The good old times!
« on: 24-09-2015, 13:09:55 »
Remember, the good days of gaming, back then, in the 90's and early years after 00.
I do, it was awesome! .............. Ok, to the point.
Who remembers the time when games you bought came in large cardboard boxes. In the 90's in big boxes, and in the early zero's (00) the smaller boxes.
So, my question, what is the last game you purchased that came with a gamebox? + what is the game you played the most when you were a kid? For me it was Commander Keen 4 and 6
Mention yours, and perhaps show us your collection.

Example: Big box  ( not mine)

Example: Smaller box (mine)

My last big box was Jazzjackrabbit 2 (which I threw away. Worth +€150 now  :'(  )
My last smaller box was Grand theft auto San Andreas

My last cardboard-box game was Napoleon Total War.

My last Keep Case/Amaray was Stalker Clear Sky.

My first cardboard-box was Beau-Jolly's Big Box.

My first Keep Case/Amaray was Railroad Tycoon II Platinum.

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

Last big box - Deltaforce (that must have been in the late 90s), or maybe Halflife 1 also came in a big box, not sure.

Last small box - Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts (that was last year, lol)

Last boxed thing I bought was RO2... and even that contained only singleplayer and not the latest patch of the game. (And later they split it on Steam into SP and MP so I only have MP installed currently)

Overall, I love digital distribution for the ease of delivery (and the sales!) but the downside is that I never actually get to play most of the stuff I buy as I can't really be bothered to download it.
This sentence is intentionally left unfinished...

My last small box was Tomb Raider 2013
My last big carton box was probably Age of Empires The Rise of Rome Expansion. It might also be Age of Empires II, I'm no longer sure if the latter one was bought in a big box (i think so).

Thinking back on this, i realise how less special new games feel now when u just buy them en masse online

Never had a big box. Last small box was GTA:SA and Grand Turismo 4 for PS2. Since i got my PC all my games were digital or bootleg versions.

Oh man, Deltaforce! That is a real gem. That shooter had a sniper zoom function, which back then i've never seen before I think.

Indeed, you just download it. Funny thing is, I found an old CD at my cousins house when he move out. It is called 'Twilight' , one of the very first pirated CD series which you could buy from older guys at school etc. It contained around 20 full games. Even that had artwork on it  ;D

I have a few of those games in the big box image as well:
Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2,
Buck Rogers "Countdown to Doomsday" and "Matrix Cubed",
Wing Commander 1 & 2,
Populous and Magic Carpet

Aw, man, such amazing games :)

I think the last game i bought which was in a box was actually Company of Heroes 2 from a sales table.

Yeah, but BF1942 was in a small box when I bought it. There are these anniversary editions now, which are in a big box again, but then again, those boxes contain not one, but sometimes 6-10 games.

@ Deltaforce: a cool thing about that game was that you could wander off endlessly. The world was empty, but also limitless. It made a great passtime wfor when you were out of your mind ;)
