Off-Topic / Re: How to tell my mom I want to be a Marine?
« on: 20-12-2012, 20:12:57 »
Excuse me TMA, but with this point you killed your entire argument.

...Nobody knows how they would deal with killing another until they actually do it. Some are brave enough to find out, whether the outcome is good or bad for themselves.

Are you some kind of sociopath? Do you lack the basic human function of self reflection? I don't need to kill a person just to find out if I can. It's not brave, it's stupid to argument that way.

Sorry dude, but you are sick if you believe that's brave in any way.

I think Time Machine's comment got you a little of track. Nothing Yustax said made me think he joined the Marines to kill people. I agree that only a sociopath would. In fact I believe the USMC, like most other armed forces, does a psychological screening specifically to make sure that is NOT why you want to join.

Oh and Yustax, you are young enough to join the Marines, but physically out of shape? HA HA, somebody moved to the United States and ATE THE FOOD!

Wow two things are really obvious from that video:

1. Drinking and Driving is a major problem in Russia; and,

2. The trees are very weak.

Setting aside my questions about carrying a glass ball into combat with you. How well did it really work in evacuating tanks? Sure it blinds them, but if I am in a tank and the enemy soldiers outside are close enough to throw light bulbs at me, its gotta burn pretty bad for me to open the door and try to climb out.

Ha Ha! I live in the only part of Canada where it almost never snows!

 ;)

That's all for today.

Ok, well this is most likely just an in game screenshot since I doubt he went to the trouble of making anything fancy for this tortuously small pic. So what is that large uneven white area? The only things I can think of are smoke, snow, and clouds.

Also today is the LAST day to have an update in November 2012.

General Discussion / Re: Christmas 2012 - Roer River 1944

I would suggest some sort of target shooting contest, a turkey shoot or a fence with bottles on it.

But then of course, if you give these guys guns, they will use them on each other...

The lack of chemical weapons in World War II is an interesting historical phenomenon. In the years up to the war it was generally assumed that they would be widely used. The military, governments, and the general populations all anticipated aircraft delivering chemical weapons onto the major population centers. But it never happened.

One of the reasons Germany did not use them was that Hitler was always afraid of losing popular support for the war.  Hitler resisted any true understanding of military realities, and it is likely that he really believed the 'stabbed in the back theory.' That was the belief that World War I had been lost because the military had been stabbed in the back by the collapse of civilian moral at home. (In reality the military and de facto leaders of Germany, Hindenburg and Ludendorff, had concluded that World War I had become winnable and informed the Kaiser that he must sue for peace.)

Hitler feared such a collapse happening to him. He wanted, and promised, short quick campaigns. (and at first he delivered). This was why, during the battle of Britain, he forbade the bombing of London without his direct approval. He feared a retaliation on Berlin, which in turn he feared would undermine civilian moral. When Berlin was bombed, he immediately gave a speech intended to bolster civilian moral which basically said, "They started it, so for every bomb they drop on Berlin, we will drop 100 on London."

For the same reason he forbade the first use of chemical weapons. That, combined with the universal rational desire not to see them used at all, kept the weapons on the shelves for the war.

Ok Slayer, had to google that to figure out what you were talking about.

But what if, instead of invulnerable, they were given a very fast re spawn. It wouldn't be 'god mode' but it would still accomplish almost the same result.

Suggestions / Re: Arming distance of PIAT
« on: 05-11-2012, 19:11:45 »
I agree with surfbird. If I am armed with a Piat to hunt tanks and an enemy infantry suddenly comes on top of me, I am going to fire the Piat at him and hope for the best. If it kills him I will be happy, not embarrassed. As for the concerns that it is specifically using it as an AP weapon, lets remember that it comes with three shots, and that the secondary weapon is a pistol.  Not a very useful kit for an anti-infantry rampage.

I understand that getting killed by a Piat when you are infantry is annoying, but common suck it up. The Piat is weak enough as it is, and anyone using as an AP kit isn't going to do much damage.

note edited your post a little to remove some text wallage on my part...

My fault for trying to make two points in one post! Always stick to one point only in forums! I actually edited before posting as it had been an even longer rant ;)

Like most other Canadians, I have little love for the Americans. Still, I think they are unfairly judged at times. Their biggest liability in the popularity contest is their enormous power which they often use to influence other countries to benefit themselves.

Unsurprisingly this offends people. Whether we are the ones being influenced, or whether we are watching the Americans interfere in other country, most of the time it pisses us off.

But I mean common, lets be realistic about this. Do we actually expect a country to have all this power and NOT use it to their advantage. Can you really say, "If my country had this power we would be truly altruistic and never arbitrarily wield that power for our own benefit."

Don't get me wrong, there's LOTS of things to criticize them for. They have always lagged behind the rest of the world, often by centuries. They kept slavery going for over hundred years after the rest of the modern world abolished it. They were the last modern industrial nation to set up a healthcare system. They remain the only modern industrial nation with capital punishment. They also have one the oldest governments on the planet. They are still operating under a political system which was set up in the late renaissance. A Beta version of Democracy as I like to call it. (Still using the electoral college almost two and half centuries later? Are you kidding me!!)

Suggestions / Re: Towable AT, AA, and Artillery!
« on: 10-10-2012, 22:10:32 »
Towed AT guns may or may not have enough value to justify adding them to the game. However towed AA guns would have great value. This has been suggested and discussed to death. But in a nutshell: pilots know where all fixed AA guns are and can do well practiced strafing runs on them which kill the AA gunners before they have a chance to return fire. Movable AA guns would give AA gunners back there most important tools, concealment and surprise.

Of course it would have to actually be possible. As far as I can see, it still isn't.
