A short note for those interested in playing FH2 on linux (probably  0.01% of the forum visitors ;)).

I've managed to get FH2 working for online play without getting kicked by Punkbuster. Something I tried before many moons ago but couldn't succeed in.

Using the newer versions of wine (http://www.winehq.org/) it's actually pretty easy, here are the steps I took:

- Get everything you would need for a Windows install (BF2, patches, FH2)

- Get the newest version of wine (http://www.winehq.org/)

- Mount the CD, open a console and navigate to the CD

- Start the setup program
Code: [Select]
..$ wine setup.exe  You should be able to just run the windows installer and install BF2

- Install the patches and FH2 installer likewise using the 'wine' command in console

You should be able to run FH2 now.

Doing this I was able to play, during online play I got problems with Punkbuster though. Here is a work around which works for me:

- Get the 'pbsvc.exe' executable from http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsvcfaq.php and save it inside the 'Battlefield 2/pb' folder. (By default the BF2 folder is '~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/pb' (~ is your home dir))

- Use wine to execute it and reinstall Punkbuster using the pbsvc.exe, some test should run with result that everything went fine

- Run FH2

Note: I used Ubuntu 10.10 and wine 1.2.2.

Be aware that graphic and sound quality isn't anywhere near that of its windows counterpart. I had to use a resolution of 800x600 and the lowest settings to be able to play. When I used Vista on this machine I had settings set on High, 2xAA and a higher resolution.

Sounds are awefull too..

..But hey, it works ;)

Dutch wikipedia
Finish wikipedia
Swedish wikipedia

Nothing more to add to HappyFunBall really..

Do you guys care to elaborate? I'm not quite getting it I'm afraid ;)

But eurm, why not just choose for 'Forgotten Hope: Spanish Civil War'. Might sound dull, but it's straight to the point, everybody will understand and I think it is easier to remember then some fancy Spanish sounding name.

FH meeting at Zeno's place? ;)

"Esperamos Olvidado"

according to Google Translate it is Forgotten Hope in spanish ;)

I think there might be stronger words for 'the Forgotten' which symbolise what it actuall means - as in, those who are alone, those who are without help, those who are on their own etc.

Desamparados

Ok ;) My knowledge of Spanish is restricted to Google Translate.

Reading all those Spanish names I think its better to stick with an English one. Preferably one which refers to Forgotten Hope, as it would be a mini mod.

Where's the "D) don't spawn camp and be useful for the team"-option? Because I would opt for that ;)

I wouldn't go through the hassle of editing partitions or installing Windows on the existing partition. You wouldn't be the first to loose data or the whole Windows partition this way.

Easiest way is to get a Linux live cd Like NTH and I suggested before, I've got good experiences with Ubuntu also. fire it up and copy data to a external USB drive. The easiest, quickest an safest way to get it done.

You don't need to edit partitions, won't need to go trough installing an entire OS with the risk of overwriting things and you can keep your computer case closed (I can imagine you're not to keen on removing the hdd and installing it in another pc just to copy some files).

A Linux live cd even has a nice GUI and these days they handle NTFS file systems quite well (often without the need of changing NTFS permissions).

My condolences. Don't have any words for this sad news :-[

I wish I could do something more, isn't there a foundation we could support? Reading the donation thread (http://fhpubforum.warumdarum.de/index.php?topic=1921.0) there are people willing to support the devs, but they're unable to receive donations.

I would like to donate something in Rad's honour.

so stop being an ignorant fool and start listening to people that know instead of spouting fuck you's.

Do you still have the problem when running FH.exe as administrator?
