Operation Valkyrie

Where Germans talk German!

I liked it, sometimes you can see that they didn't had the highest budget but it's ok. Acting is overall pretty good but sometimes misses the immersive feeling. Good watch though, 7/10.

Mega shark vs Giant Octopus.

omg.  where do I start...

You have to see it to believe it, my simple words will not do this movie justice, it's diabolically awful, I mean really really awful.  But somehow, seeing passed the primitive special effects, stock footage inserts, poor dialogue, grade D acting, I acctually wanted to see the shark beat 9 types of shit out of the octopus.

shark FTW!  < Btw that does nto spoil the ending.

7/10

Band of Brothers
- Amazing production, but a bit one-sided. Too patriotic at times.

Still good, watchable show for sure.

Saw District 9 on thursday.

Special effects are good enough, acting is okay, story is finally something else apart from the old boring "aliens land in the us and launch an invasion or something", has some good ideas, lacks some surprising moments though, the end is a bit too happy, and there is somewhat too much bang-bang-action for my taste and dialogues are sometimes too generic - in one or two parts even hollywood-like. Still, clearly better than almost every hollywood-production.

7/10.

Saving Private Ryan
- I don't give a damn about the story or the historical accuracy,  the action is 12 out of 10. Amazing. Just look at the start of the final battle scene. Spielberg is the man, any day of the week. How somebody can turn a script like that into gold is a total mystery for me.

WW2 Movies recently seen:

Valkyrie -seen onboard Singapore Airline's A380 PTV

Well, i actually slept in the middle, i mean Tom Cruise is pretty boring and he is not all into the character and the tense WW2 atmosphere. But overall, a pretty nice treat for all WW2 fans out there. I gave this 5/10.

Defiance -seen onboard Singapore Airline's A380 PTV

This is quite good, and much better than Valkyrie. More interesting storyline but the guys unfortunately speak accented English (and some Russians). You can see more WW2 weaponry here than in Valkyrie, including the Panzer tanks. 6.5/10 here.

Australia - seen onboard Singapore Airline's 747-400 PTV

Entertaining, some WW2 stories about Japan invading (and landed) Australia's remote islands (fictional). Overall, it tells you a principal story (a bit exaggerated, it's a movie anyway) about Australia, nothing much. I rate it 7/10.

For comparison, i gave Band of Brothers 8/10 and Saving Private Ryan 7.5/10.

Will definitely watch Inglorious Basterds, Brad Pitt despite his many various roles, he always deliver good performance, unlike Tom Cruise, which only suits several roles (surely not WW2-related stuff).

Best movie I've seen this year is Star Trek.  To me, it was a movie that you watched and left just feeling real good, rah-rah good.  Loved it!  Qunito's Spock (plus his little Vulcan triste with Uhura), the dude doing James Tibireous Kirk, Karl Urban's McCoy, Chekov (same guy in the new Terminator) and Sulu all very good.  Actaully saw this one in theatres twice.

Of course I have historical context for all but even if you don't, you will still enjoy.

Also seen:

Watchman - got Blu-Ray
Wolverine - will get Blu-Ray
District 9 - ditto on BR.  I am anxious to watch this again.
Terminator xxxx - BR material 4 sure.

Full Metal Jacket

8/10

Not a 10 because the combat sometimes looks cheesy, awesome acting though. Pity the drill sergeant died! M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

and..

Apocalypse Now..Redux

9/10

Genius movie, one of the best I've ever seen, definately in my top 5. When he gets to that insane colonel it all gets a bit confusing and too much talking even takes away your attention after a while. But all combat is genius, overall acting is also genius. Love some of the scenes as the one with the chaotic camp or trench. And ofcourse the Valkyrie helicopter scene, super classic.

Inglorious Basterds 12/10

WOW, the movie of the year. Better than Pulp Fiction and everything else of Tarentino. Cool acting, extreme violence and nice verdicts. Christopher Waltz in the performance of his live. If you´re political uncorrect, a-historical and have no morale than you will love this movie.
