127mm naval guns on Omaha
« on: 22-04-2014, 18:04:19 »
Is there any way for me to see what I'm shooting at like when you're in normal artillery?

Since both mouse buttons are for firing, how can I see the target?

As an infantryman constantly getting TK'd by those guns, I'd like to know this too.

I got an ingame reply, it's the X key. Worked much better then.

But another thing, since the 2 guns are a bit apart from each other, they each aim at a different spot. Can we please synchronise them? I didn't quite catch the grip of it yet but it seems a bit weird.

Well, I can only speak for the 16in turrets, but those have an individual crew for each gun. As far as I know, it is the same procedure for the 127mm. In a perfect world, each turret would need two firing officers to operate in FH2.

You mean synchronize the two guns so they blast one spot? That would be inaccurate, imo: guns like that weren't set to fire at one point (unlike for example, MGs on a plane).

Then should there not be 4 places for artillerymen instead of 2?
Because now I can't aim both simultaneously, I can just aim the 1 gun and then hope that the second one hits something less than a mile away, and doesn't TK anyone

This would be nice, would help to give the americans more cover moving off the beach.

Which 16 inch turret?

Naval artillery is not a sniping device. It's good like it is and since you can see artillery spots on the minimap, you should avoid them as an infantryman.

It is very hard to aim the naval artillery because of the big height difference between the water level and the positions on the cliff. On top of that, if you just overshoot the cliffs a little, the rounds often land in the fields behind the trenches, outside of the artillery view radius, which makes it hard to adjust fire. Last but not least, once the americans have gained a foothold in the trenches, it becomes very easy to teamkill with short rounds, since the situation is chaotic and the lines are only metres apart.

So, they might get tweaked?

Similar to tanks being 1 man only, I guess. 4 guys in the ship means 2 less on the beach fighting.

Exactly, and you need as many people rushing the beach as you can on omaha. The naval guns are fine imo. With some practice you can hit the spots pretty well and after a while I'm sure some of the arty nerds will be able to hit them first shot.

ok so you have 96 guys instead of 100 on the beach not that big of a difference.  Plus with good spots those for guys could kill many more germans than a rifle man plus they can provide more smoke to cover the advancing troops.
