Suggestions / Re: Minor Nations
« on: 02-08-2012, 23:08:34 »
Yes, I exagerated a bit.

History and casualties proved that the decisions the French, British, Finns, Romanian and so on took, were the right ones, while the brave, desperate and bloody way the Poles and Serbians had chosen was the wrong one.

There was disappointment about letting the Axis take the initiative and not intervening. The neutral east european states witnessed the fate of Poland and were threatened by the Axis and the Soviet Union. Probalby every country would have thought first about the own population. I don't want to be in the situation to take such decisions and I'm glad that those people took them and were right. Sometimes it's healthier to retreat and it is alright in our culture in contrast to Japan in WWII for example. Though for me it leves a bitter aftertaste.

Back on topic:
It would be nice to play battles like "Could have the French and British Army stop the Wehrmacht?". It is not realistic at all, i know. But we already have maps which mostly end up contrary to the historical outcome.
But before I get to play the French Army I would like to play the Finns. Not as part of the German invasion but the Winter War.

If only one minor nation can be added id like it to be Finland.  I like their story of survival, it really interest me.  Mighty Russia thought it would be easy, Finland proved them wrong.  I think they would be one of the "easier" nations to add.  They used alot of Soviet and German weapons and vehicles.  They can also use the civilan vehicles as well.

Totally agree!
Would like to play them!

Suggestions / Artillery 2012/2.45
« on: 01-08-2012, 23:08:57 »
As most threads about the artillery system date from 2010 or earlier I start a new thread.

I like the spotter/arty system and though it is not realistic it fits the fast pace of the game, so I don't ask for a change here.

Maps are well known after a few rounds and anybody can aim using the crosshairs on fixed details (clouds/trees/etc.) with a little training. This is quite unfair if aimed at enemy fixed positions behind ABC lines and leads to teamkilling if outside ABC. If this  is to be discouraged, moving clouds could be a possibility but this would require many maps to be changed and then we could still do "treespotting".

So my suggestion is to change the dials view to only dials with the sight on the surroundings replaced by opaque white. I do not suggest to remove the target view.

I'd prefer to have only target view (no dials) with some aiming aid on the edge, but as this would be more work, I made the simplier suggestion of changing the center of the dials to white.

Personally I don't have any ambition to see the Romanians in FH2. It was a suggestion, but I don't really see any advantages. Except you want to do some really low tech maps with badly equiped Romanians vs just as badly equiped Russians. Or if you need high tech vs low tech you can have scenarios like Axis vs SU or SU vs Romania (early) or Romania vs Axis (44).

General / Re: Static AA-Bren Hit Indicator
« on: 01-08-2012, 22:08:45 »
My impression is that planes are quite powerfull because of their ammunition having a great range of destruction, while the AA capabilities are constantly reduced. I'm good at AA and see the pilots getting frustrated and then complaining here and in the next patch the AA range and ammo is reduced and bombs radius increased. This is not fair.
I shot pilots with bren and rifle out of their planes because they flew too low though it was 1 in 100 attempts, I shot karel's and other good players planes in 2.4 several times with bofors. But in the process I died more often than they did, but this is not told. The pilots complain if they cannot shoot everything on the ground without a threat, but AA should be a threat to planes and not only a trap for infantry believing in its inexistent AA capability.

I think that the problem with Romania and Hungary is that they were pretty much integrated in the German (later Russian) Operations and not fighting on their own and I suppose that there is no possibility to put two nations in one team.

The Finish have a good reason to be included as they fought a war on their own against Russia.

But the French from my perspective avoided to fight and had less casualties than Romania or even Hungary with regard to military and civil casualties as well and those had no colonies. If you take France alone without her colonies you have even less battles fought by France. Sorry to say that but France was quite anxious to avoid fighting while other countries like Poland and Romania fought for their existance. The French abandoned their allies and had others fight for them later on. Though they finally didn't manage to keep their country out of war, they were still not gratefull to be liberated but sad about the destructions. France should have not been counted to the victorious countries as they didn't oppose any serious resitance to the German Invasion and even cooperated with them. I like the French people but the second world war was not an honourable part of their history.

General / Static AA-Bren Hit Indicator
« on: 30-07-2012, 09:07:55 »
The Fixed AA-Brens can now shoot horizontally. Thank you very much for this improvement. However I do still have a question: Do they hit anything? While I sometimes manage to get a hitmarker when firing the usual Bren (kit weapon) at planes, I never saw a hitmarker while using the static bren, though I was also firing at slow moving targets. First I led the target, as with any weapon, but as there was no marker I increased and decreased the leading but I still got no marker. I cannot tell if there was damage or not because I was not the only one firing at the planes. It irritates me because without the marker I cannot tell if I got the right leading distance or not. I cannot tell if the static brens hit anything earlier because I don't know anybody who can confirm a hit with them.

Romania took part in the invasion of the soviet union with it's third and fourth army:

It was involved in the following operations:

On worldwar2.ro you can find a lot of information about the Romanian Army in WWII.
They had dated equipment but where given some german equipment later on as they proved their bravery.

I'm not proud of this part of the romanian history but they didn't had many choices. They tried to find another way than the correct, brave but unfortunate polish example, so they tried to choose the lesser evil of Soviet Union and 3rd Reich, which both threatened Romania. The allies from the first world war were far away and not able to help (see Poland). Romania had treaties with England, France, Poland and Serbia but the Axis and the SU were at her borders.

it would be a little weird though to be hit inside a building and not to see walls colapse but an intact house. It's like doing spells and this is sth. why I never enjoyed games like WoW or Masters of Might and Magic but only strategy and shooter games.

Yes, in 2.4 mostly engineers had it now everyone seems to have it and i do not like it either. Actually I like it as long as it is an exception but not when it is regular.

Suggestions / Re: Simulate disabled tank
« on: 27-07-2012, 14:07:01 »
What would be the benefit for gameplay from a disabled tank?
Tanks got disabled by critical hits (turret, tracks). If disabling a tank is dependent on damage then we will see a lot of disabled tanks and less tank kills.

General / Re: HSlan angled damage change
« on: 26-07-2012, 10:07:14 »
The problem is obvious, hitting the red part IRL, the shell would bounce into driver window and kill things inside. In game, the red part "absorb" the shell, then angle mod decide not to do any damage due to the high angle.

As a conclusion the angle mod should only apply to the surfaces at the edges. I mean the sides, the top and the bottom of the vehicle. But I don't know if it is doable.
