty sure I'm confusing some parts of the round to a previous round on HSLAN earlier today, but let's not worry too much of that. Was great fun, thanks to all who joined.

Falaise Pocket, another of my favorites. After reconnecting I found myself among the people who speak English but have no idea of tea time. Barbaric, I know. PIAT was the only way to go, with the oh so wonderful Browning HP. When I spawned the round was well on it's way and the fighting pretty much went between Church and St. Lamber South. Occasionally we captured the Battery and kept the pressure off Lambert. Again, very much fun.

After another disconnect, I gave up. I can go on for hours but the disconnects just end the fun and joining up again with a trip to desktop is... I'm just too lazy :-[

I was on an earlier FH Game Night, maybe a week or 2 ago. I didn't know of these before, but will be joining up every time I can! :)

Ugh... I wrote a HUGE rant about how FH2 should have another engine, which then slowly changed to Western games being completely tasteless and how I only buy games because of mods or future mods and finally going through publishers bad policies etc etc. Meh.

It was like a full page on my screen when I noticed this is SO off-topic I better just delete it and start over.

Anyway, ArmA2 is coming. If it turns out to be decent engine, maybe someone feels like making a decent WW2 mod for it. I like the idea of one for such engine.

A small list of dream engine abilities for FH in the Utopia where I live time to time...

-At least 128 players, preferably twice that or as much as server hardware allows
-At least 1km max visibility
-BF2 or CoD kind of playability (as in aiming, moving)
-Flying straight out of IL-2 :D (yes, I love it.)
-Sound engine from Flashpoint/ArmA (distance effects etc) and IL-2 (schweet sounds from planes that reach miles :))
-Bits and pieces from such games as WW2Online, BF1942, T-34 vs. Tiger, Red Orchestra, Battlestations: Midway..

*sigh* One can dream.

And I definitely would buy FH.

Tactics & Tutorials / Re: Achtung, Spitfeuer: Pilots gather!
« on: 21-04-2009, 20:04:29 »
A few things from BF'42 vet..  ;D

All I can say is that when you find a pilot superior to your skills, fly against him until you learn how to down him. All pilots have a weakness. Sometimes even the best miss the sight of enemy, don't bother with their rear (some Stuka there, bwahah..) or are just too concentrated on the task at hand.

I can't say anything for the JoyToKey software, I have never needed it since I started flying on BF '42. I have a.. how would i describe it.. a sixth sense and years of experience about what the pilot in my sights or on my six is going to do. ;) Also, the view behind you is the most useful and will often tell what enemy is pulling out of his sleeve next. I rarely go down (unless on field rearming or repairing.. or that stupid tree/pole there) and it's pretty much because of this awareness I keep on enemy. There are hints of what's going on all the time. I keep track of the map, the kills (who killed what with what) and I link these all the time. Of course I drop most of this when target emerges.

The map tells you SO much even if nobody spots for enemy planes or other targets properly. Someone dies to a 109 strafe and disappears from the map.. I see you. Someone (in current FH2) spots a Spit without binocs, making himself blink yellow on the map (this could be a bug, but I rarely see the actual target  :-\).. I see you. There's a huge load of kills for Hurricane and only one flag where fighting is going on.. I see you. The information is there.

When someone gets on your tail without you noticing it, you still have a chance. More than often (happens to all) the guy on your tail shoots just a bit too soon and you can see tracers go by. Time for a half barrel roll with a dive against enemy. Or fake split-S followed by real split-S. A thousand choices and almost all of them can and will save you. Just don't pull straight up or keep going around :p A good pilot will shoot you if you go straight up or take some distance and boom 'n zoom you while you turn and burn.. You will soon learn to keep correct height for these manoeuvres.

Only thing that really makes me sad is that DICE left out the gravity on BF2.. BF'42 is just SO much more fun when going against good pilot and that's why flying is fun. In FH2 I sometimes get dissed by other players when I don't use 109 to strafe something for kills, but entertain the 2-3 enemy planes with it. Bleh..

Anyway, keep your head cool, lead your targets more when you think it's enough and check your six every chance you get. Also, offline training is excellent for manoeuvres and all pilots love Il-2 Sturmovik: 1946 :)
