Suggestions / Re: Expanded volume settings
« on: 10-10-2015, 12:10:19 »
Just set effects on 20-30% of volume, and voice on 100%, then turn your volume up and voila, you will hear you teammates very clear (dunno why this option is called "help voice" in the launcher and "voice over" in the game options, btw)

Those aspects of the game you mentioned cannot get separate volume controls, because they create one sound system where all sounds blend together and devs are doing their best to give you the best audible experience (yes, a lot of tweaks in this department have been done recenetly). Also, I can only imagine some people boosting volume of some aspects of the game to get unrealistic advantages over others, if your idea would be implemented.

I will try your volume suggestions and report back.

I thought of those unfair advantages too (imagine if somehow a player could up the volume of enemy's footsteps, or become able to hear an enemy call an arty strike from half a click or something). That would make any positives worthless. So forget it if that's the case.

And like I said, this is no attack on the auditory part of FH2, which anybody with half a brain and a quarter of an ear can hear fucking rocks.

Suggestions / Expanded volume settings

Oh shit Morty, looks like we crashed into a reality where you still have to do the obligatory "I don't know if this is possible, but..." routine when suggesting a way to improve Forgotten Hope

Ah geez

Time is running out: currently we have three options for sound settings in FH2, where we can adjust volume: Effects (gun sounds, explosions, etc.), Music (map load songs & menu music) and the Help Voice.

Is it possible that through the Audio page on the launcher, we could have instead of just "Effects", different options for things like gun noise, ambient noise, vehicle engine noise, plane engine noise, etc. I don't think any part of the FH2 audio is off, and the ambient noise is of course gorgeous (go walk around Keren 32 on an empty server and tell me your dick doesn't get hard), but if this is possible it would be really cool.

I have a ton of trouble hearing my squadmates when I'm in a vehicle, but if I go turn the effects down, ten seconds later we're bailing out and I can't hear footsteps, let alone an enemy machine gun that might be five feet from my head. But there are plenty of other reasons why this would be handy. I know quite a few people who like music in the background while they jab the shining needle of FH2 into a throbbing vein, and this would be excellent for those people.

It wouldn't need to be ultra-specific, like down so far that you can choose between 0-1000% volume setting for the sound of tearing meat and snapping tendons as you remove your bayonet from the enemy, but It would be great to be a little more picky with the volume in particular aspects of the mod.

General Discussion / Re: FH2 Thursday Reloaded!
« on: 19-09-2015, 07:09:05 »
Filters was the problem. I work 3-midnight every day but Sunday so opportunities to play on Thursday and Friday are few and far between. Though I've managed to remain employed and on this same shift for over 17 months now, there is of course always the chance I will be found out as a drunken incompetent lazy pig and be fired, and would therefore be able to play with you guys again.

I hope, with the influx of new players we will presumably get once the Russian front is released, we are prepared to find a way to return to 20-30 players at night. Obviously more than that would be great, but you don't need so many to have fun. Someone had the idea once of a way to text or Whatsapp or message in some way players once the server becomes populated (or even some kind of reminder notification on Thursdays and Fridays).

I don't know what the solution is. I just know not a night goes by I don't dream of all the fighting on WaW in the past, and that bittersweet mixture of American blood and English gin on my bayonette, so swiftly removed from Eightball's guts.

I've been playing FH1/2 since whenever the hell FH1 came out, and naturally about a decade later my question is: how to make a bazooka/panzerschrek shoot straight?

Maybe the ol' filters are off a little bit, I will double-check. From time to time joining directly to the IP is the best way to go about it.

Not that I can usually play at night anymore, but I don't even see a WaW server when I search in FH2?

Gaming / Re: Project Reality Mod
« on: 31-05-2015, 09:05:33 »
I'll probably go back to PR at some point. I fucking love that mod.

Last I played was eight or nine months ago. As a Russian infantryman right at the start on Saaremaa, got dropped off by the cow while my 7 squadmates advancing through the woods were blabbering endlessly in mumble and not paying attention, they halted for no apparent reason (not to build a FOB, since our SL had taken an AR kit for some reason) and completely failed to notice the Osprey landing a hundred yards in front of us right at Orisaare and an enemy squad getting out.

I could see the whites of their eyes, the burger grease dripping fromn their lips. Opened fire with my PKM and nailed five of them and damaged the bird. I reported it coming in, landing, and taking back off again. I didn't need to since it literally drowned out our comms. As it flew back off into the distance, my squad finally unfucked itself and woke up.... only for our medic to teamkill me, our LAT kit to shoot a tree, our HAT kit to fire at the plane once it was a million miles away, and our SL wielding an RPK to empty a banana clip into an empty house a hundred feet from all the dead Yanks I had just killed and then kick me from the squad for firing without permission.

And that was the day I quit PR for the five hundredth time.

Okay, after 4 hours of patience I could only have learned by gluing pine needles to my nuts and laying in wait for Shermans in the Ardennes, we seem to be back in business. I stripped my PC bare of any mention of BF2 and FH2, used the two part downloads instead of the launcher, and all seems to be well. I appreciate all your help.

Did you check that the uninstaller deleted ALL files when you tried to reinstall?

Did you install ALL the .Net Framework versions? IIRC you still need the older versions even if you update to the newest one...

Also, check that your GPU drivers are up to date (although it probably isn't that).

And one more thing, Windows 7 can be annoying if you set UAC control settings to high. I'd recommend installing BF2/FH2 on your non-system partition.

Good luck.

That's the trouble with the .NET Framework. I have installed and now reinstalled 4.5.2, and it won't allow me to reinstall previous versions for any reason. The installer literally blocks the "Next" button if it detects a higher version, which I have.

Hey Christie!

Have you tried the "repair" function in the FH2 Launcher?

Several times, homie. I keep peppering this whole affair by attempting to repair, but this hasn't helped so far.

Maybe a stupid idea, but maybe run as administrator with XP compatibility?

When I try this, FH2 (in both windowed and full screen modes) crashes to desktop, rather than displaying the error message I screenshotted above. When I go back to unchecking Run as Administrator and Run in Compatibility Mode For XP SP3, I am right back where I started, and get the same message as before.

"Pure virtual function call" is a low level generic error, not specific to FH2 or BF2, and containing little useful info but "something bad just happened". The only thing I can definitely tell is that it has nothing to do with the .NET framework. Does vBF2 launch fine for you, Christie?

A quick Googling (and being late for work already when I started this thread, it was QUICK fucking Googling) lead me to believe that .NET Framework might be a part of the problem. Vanilla BF2 launches and then black screens, and the task manager will not come up. I am stuck on a dead screen and have to restart my PC.

Was Windows 7 reinstalled? Like .NET Framework, Visual C++ has numerous versions so make sure they are up to date.

If there was not a problem with a previous BF2/FH2 installation, can it be recovered from a backup to eliminate the possibility of a fault in the new installation (copy game and user folders, and export-import registry entries). Or if there was a problem and to really uninstall as LuckyOne says, the user files and registry probably have to be deleted manually.

I don't know how the launcher updater works but it would seem potentially less problematic to get and verify the installers seperately (maybe it did download them to your system?).

Same version of Windows 7 Pro that came with this PC 4 or 5 years ago. I don't think I can recover any old installation.

Right now, where we are is that I've uninstalled FH2 + BF2 and deleted manually every possible inkling of the mod and vanilla game I can find. Currently I am downloading FH2 in two parts from the Downloads page on the off chance this is different from the FH2 Launcher and may somehow work.

I regret very deeply the billion or so times I have uninstalled this mod in an attempt to instead do something productive with my time. The only bullshit I ever deal with in the form of black screens, CTDs and runtime errors is when I am trying to reinstall the game, almost as if Our Lady FH is offended by my reckless uninstalling and is determined never to work again.

Thanks for your help guys - I will plow on trying to get all the screws tightened in the right order and I am sure, eventually, you will feel the sizzling kiss of molten copper with love from me to you and your Sherman before you know it.

My name is Christie Front Drive, and you may remember me as the man who zooked your Panther. I've been trying for a few weekends now to reinstall FH2 on my computer, to play on the weekend.

To the delight of tank crews everywhere, these attempts have been thwarted by an irritating issue. I have installed BF2, the 1.41 patch, the 1.5 patch, and the alt+tab hotfix. Then I installed FH2 via the launcher. When I open FH2 I can access the settings/update window (with the British truck), but when I go to launch the mod, I get a black screen and the message "Error 6025: pure virtual function call".

Screen:

Here is what I have tried so far to fix this issue:

  • reinstalling and update .net Framework
  • downloading and installing all normal Windows Updates (I am running Windows 7 on this system)
  • uninstalling and reinstalling BF2 + FH2 roughly 10 times in the past couple weekends
  • endless Googling of this error message and downloading various files that have not helped slightly
  • cleaning the registry via CCleaner

Anyone got an idea on how I might fix this issue? FH2 worked absolutely perfectly on this computer from 2011 to a few months ago. Now it seems no matter what I try, the mod is determined not to launch.

General Discussion / Re: Banning people for nothing

I'm admin on 762 (though not the one who banned you, I only play on weekends usually) and I know those rules are stupid. I hate having to kick someone for naming their squad SS-PZ.Div or whatever. But I think it may have something to do with German law (762 servers are in Germany) and any Nazi/SS promotion is illegal.

Europe is kind of ass backwards about that kind of stuff.

See you on the battlefield!

FH2 Help / Support / Re: Black screen + CTD on launch

Right on, I've just tried and done a system restore and that's worked as a fix for me by itself, so I can live with that. Thanks for your help.

FH2 Help / Support / Black screen + CTD on launch
« on: 26-01-2015, 18:01:25 »
My FH2 crashes to desktop the second after I hit play. I get a black screen for a moment, and then CTD, like the game is trying to launch and failing. I have tried reinstalling, repairing, reinstalling BF2, etc. nothing has worked. Cleaned registy and nothing. Tried running in windowed mode but I get the same thing happening, and no error message. I also tried the ol' trick of editing my profile configuration file in notepad to remove a few lines but that didn't help either.

I'll look through other threads for more solutions but please help if you know how to fix this. I updated my nvidia driver this morning and then this started happening, so that's probably the issue, but I'm a moron and I have no idea what to do about that, or what settings to change in the nvidia control panel. A windows update this morning might also be to blame...

One time I played FH1 Counterattack 1940 in drunk in single player on a lonely night as the French/British force and I took the Char B1 and tried to steamroll German armor, and me and the short-barreled StuG traded shots from a few hundred meters for over ten minutes before finally I managed to switch from the 75mm to the 47mm for the millionth time just as he was turning to face me and I had me a StuG-B-Q.
