Developer Blogs / Re: How to make an Eastern Front map
« on: 14-08-2014, 00:08:00 »
The initial learning curve for mapping is huge, escpecially in bf2/fh2. Mudzin made a great reccomendation for joining up with a community in which maps are activily made. For my first map for the Forgottenhonor tournament I received loads of help from the community and even some (future/ex) fh2 devs. My first map (Etna Line) took 200+ hours to make and the quality was even so-so. Now I can make such a map in a far shorter ammount of time deu to practice and understanding. Of game mechanics, spawn placement, and just how the overall editor and supporting programs work. (Such as importing a google earth image as a base layer to make your map on)

TS4EVER Also has a really valid point. If you easily give up in the face of advesities than mapping is not for you. But still having a helpfull active community who helps you can be tremendous for your motivation (at least it was for me)

For all tf2 fans. A 15 min long official movie from the tf2 team on par with the "meet the" movies.

Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers

Now this is a documentary made in the textbook style of American documentaries. Heavy dramatization and biased name calling (the first 10min where awfull in my opinion). However the movie's strong point is the subject matter. Especially for europeans this movie might provide some new insights and idea's about private military contracting firms. Americans might already be up to scratch on the subject since their news got bombarded with this but for a European who is less known with how private military contractors operate this documentary is a good first step into understanding the bussness and its impact.

Gaming / Re: Recommendation for strategy based lan games?
« on: 15-08-2013, 17:08:26 »
Thanks for the extra tips.

I actuallt forgot to mention dawn of war! Ever since winter assault came out it was on our lan party list and indeed we skip soulstorm and stay with dark crusade. Mostly I play imperial gaurd and just swarm my opponents with endless waves of gaurdsmen followed by indiscriminate basilisk fire that does more harm than good for my soldiers most of the time  ;D

For company of heroes to work on lan we cannot patch upto a certain point so sadly mods where out of the question.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds was indeed a great addition to freshen up the age of empires 2 setting I usually stick with trade federation since I just digg their army composition.

I personally enjoy total war al lot but just having battles without the campaign map sadly broke the athmosphere of the game for me and my friends :( The later option to play a campaign together in MED total war kingdoms just didnt do it for us sadly since there was still alot of autoresolving.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Since when did XCOM get COOP? At least when I played it there was only an option to play against one another. Did it arrive with the new DLC?

Gaming / Recommendation for strategy based lan games?
« on: 14-08-2013, 18:08:25 »
Hello great community.

Lately I have run out of Strategy lan games to play with my buddies thus far we have played the following:

Age of empires 2
Anno 1602 (yes the very old one)
Axis and allies
Battle for midle earth 1 and 2
Blitzkrieg 2
Civilization 4
Company of heroes
Command and conquer games (mainly red alert 3 and generals)
Commandos 2
Defcon
Hearts of iron 2
Panzers Phase one
Stronghold 1
Supreme commander 1
Warcraft 3
World in conflict

Things we werent interested in:
Act of war
Endless space
Homeworld
Ruse
Sins of a solar empire
Supreme commander 2 (way too limited compared to supreme commander 1)
Total war games (battles with ai where auto resolved which broke the gameplay for us)

Now trying Star wars empire at war

We basicly have run out of strategy games to explore and where wondering if you guys had any worthwhile mentions of awesome strategy games that we may have overlooked.

Please bear in mind that this is a lan and that games such as starcraft2, sim city etc are out of the question deu to their online requirements (we worked around the company of heroes one)

Looking forward to your suggestions

COAST GUARD CUTTER SINKS SUB: Sailors aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SPENCER watch a K-Gun go into action following detection of a submarine below [the] surface. This is the opening round of a battle in which the sub is blown to the surface, where it is engaged by Coast Guardsmen protecting a large Atlantic convoy.

What is the stuff floating in the air on the upper right?
