1st rule! forget the Copy and paste Function in uvw unwrap in 3ds max! its bugged!
if you have some parts which are the same shape uvw it 1 time, uvw map it. and copy it. the model will keep the uvw applied till you edit it.
all parts will share the same uvw space then. if you want to have a seperate Texture on it you can move it later aaround on your uvw.
2nd rule " A good UV map is when you cant write your name on it, without writing on your Model!" Use all the surface. scale parts up.
3rd Rule " Parts you cant see together , can use the same Texture."
