Aim for the rear of the tank always, side shots if you can't.

stay out of sight:Make him look for you if 1st shot doesn't kill

Remember you have stickies as British!, these can help you take a tank down

Only the Vickers, the Cruiser, the Panzer II and any APC when shot in the back will go boom in 1 shot.

The problem is that in the environment of N Africa its hard to flank behind tanks. Anyway most of the time the tank guy will see he is taking damage and will just run away.

But isnt that a defensive victory? You've halted an attack and forced the enemy to retreat. ;)

Heavy tanks, infinite number of shots needed.
Medium tanks, some of these have small weakpoints.  Turret cupola is usually a good one.  ~5 boys rifle hits on a pzIII cupola should have it damaged quite a bit.

Keep moving. You don't have to stay in the same place to kill the tank. Hunt, but don't make it obviuos.
