Very nice idea!

As a suggestion for the real map, draw the road more like a diagonal, so you can make it a bit longer.

Unless you want the minimap to looks like "Gold Beach classic"  ;D

Once I tryed to make a map like that for fh1, the only difference is that the map would be based on "the island". The idea was that the allies would be able to see Arnhem bridge itself when they were attacking the last positions, heavy defended, they would conclude that it is a bridge too far.

Some WIP pics. After building the rough layout of the map, I started fleshing out the rural area around the first flags. Not very efficient, but I wanted to try out the new stuff and I have something to show that doesn't look too awful.

My version of the Dutch countryside around the city

Hell's Highway

Ample opportunity for ambushes and startling Panzerfaust attacks

This pond was part of a park like area before the war. Now it's in a pretty bad shape.

Tell me what you think :)

In the 2nd pic you need to change your color tiling to 1/1.

Looks great so far.  I was always under the impression that most of the road was elevated 1 meter above the fields around, making the tanks and vehicles easy targets for German gunners.  But I could be wrong.

I would also elevate the roads. Look at Totalize heightmap. Perfect road/field/ditch combinations.

an overlay picture for us?  :)

Yes a slight elevation of the road might be in order. Posting a minimap doesn't make much sense, I really only have some fields, a small river that will act as a "border" and a preliminary road and cp layout layout so I can judge distances.

Bit too light green in my opinion. It's the Netherlands afterall, and it's Septembre.

Nice idea for a map. Here's a reference for you if you need one. A 1943 US map of the area.

(5MB, so it may take a while to load.)

I don't think he has come to the texture part yet. it is temporary colors just for mapping reference.

Remember TS4Ever that making the road elevated a bit and having it very narrow is also important to have that distinctive hell's highway feature. :)

@Lightning: thx, I checked the area with google earth but it has changed quite a bit. I will concentrate on the area just before the city + some outskirts/ private gardens.

@Fuchs: With some texturing and lighting work it will look like autumn in no time.

@Flippy: Way ahead of ya  8)

The elevation is about 1m I think, more in places where a ditch is near the road.

One of the spawn-less flags will probably be here. The Germans can spawn in the farmhouse in the background and try to cut the highway again. Note that this area is still very empty.

I'm still following the plan from the first page, the only major change is the position of the German reinforcement flag.
