Your two favourite! Explain why you love it, or why you hate it. Or anything relating to balance factors.
Also, do you feel the plane operates as intended in relation to its advantages and disadvantages?
-
I really like the Hurricane as a fighter plane. I had lots of fun with it and its cannons :D Some dogfights might be tough in one of these cause of the lesser manouverability compared to the spitfire. All in all,it's a nice plane
My second choice is the Stuka as it has that sense of destruction. You can feel the tension when going into that dive, hearing the horns and everything. When I fly in a stuka, I feel like I can make a difference on the battlefield so usually I take my time to find an appropriate target for my bombs ;D
-
Sorry i try to keep my feet on the ground as much as possible :P
My favourite though if i had to pick is the Stuka and the BF109F4
Stuka because i love dive bombing and to hear that awesome siren. 109 because of its looks really.
-
Beaufighter. It just pwns everything. On el Alamein it can blow everything up on the neutral base if its bombs are dropped properly and its autocannons are death to mechanized infantry.
-
wtf, no spotter planes?
-
Hawker Hurricane MKII D is missing from the list. The one with AT guns. It's just so fun to fly around with it and kill tanks :).
Second favourite would be beaufighter. It's just killer on ground attack missions.
-
fockewulf because well it completly dominates everything ingame
Still no Correct spitfire in Normandy aswel
-
I hardly fly in FH2, so purely based on looks and attitude. And rep too. If I know a plane sucked at what it was meant for I have a hard time liking it. :)
Beaufighter - I've always had a soft spot for 2 engine 'fighter' planes and the beaufighter not only has the looks (engines sticking out in front of the nose - good thing!) but the skills as well. Plus, that sound is mesmerizing.
FW-190 - Later versions of the 109 are nice too (the G), but the 190 will always be my favorite german plane, since I was a kit. Like the long nose variant better (D and above, if I remember correctly from my childhood), but the early version has this stout, snub nosed bad ass quality to it.

P-51 Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolt
i dont fly much because its boring to get into a dogfight which i lose flying with a mouse (and hurting hands). i tried it with keyboard controls and that is even worse for me.
so i prefer to bomb ground targets and with these 2 aircraft i can hit everything on the ground and get vehicle-kill after vehicle-kill.
-
B 25! <3
But since that's not an option I'd go with the Spit and P 51...
-
Typhoon ... one word? Rockets. I guess the it was this or the P47, but I kinda got used to this one first
Second is beau. You can drop bombs and yet have powerful cannons.
I would have said Stuka for second, but with terrible handling, its so easy to pick off once it becomes clear where it is.

Try to fly with a gunner on the rear MG, if he is skilled enough you may have surprises. ;D

Except that the rear gunner can do jack shit cause the sensitivity of the rear MG sucks hard... You need to move your mouse all over the table to move the MG just a few inches to the left...

On-list: Stuka, P-47.
I like rockets and bombs.
Off-list: Storche, P-47
-
BF109 F4, because it's the closes to G and I really like the focused fire of its nose guns
Beaufighter, because it has a great view, awesome concentrated nose cannons, and bombs.
-
Thunderbolt, cal 50 mgs and rockets are owning ground and air
Stuka: strong against tanks, and also pretty strong against planes- too strong if you ask me.
eventhough I liked the old version better where you droped 4x50kg bombs at once, and they actually hitted something, the 2x2x50 are not too good.
-
one guy picked the best fighter in the mod, is this a sign that people think it's overpowered? :P
-
Fieseler Stroch because it is named after a Bird!

That was me, and I don't even fly. :)
-
I chose the spitfire and stuka. Chose the spit for its looks. Always loved this bird with its sleek lines and curves :) My other choice was the Stuka because this bird is sturdy and mean. I imagine it like a vulture circling over its prey.
@Tankbuster: lol....I use cloud cover ;D
-
A big, fat vulture that shouts "Blow me" at the 40mms on the ground.
-
i miss the plane handling from the first release but I do really appreciate the nerfing that was implemented so the noobs could have a chance to play.
atm, favourite plane is the Beaufighter with the dual nuclear bombs on Mareth line.
I would like every single plane if they had a nose-cam, the view distance in the game is so short that nosecam is the ony way to go if you have to play on lowered settings.
-
*Whines about dumbing down the planes to appease noobs*
*Wants a nose cam*
-
*Destroys a mechanized advance force with a single pass with the Beaufighter
-
I play infantry only, so planes are really more like background graphics to me ;) a bit like artillery.
edit: in fact, looking at my stats I have been killed 655 times by rifles, but only 8 times by artillery and never by plane :D

Doesn't understand simple English, what a fucking surprise here ... I will repeat the quote
""i miss the plane handling from the first release but I do really appreciate the nerfing that was implemented so the noobs could have a chance to play.""
I like anything that makes Fh2 accessible to an ever-dwindling playerbase. Since I use a trackball mouse, the newest release of plane handling characteristics have altered my ability to fly capably.
I didn't whine about anything Toris, so pull your head out of your ass and perhaps reserve your commentary unless it is constructive or at the very least cogent.

I think you have died 8 times IN artillery and never in plane. Correct, anyone?

hmm good question. I think I am right though.

Is there any way to make the freelook in planes reverse itself? So I hold control and move the mouse up to look up, as in a tank? Reversing the plane controls makes them unflyable because it obviously reversed the whole control scheme. I don't fly much so it doesn't bother me much but I find it really awkward.
-
Is that a Mosquito Harmonikater?
-
Oh yes. i hope theyre gonna make it sometime
-
1)The BF109G because it has good allround performance.
2)The P-51 because it was fast and very maneuverable at high speed.
3)The FW190 because it had massive firepower and could take a fair amount of damage.
4)The P-47 because it had massive firepower and could take more damage than any other fighter.

I think this thread is about planes ingame, not real life.
There's no 109G ingame and P-47 can take damage so much that it blows up after 1,5 second burst from FW190 :-\.

Every plane in FH 2 is like that... I really wish the devs would revamp plane damage system so we can get some kind of "weakspots" while shots on the fuselage wouldn't deal so much damage...
I know we'll never get a complex IL 2 like damage system where you can keep flying with half of your rudder blown off, engine on fire, jammed MGs, missing tail fin etc. in this mod...
But something more complex than the arcadey approach we have now would be great!
-
They could add an onboard freelook option wich doesnt disable the controls.
If anything could improve the flying experience this would be it.
-
unfortunately that doesnt work because of the bf2 engine

Having played IL-2 I simply cannot enjoy flying in FH2... I prefer AA role :P
But I actually think that the devs made a great job considering all the engine limitations. All the planes have sort of a character, and this is a great achievement comparing it to the vanilla Bf2.

My favorites are the Ju-87 and the Typhoon.
I like the good old Stuka because it has 5 powerful bombs, and in some cases you can take out small columns of tanks with said bombs, in spite of my often missing aim with the Stuka.
I like the Typhoon because unlike the P-47, it has twin cannons I can use on light armor and infantry for strafing, and also has rockets. The only times I ever killed a Tiger were a Bazooka on Ramelle, or using the great Typhoon on Totalize.
If I could select a 3rd it'd be the P-47 for it's dozens of 50 caliber guns, capable of quickly dealing with enemy fighters. I still prefer cannons for strafing runs though, but the 50 caliber guns aren't bad for strafing cars, halftracks, and trucks.
-
I prefer the FW-190 (D9 variant?). Fastest plane currently in FH2 far as I know, which means its one of the best planes to dogfight with at the moment.

I think it's A8...my 2nd favourite in FH2

The Fw190 ingame feels very heavy compared with the P-47, while the P-47 weighs much more IRL.
1 Hurricane, good allround vision from cockpit, good maneuverability.
2 Typhoon, good armament, good forward vision.
Also because they are available on large maps with few AA guns.
