Suggestions / Gameplay + asthetic features
« on: 27-12-2009, 23:12:39 »
Seeming as its been said that the Ardennes is being worked on parallel to Normandy; i'd like to suggest that the condesation of breath should be added to the player models in belgium and any other future map set in a cold place. A good example of this can be seen in COD2.
I can't find any good videos on YT of it but it was there and I loved it.
I don't know how smoke effects work in the bf engine but if they are objects which effectivly spawn the smoke, couldn't one be placed inside the player model pointing out towards his mouth?

I don't know if possible in the BF engine, but after big jumps, say from the 2nd floor of a building, could a stubble animation be added? Where the character looses balance on landing after jumping such a distance.

Lastly, When the character remains stationary for a certain period of time, could he be animated to lower his weapon? Moving (W,A,S,D) would bring his weapon back up to a ready position and so would looking down the ironsight.

Let me know what you think. :)

The link to the 2.2 mapping files on Fenring's sticky thread is broken.

Can someone re-upload the files or fix the link. Thanks.

Modding / Making maps for FH2
« on: 22-12-2009, 13:12:20 »
Alright, as some of you may be aware i've tried in the past but been hindered by one minor thing.. I can't get the bloody map builder running :P

Would someone be kind enough to tell me:

Exactly what do I need to build a FH 2.2 map and where to download it.

What order I should download/install them in.

And what process I should do to successfully open the editor to make a FH 2.2 compatible map.

Thanks in anticipation.

Modding / Textures
« on: 22-12-2009, 11:12:48 »
I'm trying to make textures, just general textures not skins. But anyway. Are there any specifications for textures? Sizes? Do they all have to blend together naturally? I'd love to know. :)

Suggestions / New feature for Engineer kits
« on: 16-12-2009, 18:12:42 »
How about a deployable inflatable tank for engineer kits, or for a special engineer pickup kit?

Each engineer would get 1 deployable tank, obviously they would have to lack detail. The engineer would have to be able to pick it back up again as well. While deploying it there should be a delay and while picking it up there should be a delay.

They could be placed behind hedge rows, in streets and basically anywhere else, for both real tactical reasons and just for shits and giggles :P.

Enemy infantry could be detured from coming closer as from a distance they wouldn't be able to tell it from a real one. Tanks could be distracted from a real target in hiding while they attack the dummy target etc.

Ofcourse they would be destroyed in one shot. You could make them repairable as well, perhaps giving the engineer a patch kit which works like the spanner except only on the dummy tank.

Some examples, some of these would have been extremely covincing without close inspection...

And yes the Germans also had a few, ofcourse they were made of wood; making them stronger... GERMAN BIAS

"
DUMMY TANKS
Although German use of dummy tanks in France and Italy has not been extensive, such instances as have been reported make it clear that the enemy is capable of imaginative work along this line. For example, a typical enemy procedure is to site dummy tanks and real antitank guns in such a manner, with respect to the terrain, that Allied tanks maneuvering to engage the dummies will present enfilade targets to the German anti-tank guns.

It is believed that there are no standard German dummy tanks, and that local improvisation is the rule. The reproductions have been sufficiently accurate to look like the real thing when observed from a distance, but have been fairly easy to detect at close range.

Eight non-mobile dummy tanks discovered behind the AH Line in Italy were particularly notable for the realism of their gun barrels which had been constructed from telephone poles, with a recoil mechanism of stiff cardboard and a shield at the point of entry to the turret. However, the general construction of these dummies was by no means elaborate; for the most part, the Germans simply had used scrap lumber covered with tar paper. The turrets were of plywood, but no makers' plates, numbers, or other identification marks appeared on them; evidently the turrets, too, were of local manufacture.

The dummy tank shown in the photographs... was encountered in France, and is a much better job. In the locality in which this specimen was found, all the dummy tanks had wooden frameworks, but were covered with different materials, such as sheet metal, canvas, or wood. The guns on the turrets were lengths of thin-gauge stove piping joined together. One specimen had a gun made from a felled sapling. Evidently these tanks had been prepared in sections, so that they could be transported to tactically suitable points, and assembled there."

SHITZ N' GIGGLES.

KTHX

I hope you think this is a good idea. It is a serious one.

General Discussion / JESUS
« on: 13-12-2009, 00:12:03 »
Has anyone encountered a small group of players with the prefix: JESUS ?

I recently played with a two of them on a server and  they were complete and utter pricks. I was tk'd by one of them 3 times when he ran up to me with his bayonett, killed me and then stole the Sniper kit i had. When i asked who the admin was so I could report him he started playing on a ridiculous argument which went something like this:

Me: Who is the admin? JESUS_____ (can't remember his full name) has Tk'd me 3 times in a row to steal my kit.

JESUS___: What?! No! You've been tking me to take my kit. I havn't done anything. ADMIN KICK JOSH094

Me: Weak argument, all admin has to do is look at scores. (JESUS___ had like -27 points and I had about 40)

Nothing happened, but he was rude to other players; calling a player from Vietkong a dumbfuck and retarded because he didn't speak english, etc.

Then his clan mate (I assume its a clan) started, He ran up behind me near the end of the round and stabed me with his bayonett, then called me Fag.

Obviously delibirate tk's, each of which were followed by a teabagging  ::)

Anyway, just a heads up to you guys, there are a few dicks out there.

General Discussion / Major server bugs?
« on: 12-12-2009, 00:12:33 »
Hi,

Just logged onto FH2 to play a game about an hour or two ago and there were only 7 servers in the list, only one of which was populated (by 5 players) I joined, and more bugs occured: Stamina bar disapeared and all i could do was walk, I couldn't go prone, I couldn't throw grenades or use rifle grenades. Turned out it wasn't just me, other people started mentioning the low server numbers, some as few as 3. They also mentioned the same gameplay bugs. Kit weapons wouldn't kill people, only static/mounted MGs could.

Anyone else encountered the same problems?

Suggestions / Tank effects
« on: 26-11-2009, 17:11:03 »
So I love the tanks, but I think they could do with giving the driver a better impression of power. I like how the screen shakes when you stand next to a tank, but is it possible to make the shake area around the tank a little bigger? Also with the firing effect, somthing like this would be nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usE1tLhiZMU

Now I know what you're thinking. PR?! FFFFFFUUUUUU

But not only would adding this make the tanks firing look cooler, but It could help with the tank vs tank combat, because the drivers view would be obscured by the first shot; possibly resulting in longer battles! :D

General Discussion / US tank markings
« on: 22-11-2009, 20:11:28 »
Hi, I some of you may know I'm working on a large scale M5A1 stuart tank, and, although a long way off of painting it, I have a question about the markings used by the US on armor in Normandy.

What I want to know is; the large yellow lettering/numbering, what divisions used it? Does the Letter represent the phonetic alphabet? When were these markings first applied and when were they removed?

Thanks, if someone can answer this for me it'll be a big help!

Suggestions / M8 howitzer motor carriage

Working on the hope that mobile artillery will one day be fixed, I'd much rather see the M8 howitzer motor carriage than the M7 priest.
