The final Trench hey ?
Is that renders of a map ?
Damn can't wait !
-
Perhaps something Finnish?
-
A new map?
-
Seelow Heights, Berlin, something final ;D ;D
No idea really.
-
two renders.
Bubble burst.
-
The Final Trench sounds like Last ditch so maybe these two renders are late war german rifles made for Volkssturm like VG 1-5 or VK 98. They are mentioned in changelog so why not :P
-
Now that's a KNOIFE!
Good job guys, glad to see Eastern Front is getting closer! I guess I'll just keep playing WT to get my Stalinium fix while waiting for the EF fun in FH2...
-
Oh shit, I forgot how to read hahah
Well then, I guess it's a shovel!
-
Nice! I guess these will be pick-up kits only, right?
-
I forgot all about these Volk weapons, the models look fantastic and realistic :). Will these be pick-up kits or limited loadout?
-
Nice !
I had no idea these things ever existed, this will be funny to use against the Soviets. :D
-
They will be in Panzerfaust 60 and 100 pickup kits.
-
"designed when Red Army was knocking on Berlin doors"-so Berlin( :o :o :o :o :o :o) or Seelow Heights map?
P.S. Very nice looking!!! :o :o I didnt know that they existed!
-
Very nice. i have held 2 of such K98k rifles. One was a BYF from 1944 reciever and the other one from steyr itself ,The stampings were unalligned. Perhaps maybe the reason of the reciever being rejected, knowing how batshit crazy K98k quality controls were
As for shot out barrels, this is one way true, but keep in mind, german rifle barrels were extremely straight. The germans put in massive work to only accept straight rifle barrels. Even the slighest bend, and it was rejeccted and send back to the shop. Steyr had a whole bunch of these barrels stored, with no time to re-straighten them, and also used them in the VG5 rifles. But by no means does this mean that these rifles were inaccurate. perhaps at very long range did it became really noticable
-
Very cool!
-
Awesome renders! :D Glad we could show these off.
One little thing about the Volkssturmkarabiner K98.
"Unlike the other rifles, this one had no magazine and had to be reloaded after each shot."
Do you mean it had to be bolted after each shot? Or literally reloaded like the Panzerbuechse 39? I know nothing about these weapons so that's interesting as hell to me 8)
-
Yes, it should be single shot. :)
-
I've been hunting with a somewhat similar weapon my entire life (Gras Y:1874). Annoying you cant fire a second time fast enough but forces you to make each shot count!
-
And you can pretend to be in the Franco-Prussian War.
-
Will we get civilian clothes with a "Volkssturm" armband ? I would be soooo happy! :)
-
Will we get civilian clothes with a "Volkssturm" armband ? I would be soooo happy! :)
That will probably be answered no. There was a custom map called Warsaw Uprising, which sprung up a debate on whether if it could be made official, and the developers said that they found shooting civilians in a game unethical.
-
The armband would turn them into soldiers imo.
Civilians fought battles, I mean if they have weapons and armbands it's legit imo.
Now I feel sad. :(
Many civilians took arms in ww2 how can that be ignored ?
If historical accuracy is wrong then I don't wanna be right.

There won't be models, but not for ethical reasons, simply because player models are really hard to do and these weapons are only in pickup kits and you can't change your model when picking up a kit.
-

There will be ported FH1 Seelow Heights map. I know that somebody has already posted the minimap somewhere here...

When you carry a weapon, you are no longer a civilian... ;)
-
Armed civilians become militia. Cheers for the update, I almost went histerical upon seeing these curious, but obscure weapons in my favorite mod. Great work devs!
-

So if you are, say, a machine gunner, and you pick up a rifleman's kit, you don't get the rifleman player model? I always thought you did for some reason.
-
Nope, only the kit geometry changes, which is hat, ammo pouches, and weapon.
-
A player model consists of two elements ingame: The actual 3d model, which gets assigned at start depending on which kit you spawn with, and the kit geometry, which are accessories like helmets, ammo pouches, holsters etc. There is one of these for each kind of kit. So if you spawn as a scout and pick up a rifle kit, you get a new helmet and other accessories, but your basic player model doesn't change. So you can't change from a Wehrmacht uniform into an old man or something like that.
-
And on Sidi Rezeh? I think you can get Italian player and German (remeber ita and ger voices)
P.S. Chad are you back in forum or also development?
-
Technically you could. There's no limit as to what you can put into the kit geometries, it still all gets weighted to the same 3p skeleton. The trick would be to superimpose a different player model (as part of the kit model) over the original player model so that the kit model covers the underlying player model at each time. Also the vertex weights would have to be matched to the original player model, otherwise parts of the original model might be visible during certain animations.
But covering everything is going to be pretty hard and most likely would result in strange-looking proportions for the new model.
Doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to replace or add smaller stuff like wedding bands, scarves, red cross armbands for medics, glasses, etc. in the kit geometries for a wider variety.

Just this.

cant wait to pull the trigger :)
Political correct :-(
Could some one please make a pack of cigarettes as pickup kit.
I like to see pulsing cigarettes in the mouth of player models
-
lolwut? do you really think they had time for a fag during the battles? that shit doesn't even happen in hollywood movies ???

Yes I could imagine someone in a tank smoking during battle :)
German soldiers smoke American cigarettes

That footage clearly shows battle aftermath - something you don't see in games, and why anybody would smoke in a tank during the battle? I think tank crews were rather too busy with killing enemies and trying not to get killed, rather than killing time smoking cigarettes... ::)
-
Smoking after a battle more likely than during. Especially since you gotta get that fast stress relief after experiencing a series of events that could have been your last. Plus, in many occassions I've read and heard about how during the times between battles, you had very little things to do, many picked up smoking to keep themselfs occupied and to make themselfs feel at least somewhat good in those horrible conditions, waiting for that inevitable next battle.

But you could get an old man hat! In all seriousness, maybe you should make it so that if you pick it up the playermodel is wearing a fieldcap rather than a helmet. Hardly important, though.
-
It was not a suggestion for realism, just for some in game fun
I also still like to have the carrot nose from snowmen as medic pick up :-)
-
We will only add cigarettes if we get money from Marlboro.

The VK98 on the picture seems to have a magazine portruding from the wooden stock- should it have that, being a single shot rifle?
-
Looking at pictures of the real thing it looks the same. My guess is that they use the same stocks as for vg1 and or others, and they just put a plate there to cover the hole.
-
I think you are right. I checked more photos- there are also different stock variations, some seem to be mostly identical to the K98k and others resemble it but are far more crude and don't have the metal buttplate. The FH2 rifle is clearly of the former type.
-
BTW, here is a rare photo of the Volkssturmgewehr in the field:
