General Discussion / Re: RiP ArminAce
« on: 16-08-2021, 12:08:23 »
Heartbreaking news :(

ArminAce and his work set the foundation and mood of Forgotten Hope as a series, a mod that impacted us as players and influenced other games to follow a similar path. But more personally he inspired us as developers and in some cases shaped our careers.

Playing Forgotten Hope in the old days was only fun (and alleviated the frustration from the inaccuracies of BF42) but I never suspected that the community and developers would become as big a part of my life as it did. A second family of sorts. In this family, ArminAce played the role of a grandfather, and for that role he'll be sorely missed by me and many others.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Rest in peace Peter, you will always be part of our team.

I'm somehow still around, playing occasionally!
You should join the discord if you're not there already, it's missing some good old fashioned spamming... ;)

Tactics & Tutorials / Re: Being a "sniper"
« on: 23-08-2018, 01:08:07 »

That's quite a resurrection you did there!
December 2009. FH2.2 was recently out, people were getting used to Normandy.
These forums had just lost their new-forum-smell, after being deployed in March the same year.

I even found a comment made by my 25-year-old self on page 2!
Ah, fun times :)

...

But agreed Tom-at-o! One of the better skills as a sniper is knowing when not to shoot, or to mask the sound of your shot by other sounds like nearby explosions.

Also, fun new fact with the recent patch! Most sniper rifles can now choose between using the iron sights or the scope. Think about switching when relocating for easier aiming in close quarters.

Hehe, fun to see familiar name tags pop up :)

Happy FHday!

Anywhere I can find the featurelog/changelog of that first version?

I don't think we did changelogs back then, but you can look over the Road to Forgotten Hope 2.0 news post:

That's right, It's been 10 years! since Forgotten hope 1.0 was released.

14th of December, 2007

The release news post: http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/news.php?id_news=221

Oh man, I wish I would have prepared something for this, art piece, wallpaper, a song, anything really, but truth is I forgot until I looked at the date today and realized it looked familiar.

It's been 10 glorious years since we opened the North African front for invasion, and what an amazing ride it's been! We've seen additions after additions of equipment, weapons, vehicles, locations and armies. We've seen the Western Europe front open, and countless of tournaments and map packs from the talented community that formed around FH.

After even more vehicles, equipment, armies and locations, and countless of developer commits, we finally released the long awaited Eastern Front, and still the community outdid itself with more tournaments and map packs, and even still people are playing, nigh on 2 years later.

I salute the developers of Forgotten Hope for Battlefield 1942
I salute the developers of Forgotten Hope 2
I salute the communities that have formed around FH through out the years, that have worked unselfishly on amazing tournaments and map packs
But most importantly I salute you, the players of FH & FH2!

Thank you all so much for your participation and involvement with this amazing game/mod/community.

Thank you guys SO MUCH for joining up with us, we weren't really sure of how popular this was going to be, I personally expected to see like maybe 20-30 people join, but you blew me completely out of the water!

I'm going to take a wild guess, but no real promises yet, that we'll be doing more of these later in the future! :)

Watched through the whole thing and I must say the new French German vehicles look fantastic. (especially the SOMUA) ...

Oh man, how did I not make the connection with the SOMUA and the French/German tank.. Yes! there will be renders of it in an upcoming news post! Sorry I didn't understand the question buddy!

Hell yeah we developers know BG42! :)

I at least used to play BG42 a lot, along with FH1, back in the days. It was a lot of fun but something called me to Forgotten Hope more, for some reason.

But I've always got fond respect for BG42 :)

Yes, I've already made a test stream to make sure everything works there. It will be available on twitch and we'll also make sure it's on the FH2 YouTube channel shortly afterwards :)

One day I will contribute to this thread, and it will blow minds (or will it?)

The prophecy shall be revealed. I bet there will be a pink Tutu involved also.

The prophecy shall be revealed..

..in due time, but this is not it :)
As much as you guys deserve to see me dress up in the pink tutu, I don't have it anymore (it got sent to a better home in Sweden)

However I now promise the return of the pink tutu, in some stream in the future, for you guys! :)

Looking forward to tomorrow :)

We will not answer that question until they appear in the news.

Where is your God now?

Something felt strangely familiar with that news anchor, hats off for using an Icelandic news agency for the photoshop (the day I see my wallpaper as an actual news item in the local news, is going to be a very proud pink tutu moment!)

PS.
This isn't the mindblowing post I talked about earlier...  :D

It's worth mentioning to those who don't know about that teddy bear.
One of our developer nicknamed Rad, originally made that teddy bear. Sadly, Rad passed away after a long battle with cancer a few years back and ever after when some of us see that teddy bear, we think of Rad.

We miss you Rad!
