New train?
« on: 10-03-2010, 20:03:42 »
I watched the locomotive vid on youtube again and I thought: why not make another one? Lately, Trumpeter started making BR-86's, as shown. O, if you do make a model of it, don't forget the whistle

How about no, there's more important things, and that was more of a "proof of concept" then anything.

There was one small, armored train with a Pz IV F1 Turret on its top,  with Sloped Armor..

I think it had its own Engine so, yeah.

Then we got a Panhard, wich is capable of going on Railways.

Wich is, in my Opinion, Excellent for Eastern Front.

Quite.  Most, if not all, of the armoured cars that were converted for use on rail ways, as well as the armoured trains that were single cars with turrets and their own engines, were used on the many miles of railroad track of the ostfront for anti-partisan work.

Some Panhards were produced secretly by the French around 1942 and hidden under Lakes or something in Occupied France.

When the Uprising began, most, if not all, were either Destroyed or Captured. The Captured Panhards fought against their old Owners.

Dunno if any of this Panhards saw action against the Allied Forces, but it will be nice to have it.

i agree that trains should be usable and vehicles adopted for the rails.

but how is it when you drive the train or vehicle and the railway just around the next bend is just a crater?

if railways are to be used it should be usable by both sides, trains should be able to transport vehicles and troops, and certain parts of the railways has to be destructible and repairable

I think a way longer train on a strictly straight track would work in maps that have rails from one end of the map to the other -Its terribly vulnerable to tanks ans such as its so long (Although I think only its front-most cabit should be destructible), with the rear ones being wooden to carry troops (Although, with BF2's penentration, mg bullets and HE should be able to kill those inside)

Needless to say, a strafing run could kill alot of people in the rear cabins

A map like Stalingrad could have one in many map versions for getting the troops from a safe point to the front.

For some maps, the rail could stop at a point, so that it doesn't cross the entire map, but simply moves men from the rear to say a frontline base

A new system to aid this will be stops that are removed across the rail so that with each flag capped, the train can move further down the track

I like the train we have as 'proof of concept' but that's really all it is - With its funny outside-sitters. It might as well have been a tank with more seats, greater speed and flexibility of motion.

I would also like trains to have more smoke - I know the risk, but its one vehicle - And it eint the 1940s without it...

plus some trains were armored and armed, just look at the russian trains in WW2 for example, T34/76 guns and KV1s.

this kind of train however should not be on every map that allows trains.

Moving train scenarios don't sit well with FH2 gameplay, map sizes and round times.  Even 4km of space for the track either doesn't give much exposure time or constrains the route too much.

The train reaches its destination in a couple of minutes ... hmm, what about the rest of the 30 minute round?

It travels really slowly to compensate ... becoming an ordnance magnet as well as horribly predictable.

The track is constrained to the map size ... epic fail for immersion, like one of those nerdy model railways.

Not to mention 'tards parking vehicles on the line ... ride over or silly indestructible train smashing through tanks?

Stationary trains as statics or objectives are fine, but moving ones would be little more than a difficult to manage novelty within map scenarios and gameplay.

It can be for propaganda

Well, for one, you have the Russians enter a train at one end of the map
It goes on up to where the boats are to cross the volga... its way out of the way of enemy anything

You have a rail and a train spawns on it once the first three lines of bases are in one factions hands so that that faction can get forces there quickly... while preventing foward bases from being spawn points
