Man builds World War I trench in his backgarden
« on: 01-12-2012, 16:12:23 »

Saw this in my local news, so a had to show to you guys. And i thinks its deserves i'ts own topic. Also found a english version of this news to show to everybody...

Quote from: dailymail.co.uk
Surrounded by barbed wire, sandbags and mud, this 60ft trench is barely distinguishable from those occupied by British soldiers fighting in the First World War almost a century ago.
The enormous dugout has been painstakingly recreated by an ex-history teacher in his back garden in Surrey, and the dedicated 55-year-old even spent 24 hours living in its confines with a team of volunteers as part of his efforts to experience life as a WWI soldier.
Andrew Robertshaw and 30 helpers spent a month shifting around 200 tonnes of earth to build the enormous three-room trench, which he hopes will teach people more about the horrific living conditions endured by British troops during the Great War.

A trench in a zombie apocalypse wouldnt be protective enough, need height to fight the zombies.

He is gonna fill it with fellow neighbors, yeah, that or he is desperate for some sort of defense.  ;D

That's pretty damn cool. I mean, the average person would think it's highly awkward, but it's actually a great project to work on when you have too much time, gotta be a lot of fun thinking how to build it and what kind of rooms, signs, attachements you want to add as well. Trying to make history somewhat real is something I generally like, so really nice project there. I just wonder what the neighbours thought he is doing when he started to fuck up his garden ;D

Needs to add water and rats for a proper trench.

Milton Gault roared, "Roffey, I know bloody well that Jerry knows we are here but you don't need to advertise the fact!"

Hahaaa. We had trench complex at my grandparents when I was young. My uncle had excavator and made it for us. We used to play with wooden guns there with my cousins, later with pea guns and finally with airsoft weapons  8).

As you can see on the video, he already "flooded" some parts of the trench, the terrain around is all wet.

Man, nowdays theres alot of strange guys that already built holocausts safeplaces, but a entire vault...
only in Fallout.

Anyway, would be very fun if someone built 2 complexes of WW1 trenches, facing each one, then divide a group of people in 2 teams (32 for each side), after give airsoft guns (WW1 style)...    you got my point, right !?  :D

What about airsoft artillery? Wasn't that a huge factor?
