Title: FH 0.7 with Windows 7 x64
Post by: RangerPL on 23-08-2010, 05:08:36
Hello.

I've enjoyed FH 0.7 greatly on my old computer but once I upgraded to Windows 7, I found that it no longer works. More specifically, it CTDs whenever I try to load a map. I googled it but none of the solutions they have seem to work. I've tried several methods of fixing this problem already:

Windows 98 compatibility mode
I get a CTD when starting Battlefield 1942.

Other compatibility modes
Still CTDs on mapload.

I have the latest video card drivers so that can't be it.

Battlefield 1942 vanilla runs fine, so does Desert Combat mod but DC extended crashes as well.

Please, someone help me. I'm desperate to play this excellent mod once again.

you start with the FH.exe file right ? I think V1942 won't work on win98, but FH should.

I used Win98 compability mode, but DO NOT run as administrator or FH will crash, don't ask me why...
Suggest this site for more help: http://www.pixel-fighter.com/
They run the last popular server and have solution for most problems.

Windows 98 comp mode still gives me a CTD regardless of admin rights and .exe file.

Does anyone know where I can get the BF1942 Compatibility Library besides the filefront thread? The links they have don't work.

My problem is that everyone suggests using Win 98 comp mode but that doesn't work for me.

FH 0.7 is working properly with win7... except for a bad lag experience.

Just set "Compatibility Mode Win 98" + run as administrator

This is the only combination that works for a longer time.

Note: you can play the mod on the mod Secret Weapons (FHSW) without running in compatibility mode.

I reccomend you furthermore to update all your drivers... as this was for some people the problem.

The big problem with FH0.7 and win7 is that your ping will increase by around 100 or even 150.

And just an advise: if you want to play FH1 you should speed up... in around 6 month the last server will be even emptier ;)

The problem is with compatibility mode, I get a CTD at game launch (before the intro video and EA logo shows up)

Did you change your monitor or monitor settings? If so have a look at the video.con in your user profile.
Revert it back to 800X600.

Well, this is what my video.con file says:
rem ** RangerPL **
run Profiles/RangerPL/Video.con

and the file it refers to, says:
rem *** Generated ***

game.setGameDisplayMode 1400 1050 32 60
game.setDetailTexture 4
game.setShadows 1
game.setEnvironmentMapping 1
game.setGraphicsQuality 3
game.setLightmaps 1
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 3
game.setPerformance 3

I changed it to 800x600 and I still get the startup CTD with Win98 comp mode.

The correct setting would be:

game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 32 60

And check if you are not suffering from 60Hz refresh rate bug. Google it up in combination with battlefield.

I managed to get compatibility mode to work!

....but I still get a crash at map start, even in Win 98 Comp mode.

Also I can play vanilla 1942 so I don't think I have the refresh rate glitch.

cant you "just" start bf1942 and then launch fh 0.7 out of bf1942 ?

That makes no difference, because the game will still crash when the map is loading.
