Wasn't the original Transformers a comic about some kids who came in contact with those alien robots? I think it follows the story in that case but can't be sure

The original Transformers are as clusterfuck as it does in second Bay movie (Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen 2009), if my memory serves right. Basically you got female robots, elder robots, things that makes alien more human than Epic Meal Time crew.

It was cool back in 1980s when I was a kid and dreamed about sexy robots portraying pop culture and violence in one show. It has too many plot devices that makes you kinda ignore (or tolerate) them. But with the movie, even Michael Bay know it shouldn't be that cheesy, or it won't sell.

The first Transformers (2007) is the best IMO, it has everything a movie needs, generally coherent plot, somewhat a bit believable storyline, some degree of seriousness to attract new audiences, and cool action with never-seen-before effects. Only diehard fans and critics who basically love more smartass lines and more explicit sex scenes that hate it. All we need is to remove Michael Bay from the credits, and this movie will surely be in some of the Academy Awards nominations.

Yeah, they came from Cybertron, oh don't know how far it is. Basically these guys made a deal with General Motors, since they landed in USA, to supply them with spare parts in case they lost some during the battle with Decepticons. Kinda make sense, and beggars can't choose. Why the eff is Optimus have redneck flame vinyls, why Megatron looks more like spaghetti monster instead of drill sergeant in metal mask (as in the cartoon), why the robots lip synch, etc etc etc?

I can agree on the fact that the first Transformers ain't too bad.

Revenge of the Fallen on the other hand. I even today want my money back for seeing that POS in the cinema.

I have watched 9th Company and Ip Man, and more romantic comedies that I would have liked because high school girls love them a lot.

What'd you think of 9th Company? I hated how the movie gets ruined by the shoddy end-battle. Up until then it was a possible classic.

It was dark and grim, and very very very Russian.  The end battle could have had a little less death, and it was rather anti-climactic in my opinion.  I still liked the movie a lot though, but one problem I had was remembering and being able to identify who was who.

God on Trial (2008)
********************

As an Auschwitz barracks is turned into an unconventional court room, a judge, prosecution, defence, witnesses and the other prisoners start the case if God even exists and if he is guilty or innocent of their fate. An actors movie, with great writing and a lot of food for thought. Not too long, well-acted and good attempt at filming a familiar subject. Because most people have, at some point, heard the phrase: "Oh yeah? So where was God in Auschwitz?". It works out rather nicely without really offending anyone or growing too grim but rather optimally using the location as one of the most important factors. I guess me having been there added an extra dimension.

8/10

Used to be on YTube, but it seems fragmented now. You should be able to find it on some of the usual suspects though ;)

Another tip in this 'genre' comes to mind as well: KZ - German youths give tours in concentration camps, most of them have a 'shady' past. If I teached history, I'd show both Band of Brothers, Bridge too Far hehe etc.. but also this. Very suitable for high school classes.

Captain America: The First Avenger

First off, this has some alternate history WW2.
Its a nice blend of WW2, sci-fi, the special zing that comic book heros bring, alternate history, and a little of the Nazi occult. (Ok, maybe a wee tad bit more than a little!)

Today I had the oppurtunity of seeing the movie in 3D with a lady friend and her friend (A lady friends friend? Is there a term for that?)

Reluctantly sitting down, this being my first 3D movie, I took into consideration falling asleep because I did not think it would be a good movie. I was proven wrong, pretty quickly. The opening starts off with a U.S. team in antartica sent to investigate a crashed object (No, there aren't aliens, I figured there were at first, but there are none whatsoever.) and quickly leads to how Captain America came to be, which ties in well with the story.

I would like to get into the story, but I do not want to ruin it for people making their minds on it.

Myself, I enjoyed the alternate history. I think I spotted something akin to a miniature ratte in the movie whilst watching too!

So lets get down to the TL;DR

Pros:
Nice story
Ending
Great background
I DID NOT SEE ANY SWASTIKAS!

Cons:
the ending ending. The last line of the movie really leaves a sort of cliffhanger/disappointment at the same time. Myself, I wanted more.

4.7/5

Also, wait for the end of the credits!
