More trees.
« on: 15-09-2011, 00:09:42 »
Trees are a critical part of the gameplay in any Forgotten Hope map. However, I am afraid there are just not enough trees to accurately depict the tree on the battlefield. When ignorant people think about the Battle of the Bulge, they think about the Germans and the Americans. This is just not true. The numbers of trees produced in this period HEAVILY outweighs anything the Germans and Americans could bring to bear. The tree's participation in this battle between these two OVERRATED nations is nearly non existent in this mod. Here is a list of trees that I found today when I did extensive research on this website known as 'wikipedia' that I think should be implemented into the mod immediately.

the trees need

-Pinus sylvestris
-Picea specieses
-Larix decidua
-british armored cars
-Oh, and plenty of other trees from other european countries that don't really belong there, but I saw them on wikipedia so you might as well pour manhours into those, too.

Now, I know these trees don't have a place on any current map, so I fully expect you guys to make a map devoted to this selection of trees. If you don't, I'll be forced to mention them as much as possible in every post I make until I find something else to whine for.

In closing, make more trees. I'd try to make this last comment a poor attempt to speak tree language, but I don't think trees talk.

Trees are pretty hard to make, but it's something we're working on.

Pinus Sylvestris does not grow in Belgium, at least not in considerable numbers.

I like the idea to add more trees, the forests that are in games now doesn't make me feel like if I was in a forest, it's too open, not enough trees, and they need way more bushes/smalls trees/dead logs on the ground,  and the trees need to have lower branches, they starts too high in the tree.

in this picture you can not see really far, in most maps forests are more clearwoods than a real forest, but I imagine its for the FPS that forests doesn't looks like thoses.

New vehicle: bmkpfw I "Wünderbaum"

Armor: 350 mm solid oak bark
Speed: 10 km/h on road, 5 km/h in rough terrain
Armament: 7 meter long arms
Ammo: 5 ton rocks (solid, there were no AP rocks, though some SS baum divisions were equipped with Gross-geballte ladung with 4,3 tons of TNT)
Muzzle(arms) velocity: 100 m/s
Range: 250 meters

Production: 1398 produced from 1943-45. In Spring 44, the factory that produced the bmkpfw in the Ardennes was bombed with incendiary bombs by american B17, nearly burning up every wünderbaum under production.

Would be cool to have on Hürtgen Forest..

Whoa. I thought some of the trees on Hürtgen were pines... :o (Or, rather, they might be, but of different subspecie.)

Now that we're speaking, what trees we actually have in FH2 at the moment? There is something that looks like Picea abies, but is that actually a member of the Abies genus instead? Do we have even Betula pubescens or Betula pendula?

Maybe climbable trees (seeing the branches are placed like ladder rungs) or maybe better leaf rendering ???
