More Pick-up kits NEAR flags
« on: 12-08-2012, 22:08:50 »
Can the map makers add more pickup kits NEAR the flags than a random house in the middle of nowhere?
Also, can more pick-up kits spawn with the advancing team? So that people who want to use the support MG wouldn't have to walk a mile to and back?

Besides some Easteregg stashes I think the majority should be near flags too. The problem with the advancing team thing might be that in the end you would have e.g. four MG42 Lafette or something which would hurt the defending team very much (or think of four Flamethrowers).

Although this seems like a good idea on the surface, the Devs appear to have chosen to strategically place kits in a way to adhere to the overall balance of the map.

However, my theory is that advancing armies in the field would need "Supplies" in order to have access to "Kits", so i believe allowing the commander to drop kits in some manner would be a more practical solution.

As seen above, BF2 seems to already have slots available to add a "Kits" drop & "Vehicle" drop.

The "Supplies" code in-game would need to be modified to allow it to do more than act as a flying ammo box an unfortunately im not smart enough to offer a solution.

Well project Reality does have a whole bunch of mechanics that would work great with FH2.

Well, few of them would but most are either too modern or doesnt fit the not-tactical-enough gameplay of FH2

I like the idea with the commander; problem might be that he will only distribute those kits to his colleges :P

I don't think a commander is going to play favorites when his team is being battered to a bloody mulch.

I am against anymore things added for the commander, because i dont like the commander system in general, but adding more kits at Flags is certainly a good suggestion.

I disagree with previous post, commander needs all the new assets as you can possibly think of. However coming up with a reasonable asset that can be implemented is not that easy.

In my opinion giving the commander the ability to provide the team with  the pickup kits in some form is a brilliant idea. The kits I have in mind are the tripod mounted MG's, sniper rifles and flamethrowers for example. They should be limited in numbers of course. This way these special kits can "move up" together with the team without becoming too numerous, which could happen when they spawn at every flag. At the same time they won't become too rare, which can happen when people don't bother to go pick them up at a back flag. The latter is often the case now.

Perhaps the easiest way would be to make them requestable at the supply box, PR style? (You request it near the box using the "T" menu and it spawns under your feet.) Then of course there is the question if this can be implemented to be map specific, so on different maps different kits can be available.

I agree with your general idea. What about 2 different kinds of supply drops though?

1. The normal supply drop we got now already, delivering healing/repair, and ammo for inf as well as vehicles.

2. Another supply drop somehow delivering such pick up kits, heal and ammo for infantry only, no repair to vehicles.

This way you add something to the commander position, and can support your tanks with ammo while you can support advancing infantry with another supply drop at the same time. Right now the boxes are usually used to support tanks or artillery only.

I have just no clue how complicated it is to make kits requestable at such a box. But as the dev team knows that the commander needs some serious rework, they might consider it as an option.

In BF2, the commander is also able to drop vehicles like FAV and buggies to their team using parachute. That makes commander role become more important and actually meaningful.

Can we implement the same function here? Well, without the parachute of course, but more like able to spawn specific vehicles in limited numbers, which should be unique to each map.

And then you get the commander spawning a vehicle for himself, resigning instantly and driving off in his newly acquired hotride...

I'd rather have them paradrop AT guns or Jeeps on specific maps (such as Crete etc.)
This sentence is intentionally left unfinished...
