General / HSlan angled damage change
« on: 31-03-2012, 21:03:17 »
Angle damage modifier has been reduced on HSlan serverside.
This affects how fast damage will dropoff when hitting enemies at an angle.
Anglemod wasn't without compromise. However, the benefits exceed the drawbacks tenfold.
The intention of this is to reduce the amount of shots which do no damage but otherwise should. As illustrated below, hitting this part would previously not do any damage due to the high angle. It should now do some damage, but little especially vs. heavy tanks.

The bad news is this may increase the chances of getting "sideshot the the front".
Technically the value controlling damage dropoff is changed from 1.75 to 1.35.

The change is very sublte, but sensitive. Give feedback on an overall impression, if noticeable at all. Do attempt to differentiate anglemod from network lag or other reasons your hit may not have done any damage. Attempt to glitch, by shooting King Tiger in roof armour etc. and especially do test AT rifles vs. tank turret tops.

Will the new Sig33 also be moveable? Or will it be like a pieceof artillery?
That thing is too heavy. However, unfortunately it must wait until Russia and will not be in next release.

Kev, does this mean there is also possiblility for animation of riding bicycle?
yes.

Anyways here's apic of an operation on stvith didn't make the news update.

General Discussion / Re: STG44: Why so underpowered?
« on: 08-03-2012, 03:03:53 »
seriously, German combat footage of the STG44 invariably shows them firing semi-auto).

Most cameramen probably didn't get into situations where full auto is useful, in close quarters. Very little SMG footage exists too.

Walking animation is basically what you see at the top left of original post. Don't expect nothing fancy really, but worth mentioning.

The effectiveness of mobile anti-tank guns ingame has been limited by issues of stability or sliding, maximum traverse and elevation limits, and general mobility.

For our next public release, these will receive a major overhaul!
Changes include:
- Separation of gunner and pusher. Including a walking animation for the pusher.
- Stability. When gunning, the guns will not slide around.
- Most gunners are positioned better behind the shields.
- Faster pushing, especially on the smaller ones.

Find your AT gun, push it into position, and await enemies!

General Discussion / Re: Guide to using Joy2Key and FH2
« on: 18-02-2012, 19:02:45 »
Good guide. Can you include setup for using the keyboard for mouselook in FH 2.4 ? There is a guide here but it looks old and I don't know if it works with 2.4.

This one was written for 2.4. The arrowkeys for freelook are highly recommended, nice for tanking as well.
Though yes that's all that's needed for hat functions to work, nice guide posted here for additional stuff.

To distribute alternative controls, you may upload your controls.con. Put them in the mods/fh2/settings/ directory, then "reset to default" in controls menu to activate.

1) You get a job; and/or
2) You get married; and/or
3) You have kids.

Actually many of our devs have kids. Also many are married and have jobs. Some even all three. Luckily I have none.

Marder I on H39 chassis ? That turtle have only 27 km/h speed ... no more racing under fire  :P

Can argue its top speed at 37km/h for the H39.
Anyhow ingame it'll be the same as most others.

Many of the older devs are still around, others have gone off with RL.
Major Hartmann coded the initial armour systems afaik. From what I heard, he's now got a job working with Abrams tanks somehow.
Zero is absent atm, though he always returns, typically after 6 months to a year without warning. He initially worked on the Pacific Shores mod which merged prior to FH 0.5's initial release.
McGibs is still around, though not active as a developer, he's gone pro doing graphic designs.

I've recently looked through FH1 airplane code a lot, and it does seem that initially Takiwa set it up. Digging through the archives, there was some rubble around his name, but he ended up on good terms.

FH team is like a rollercoaster ride. Overall we're doing as good as ever.
In some departments, content output is down, in others, its going better then ever.

A small change to make it look more like thermite and less like a flare. One of many small changes you won't think twice over upcoming version.

Suggestions / Re: Faster cocking motion

The semi has its advantage of being less bulky. You can hold the rifle around a corner and fire it, blindfire, basically holding it in any direction you wish without affecting its rate of fire. The real advantage is in close quarters, and it shows ingame. Though there is a great misconception on the effectiveness of bolt action rifles, which I'm sure all you FH players are aware of. An army armed solely with bolt actions will perform overall near the same as using assault or battle rifles, its the artillery and machineguns that count. Though the skill is still more important then the weapon.

More important then the enfield's bolt was its magazine capacity. Had they used removable magazines they could've achieved much better yet. The Garand obviously wins here big time.
In real life there is however other factors. Training is the biggest difference. Also sand in the bolt could cause a lot of friction. Ingame its simple: Enfield: 1.0 second K98: 1.15 second
I'm thinking of some other variations, for carcano etc. Additionally, shouldering the rifle and bringing it down takes additionally 0.2 + 0.2 seconds. I have wished in the past to use sighted in cocking - however as you must cock it before you can sprint again, it wasn't generally favored.
Practical rate of fire of enfield ingame is thus 1 shot every 2 seconds for a skilled player. 0.2 to bring down rifle, 1s to cock it, 0.2 to bring up rifle, + guesstimate 0.6s to make sure pin is on target. After 10 shots which take 20s, +8s reload time. 28 seconds. 20 more seconds to empty another 10 shots. 48s. 12 seconds left to the minute, reload + 2 shots.
So that's on average 25 aimed shots in a minute. Firing it from hip, as fast as possible ingame, can unload up to 40 shots in a minute.

Also another tip, if you hold down the left  mouse button for 0.2 seconds after firing, that's 0.2 seconds longer to cycle.
