Ahhhhh Gunsight Shader - Aka #Problem 2

After playing FH2 for 2 days I now have this bug. It happened after I got kicked from a server today for not being in a squad (whoops, forgot), then boom now I have this bug when I zoom.

What can I do? the links someone provided aren't working.

basically all you have to do is:
- delete your old shaders (my documents/battlefield 2/mods/everything in there)
- delete the shader_client.zip/backup files in battlefield2/mods/bf2  and /fh2
- delete any .tmp files

then DOWNLAOD the original BF2 shader_client.zip and the FH2 version of that file and palce them in the bf2/mods/bf2 /fh2 folders

that should fix it.

are you using VISTA / 7 ?
then run in admin mode with windowx XP compability

or

-uninstall FH2
- remove any backup shader_cleint.zip files
- replace the current battlefield2/mods/bf2 shader_client.zip with the original downlaod version of the BF2 file (link above)
- the reinstall FH 2.2
- install upcomming patch 2.25

Yeah, me too.  What I did was I uninstalled everything, deleted everything.  And it didn't work.  So I did it again.  It did work, but I had a cd-key error.  So really this bug is a lose-lose situation.  But just keep in trying, especially with the reinstalling, and you will get it.  Be prepared for some sleepless and frustrating nights.

I stayed up to 5:30 killing myself, just trying to install 2.2 and get 2.25 working.

p.s Am I able to reinstall the steam version of bf2 without having to download the entire thing again?

i shouldnt even tell you how to fix this.
but anyways....
now what you need to do is a bit "complicated" but ive done it a few times and it works.

here is what you need to do:
install bf2 via steam
run the game once
create a gamespy account
load any map in bf2 (online or offline)
make your config
install FH2
now comes the tricky part.
make a backup (rename) of the shader_client.zip file in the steam/.../Battlefield 2/mods/bf2 folder
now copy the shader_client.zip form the battlefield2/mods/fh2 folder into the Battlefield 2/mods/bf2 folder. (this is basically what the FH2.exe does but the steam version cant run & handle this so you have to do this manually)

now the following is HOW TO START FH2 on STEAM
now start BF2 via steam > open the community menu > select custom games an start FH2.
Bf2 will restart with FH2 running. now you can join the servers and the shader issues should be solved.

IF you ever want to play BF2 or any other mod besides FH2 you have to restore the original shader_client.zip file in the steam/.../battlefield2/mods/bf2 folder. !!!

I reinstalled.  Then I changed my bf2 registry thing.  Worked this time for some reason.  And i am sorry Staire I will give you moral support, I know your pain.

This string should be in the registry followed by your cd key:

Well hey, guess what everybody, it happened again! After one day of working shaders, it once again tells me that they don't exist!  I'm so fucking done with this.  Done done done done done.  Apparently fixing the problem only works for one day.

Hey, look, I fixed it.  I manually added in the file.  It worked this time.  Yay.

I encountered this problem as well.  I wasn't able to get the shader files from Rapidshare but I did fix it.  Haven't had any problems since I started using this method:

First, you have to have the original /Mods/BF2/client_shaders.zip in that folder.  If you don't, you need to reinstall BF2.

Now, make a back-up of that file and keep it in the same folder.

Second, reinstall FH 2.25.  Make sure you deleted the .tmp (mydocs/bf2/) and cache directories in your My Documents/Battlefield 2/FH2 folder.

Now with it fully installed, go to your /Mods/FH2/ and make a back-up of client_shaders.zip.

Run the game.  Should work.  When it inevitably breaks again (crashes out), you need to do these three simple steps and you will be good to go again.  I have to do this almost every time I start the game.

1)  Delete the client shader file in /Mods/BF2 and replace it with a copy of the backup (keep the backup NB!)

2)  Delete the client shader and the client_shaders-backup files from /Mods/FH2 (NOT your backup).  Replace with your back-up (just client_shaders.zip).

3) Delete any folders in your My Documents/Battlefield 2/FH2/Cache folder.

This is the batch file I use to automate the process I described above.  Obviously, if you use this, you will have to put in the correct paths to the files and match the names of your backups.  (You create a batch file by opening notepad, putting in the commands, and saving it as "All Files" instead of "Text File" and naming it X.bat.  To run, just double click the .bat file)

Ok so it appears my shaders only work once and then instantly stop working again, meaning I have to replace after every game.

EDIT: Alright so actually replacing the shaders doesn't work anymore.  Fuck.  It appears to be unfixable, and I'm not reinstalling uselessly ever again.

just to be sure
with shaders you mean the actual client_shader.zip ?
if so just download them again and manually replace the shader file as described in the STEAM manual written above.

of course this might  create problems when trying to play something else than fh2 (as described in the steam manual)


btw all you steam users:
once you got everything running as described above you can launch fh2 right through steam, no need to run bf2 first. simply ad the fh2.exe as non steam game into steam.
