500 € Laptop
« on: 08-08-2012, 23:08:13 »
Hey guys,

I'm going to study by October and I need a Laptop for that. I never had a laptop before and don't know too much about them. I plan to get a 15" laptop, as powerful as possible. I don't want to play a lot on it though. When FH2 runs on it I am totally fine. I'm just afraid I pick one which turns out being incredibly slow, especially when I am on the internet. I just want to watch movies on it fluently and maybe do some image editing and be able to play some games, but not any highend stuff. 500 € is the budget and I guess it's realistic for what I plan to get. The battery service life should also not be too low.

So, I basically search for as much power as possible in 500 € to get a futureproof laptop as possible. It should not be too heavy though, because I most likely have to carry it around a lot. 500€ is the absolute maximum by the way. Can't go any higher than that. Well, I think that's it.

I have informed myself a bit about laptops and figured that this one might not be a bad choice for example:

What do you think about it, what suggestions have you got? :)

regards

I bought my laptop when it was on sale, an Acer Aspire 5750G for 495€, when the actual price was 700+

Features include 15.6 inch screen, Intel Core i5 (dual core, 2.4GHz, boost up to 3.0), Nvidia Geforce GT 540M with up to 4Gb memory, 6GB DDR3 memory, 500GB HDD, Bluray-DVD player, which I enjoyed immensely with Das Boot Directors cut.
I'd rather play Kimble with my ass!

Thanks man, that really helped a lot. Checked that kind of notebook and the price is really good for what it does I think. There are just, as always, a whole bunch of different versions of the 5750G. Your version is definitely out of pricerange at the moment but others look good. There is one model very similar to yours for very few money, but I can't find any merchant where I could buy it.

Problem is there are other versions for the same money with weaker equip just like Geforce 610M. Gonna take a more detailed look at it tomorrow. THis series is definitely looks good to start with, searching for the right laptop. Thanks again :)

I have one of those but with weaker components (i3 2.1 Ghz, 2 GB GT 540M, 4 GB DDR 3, 640 GB HDD) and while it was quite cheap (from my country's perspective, around 500 €, better ones are usually 700+ €) it overheats like hell after long gaming hours (I live in quite a warm climate though). Does yours have custom cooling? Cause the default cooling on mine just doesn't cut it... I need to get a cooling pad for it...

While my friend bought a 1000 € ROG Asus beast (imported from USA) just to have his adapter stop working after a few days... I guess money isn't everything...

I'm having trouble running BF3 with it, it keeps crashing on me on random intervals, but the GPU temp is not going past 81oC

Once again, just like for guy asking good 400€ (or was it 300?) laptop, I could only recommend used laptop. You likely won't get new laptop, that would still work with newer games after few years. Atleast take a look at them, I would have looked some for you, but I have no idea about good german websites :).

Even 6 month old laptop could have dropped almost half away from it's price.

Alright, thank you :)

Didn't even think about the possibility of getting a used laptop before. I'll see what the internet has to offer :) But as I said, I don't need a real good thing, just the best for the price which is probably offered by a used one, so I'll see.

;)

I said as futureproof as possible. I know I won't get anything being really futureproof. More meant like: futureproof = best avaiable for that price.
