Battlefield: Korea
« on: 14-10-2012, 18:10:22 »
There used to be this badass mod called Battlefield: Korea;

http://www.moddb.com/mods/battlefield-korea

It's said to be dead for a hell of a long time, but I think it has great graphics and some stuff that FH2 can have. Anyways, has it been ever released? (ModDB doesnt say so, but I know there has been various attempts of testing some mods without the records of ModDB) I mean, doesnt it look so awesome? I still see a great potential in this mod, but apparently the devellopers have abandoned it years ago. Man, I wish it continued.

Any ideas?

what exactly would that be? from the images on the moddb page, I only noticed Arisaka (Pacific's not coming though) and the American bike with sidecar... but all of that stuff appears to be awfully low quality, I'd rather wait for devs to make their own models than have that in FH2

I was a beta tester for BFK. The mod had some really nice models but severly lacked maps. AFAIK they were two guys who made it all but had to abandon the project due to personal reasons and a lack of manpower.
The beta was in a pretty early state, but it was still quite some fun, especially since the Korean War is a rather unknown and little-used scenario in video games.

Well, they could use the PPs43, M1897, the Colt .45  and the Garand animations I found in youtube, the M2 carbine etc....

Also? I contacted a BFK dev and asked a few questions, hope he replies positive.  :)

Yes

i personally would love to see a korean war game
Simply enough for the infantry weapons alone

Look how diverse! WW2 weapons mostly but also those who came to appearance just at the end of WW2!

Well, that beta map was more alpha. Still, very fun to play. And yes, it was basically done by two brothers entirely. They just lacked the time, and in the end motivation, to finish this behemoth. Damn shame though.

Allright, they answered my question. Here is what I wrote:

Hello,

I was lurking throught the BF2 mods page, and I came up to this good looking mod called Battlefield: Korea. Later, I realised the latest activity was in 2008, and people were complaining about this mod not continuing devellopement. So, do you mind if I ask you why did the devellopement end, and will you ever release the files so someone else can continue the devellopement? Thanks for considering.

And here is the reply:

Hi there,

development ended due to stagnation. The working team has never been larger than ~3 people and eventually we ran out of spare time to drag on development. Also we have always lacked members with special skills such as vehicle programming or animation. The other important factor was simply how frustrating development for the BF2 engine was. Our latest beta build was unstable with absolutely no pointer to what was causing trouble.

We've allowed a number of mods to use some of our content, but right now we don't plan to give away just everything we did, eventhough quite a few people have asked. I really don't recommend anyone to try to finish this project or, in fact, start a new BF2 mod project - it's frustrating and you'll have a tough time finding other BF2 mod developers (we didn't even manage to find them back when the BF2 modding scene was big and alive).

Eventually we're going to release our weapon models and stuff like that, I think, but not in the near future.

Regards,
Zefam

Yes sir! I still have the latest build on my computer of BF:Korea. That was the first ever bf2 mod i worked on. and Zefan is a great modeler and texture artist. And yes there was hardly more than 3 developers working on it at the time sadly.
