Loading speed
« on: 13-01-2010, 10:01:34 »
Am I the only one with this issue?

Since the latest patch my loading time nearly doubled
Normally I was one of the first on a map after a map change but now I’m just "average"

I run a quad core with 2,3 Ghz and 2 gigabyte Ram

defrag hard disk ?
is gues son patching the files get fragmented a lot since they get unpacked new stuff is added and then packed again with bigger size.

for MOST people a simple defragmentation solves this problem-

Wooah! I was going to post the exact opposite to this post....Since 2.25 has been released I have noted that maps load much faster! I usually had to wait for 15-20s with the progress bar stuck on 65%c. Now it only takes 5-10s to go over that. In my case...congrats to the Devs!

i am experiencing veeeeeeery long map load times. first i got problem #2 and the next time i try to play the load took ages. i wasn't patient enough to wait for the load, so i deleted FH2 stuff and reinstalled 2.2 and patched to 2.25 with no change. tonight i re-installed bf2, patched it loaded mashtuur 16p and quitted. then i installed FH2 2.2, and started crete 16p. it took 25 MINUTES to load the map. after it loaded i found out that at least problem #2 was gone.

after patching to 2.25 it took only 22 minutes to get the map loaded and then kicked by PB due to service abnormality. i could tell that myself, no need for pb to tell me there's some abnormality in here....

it took about 10 mins to load objects, the next stop was animation systems and finally textures at 62% (as usual). after textures got loaded, the load proceeded just like normal.

i'll check the HDD, but i don't think it's that, because everything else works like it used to.

edit: why is that patcher and objexcts_static.zip still running???

you could just do the simple thing of deleting FH2
defraggin disk
then reinstalling FH2 2.2 + fh2 2.25 patch

seems like all i changed was a compatibility mode change from win98/me to win xp. i'm running vista 64bit.
works like a charm now.

Yes, but there are other factors.

Likely the files and datablocks got shuffled over the entire harddrive upon patching. Uninstall BF2 and FH2, defrag, then re-install. Not guaranteed to work, but if its bothering you enough, might be worth a try.
