The Last Samurai comes to Total War
« on: 29-11-2011, 17:11:32 »
Mentalmen,
The Creative Assembly have announced a new standalone version of Total War: Shogun 2 called, the Fall of the Samurai. You'll be familiar with the concept if you've seen The Last Samurai: European troops and factions have come to divide Japan between the Shogun loyalists and the new imperialists.

You will be commanding either of these factions and I believe that the Europeans will be playable as well.
Now, as said this will take place in the latter half of the 19th century (post American Civil War), and they have added some new (and deadly!) features. The link below will tell all the information you need to start dreaming up tactics

Pick up rifle, pike and sabre!!

Um, this is REALLY fucking stupid.  The "last samurai" did not fight with pikes and swords.  They fought with modern rifles and cannon too.  Hell, the "samurai leader" depicted in the movie actually wore a western Husser style uniform during the war.

This is just plain retarded.

I don't want Rome 2 done with this direction they have turned the Total War games. Played demo of Shogun, was NOT impressed. I won't even get started on what I think of the empire-napoleon story.
I see were you are trying to reach: "how can a 17 year old kid have such a thinking like this? why doesnt he wants to be like normal teens who whana get rich? and his plan actually makes sense, but is too damn revolutionary and good at the same time than is still doubthfull if it works..." - Damaso

I love Empire and Nappy, but Shogun...I played the game for a week, and literally have not played it since.  It was just plain horrible.

yes well, given the available information, they have been watching 'the last samurai' too often. true, there are historical inaccuries  :'( and they should have kept the port siege for a second version of Napoleon or empire where its full epicness could be exploited at the most, though it sounds rather impressive (the port siege)

Even I'd be interested in Zulu: Total War.

Like I keep saying.  Imperial Total War.  Pick up at around 1750, continue through to 1900.  It would be epic.  Include Japan, China, India, Africa, and the americas.

Used to be a huge fan of the series, not anymore. The Warscape engine looks nice, but they took out pretty much all the TW-trademark features I really liked, and much more that made the series stand out.

This is about as exciting as a piece of grass. Thanks for the update though.
