Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 devblog. You may have noticed that there was quite a pause after the last one, but we are glad to report that we are officially back in business and working hard on the next patch.
Today we have some ingame screenshots of new equipment, as well as a new map to show you.
The first new tank is the Churchill AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers). As the name suggests, this conversion of the heavy Churchill infantry tank was designed to support during engineering operations. To this end it was equipped with a 290mm Spigot mortar, which shot a huge projectile called the "Flying dustbin". The gun was able to destroy bunkers and clear obstacles from a safe distance.
Ingame you can use it to blow breachers in antitank barriers, creating new avenues of approach for the attacking British forces.

The second Churchill conversion is the Churchill crocodile, which mounted a flamethrower instead of the hull mg. This will make it extremely useful for clearing out bunkers or trench lines ingame. The Churchill tanks were made by Toddel.

Both new tanks will be used on an upcoming map by Beregil and Schism-Rvtl, which will be shown in more detail in a later news update. Have fun speculating until then.

Would be the best to link them properly... ala http://imageshack.us/a/img708/9675/f6sz.jpg

oooh my tikky tikker
-
Nicely done! 8)
-
To be honest the Churchill crocodile flamethrower is good for everything in that map.
-
yeah, for example it can easily kill crews of enemy's vehicles. Who will guess what vehicles germans use on this map? ...and most important: which map is it?
-
Should have banned theta.
-
A pre emptive ban would be a suitable measure.
-
Should have banned theta.
I was JUST about to say that!
-
YES, YEEEEEEEES, Church Croc, best thing ever, gonna fry me some teammates with this!
-
"it's always the retard with the flamethrower"
-
I fear no tank
but that
"thing"
it scares me

Really really nice. 8)

Edit: That is interesting...Rvtl not only works for Traction Wars but he also works for Forgotten Hope 2! :)
You mean this, of course ;)
Rvtl not only works for Forgotten Hope 2 but he also works for Traction Wars!
Btw: I don't see him mentioned on the staff page of TW, so maybe it should get updated?
-
By the way, you now can blow up objects now (as seen in picture 3-4)! :o
-
Verrryyy Gooood! Nice to see those tanks coded ingame, and the first flame tank in FH2 8)
And really cool to see the Atlantic Wall static is destroyable and that we can use the AVRE for strategic value.
The map looks like it has a nice feel to it too, very nice and thanks for the dev blog TS
-
Btw.... :o :o You now can blow up objects now (as seen in picture 3-4)! :o
You always could, it's just that it was always underused on the maps. IIRC there was a nice map called Norway that someone (sorry can't remember who it actually was at this moment) made to showcase innovative ways to use destructibles, such as blowing walls in houses (something seen in RO and RO2 btw) and walls in strategic places to create new avenues of attack, and sometimes even entire houses to expose infantry hiding in them. It also featured doors that could be closed, and a working swing bridge if I remember right.
Anyway that's an epic update, thank you for this insight Ts.

What in the world could the map be?
Thanks again Ts4EVER

-
Definitely Gold beach! Unbelievably pumped!!! Been waiting to see the Churchill AVRE in action for quite a while!
What vehicles would the Germans be using?
-
Looks great! Thanks for the unofficial update and the work put into this.
-
Thank you FH devs, you're awesome people.
In fact I just checked, I don't say that often enough:

Aftar all those months, these are so delicious!

A nice little update
...aaaand the speculation began. Gold Beach, here we come :D

Any current official maps, though?

There are closing doors in the airfield bunker at Sidi Rezegh. Wonder if more somewhere.
-
It was possible to destroy wooden plank barriers and fences on some maps in pre 2.45 period. I remember discussion about removing them, not sure were they removed completely though. They were used on Bardia, Giarabub and Operation Hyacinth, probably some other maps as well.
-
You guessed correct Roughbreak.
-
You guessed correct Roughbreak.
"Jolly good show chaps of *roughbreaking* that barrier." :P
-
yeah, for example it [the Crocodile] can easily kill crews of enemy's vehicles. Who will guess what vehicles germans use on this map?
The vehicle comment has me perplexed. Jan may be hinting at some new additions to the mod. The Devs are big into new and exciting game modes as well as unique play features. In 2.45 we saw three new maps, Sidi Bou Zid, Karen, and St. Vith. Sidi Bou Zid has many vehicles unique to JUST that map (Lee, AT half track, M3 Scout Car), and also features the "counter-attack" game mode. Karen also has many unique vehicles (Hardy, Italian tanks) and is a sector-push. St. Vith is the most "standard" of the three, yet also features sector-push. What I'm getting at is that the Devs have taken a liking to including vehicles specific to just that map, and I'd expect more of that in the new release! (Stick with me here)
So on to what vehicles will be on Gold beach. Hmm... NTH confirmed the map is Gold Beach (sweet). The German force responsible for defending the area of Gold beach was the 716th Static Infantry Division, a unit composed of many foreign conscripts (Russian) and other second rate troops (no offense Korsakov, second rate meaning conscripts, not that they are Russian. We all know that had they been proper Red Army soldiers the invasion never would have made it off the beach ;))
The 716th was outfitted with mostly captured equipment, so WHAT IF we saw this reflected in the game? on the Wikipedia page for the 716th division we see a photograph of this tank, which looks a lot like the new Marder on Goodwood.
Compared to:
Caption reads:
Littry ; one 4,7 cm Pak (t) Panzer- Kampfwagen 35 R (f) abandoned. This is an anti-tank gun Czech tank chassis mounted on French Renault R35. He belonged to the Schnelle-Abteilung 517 of 716.ID ; 20 June 1944.
So seeing as how this Marder is already in game, and features an open hull which would make it very vulnerable to the flames of the Croc, (remember, Jan alluded to it being easy to kill the inhabitants of the German vehicles), I would guess that this Marder is on the map. Or at least if not that exact tank, maybe other captured/converted vehicles.
Am I onto anything here Jan & other Betatesters? Or am I just jamming my head further up the ass?
-
Am I onto anything here Jan & other Betatesters? Or am I just jamming my head further up the ass?
Well, it wasn't really hard to guess but I'm still impressed. Germans use marder on this map but not the one you've posted ;)
-
I smell a new model! :D

-
Bah, this thread has no creativity...
Oh yes, this might be a surprise for the tiny Croc! ;D
-
The vehicle was allready shown in a news. Really not that hard to guess, as there are not too many Marders to choose from. But this one will be a nice change from the regular Marder gameplay for sure. ;)
-
"Wasn't that hard to guess..."
For the first time in my life I finally do so good FH sleuthing and actually come up with the right answer and this is all you guys give me... ;)
Looks real cool though, can't freaking wait for this map.
Thanks for the updates FH team!
-
Yes I remember now... Kraetzer put a post in a thread containing nicely done Marder IIIs, with nice camos. :)
Forgot where it was now... ??? I think it was in the conspiracies thread.
-
What about vehicles section on the main page? It was shown in the news update not in the conspiracy thread afaik.
-
It was shown in the news update, and later on Kratzer posted an image of 3-4 marders with different camos he made on the Conspiracy thread.
-
Oh yeah I remember that, I think it was in Conspiracies thread too.
EDIT: Found it, some sexy camo there.
-
Oh right, I forgot about these. So let's keep a little conspiracy here, which camo do you guys think this baby will use on this map? Which one fit the best in your opinion?
-
I say either the one with the green dots or the green lines. They seem to look like they would match the normandy country side best.
-
One of the two in the middle. Or both?
-
there is either only 1 in the middle or there are 3 in the middle, make up yer mind
-
Oh, didnt scroll over to the 5th one. I always see the camo of second from the left on 1944 Hurtgen-style maps, so I guess it might be the ones except winter, Hurtgen and desert camos
-
I say 1st for Belgium, 2nd for Normandy, 4th and 5th for Eastern Front or 5th for Belgium too.
The 3rd Marder, numbered 111 was stationed in the Netherlands on 1945 with 346th Infanterie Division, according to this source.
http://www.tamiyausa.com/articles/building-and-painting-the-marder-iii-m-31?category_id=8&type=article
Also fought in Normandy:

-
Interesting, I'd always think of that camo pattern as usual in the Italian front
-
Now you mention it, the 5th Marder would fit in Italy
-
Ah yes thanks Mcgee. ;)
I would probably say that 2nd to the left one. 8)
-
little little marders together
no match for 11KG of pure explosives!
-

“See those two houses? The one in the middle is mine.” — Jimmy Carr on confused Welsh accent (YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj59OB2_Bcg)).
-

If you say so. But better hit with your first shot, otherwise be prepared to get your butt raped by those cute little Marders. It takes a shitload of time to load the next 11kg. And it will not be that easy to get your 40t out of the line of fire.
-
indirect fire baby, u boys be dead ;D
-

Pfff, 240mm is just brutal, I prefer something with more...finesse, like a flamethrower for example.
Not even gonna scratch those marders!
-
was it common for germans to mix the camo patterns like on that 4th marder?

290mm*
-
240 or 290mm, that 11kg of explosives are good only for destryoing statics from a safe place. Show your slow fat ass and I will be happy to hunt you down with one of those marders. My MG42 will finish you off while you will try to bail out your green coffin.
-
You do know that 11KG will even wreck a kingtiger, right?
Know ISU? the 152mm Tank destroyer? who used HE shells to simply rip a turret of a panther tank? Thats 5.9KG of high explosive firepower
This is nearly double
-
Did I say it won't? Let's cut it before you'll even start another discussion of how superior is this or that as long as it is allied. Both vehicles have their obvious advantages and disadvantages. Next time read my post as many times as you need before you will understand it but never reply it before, please.
-
240 or 290mm, that 11kg of explosives are good only for destryoing statics from a safe place.
In this sentence, you implied that the 290mm mortar will only have effect on a static target. Thus i replied the devestating properties it has. In wich you make a post, specifically designed just to make me look like the fool here.
Next time, you read your OWN damn post first before you start making a discussion, eh?
-
I thought that your knowlegde about all of this stuff is enough for you to know that Churchill is so big and slow that it can be hunted down really easy by faster tank hunters. Now add to that the fact of having only ONE SHOT of super heavy shell which drops down like a stone before a very long reload time (fortunately it was impossible to make this gun be reloaded from the outside of the vehicle only like in real life). Sorry for not mentioned these as an examples which make it close to useless against mobile targets.
EDIT: Holding explosives powerfull enough to take down a king tiger doesn't mean that you will ever be able to use them against it. You need to move close enough and fast enough to make a clear shot first.
-
You forgot to mention that the AVRE range is only like 140 metres.
-
Doesn't matter for Theta. It is far superior to the Marder wich can kill it from over a kilometer. ;D
-
ooooh you boys need to be more worried off the crocodile lurking in the swamp ;D...
that is
...that there is a swamp nearby
-
Since when are updates in the developer blogs and not in the announcement section? Totally missed this.
Nice update. What´s the reload time on the AVRE?
-

Nice update. What´s the reload time on the AVRE?
It's not the new habit, if that's what you mean,. This is an exception and I believe it was because of something technical with renders.
Reload time is long. It feels like a few minutes.
-
I got to that update via Facebook. So, there’s a use for that.
-
On the topic of destructible environments:
One of my favorite features of FH1 was the destructible barbed wire fences on Omaha Charie Sector. It looks like we're getting some additional obstacle-clearing functionality with the AVRE. Any chance we'll see more of this type of gameplay in the future? (No I'm not asking about an Omaha map, I mean the destructible key items like beach walls, etc.)
-
I don't get what this obsession with Omaha is, I mean it's just running and dieing all day.
-
I don't get what this obsession with Omaha is, I mean it's just running and dieing all day.
Beach Assaults are cool imo. 8) Not like the Gold Beach beach assaults where the beachhead is already established but like fighting to get the beachead. I had the same obsession with Tarawa in FH1 (that was such a badass map).
-
Yeah, Tarawa as one of my favourite pacific maps. Would be great to play it with 128 players someday.
-
I don't get what this obsession with Omaha is, I mean it's just running and dieing all day.
I was merely commenting on the gameplay feature of destructible obstacles, using Omaha Charlie Sector from FH1 as an example. I was curious if there were any plans to apply that to other maps in the future, I think it's a pretty neat feature. So, any thoughts of where else this could be applied everyone?
I can explain at least my personal feeling towards Omaha, but I think we'd agree that's not the point of this thread.
Yeah, Tarawa as one of my favourite pacific maps. Would be great to play it with 128 players someday.
Spot on. I absolutely adored Tarawa. I would give anything to do a full 128 match there.
-
Wasn't the AVRE on a custom map somewhere? One of those Italian maps?
-
Wasn't the AVRE on a custom map somewhere? One of those Italian maps?
Yes, Garigliano Crossing. Did it work on that map?
-
Yeah it was awesome. Not sure if it was FH2's AVRE though? Or a custom one.
-
Yeah it was awesome. Not sure if it was FH2's AVRE though? Or a custom one.
Most likely FH2's AVRE as it was in the files for a long time now but never used on any official map.
-
It was coded with the SU152 gun though IIRC.
-
It was coded with the SU152 gun though IIRC.
Does that mean it could lob that Spigot more than a mile?
-
No, it was firing 152mm HE shells from invisible SU152 cannon "mounted" in Churchill turret. Spigot wasn't codded at all.
-
Damn shame. Would have been fun, dropping dustbins on unsuspecting enemies.
Ah well, now they will at least know what's going to hit them...
PS: there goes a thousand!
-
Ts4EVER can we see more pics?
Like a mini-map or the beach area?
:-*
-
God damn, can't wait to use the SU-152 then!
-
Ts4EVER can we see more pics?

Pics of the map and minimap can wait until the news update I think.
-
I don't get what this obsession with Omaha is, I mean it's just running and dieing all day.
I think it must be because it was the turning point of the war. Many people think it was the involvement of the Russian, but all they did was dying.
No it was the Murricans and the Union Jack that saved the day.
-
Almost ranted about that first sentence, NTH. Then I read the rest. Well played.
-
After playing the map a bit, from a player's perspective, the map has shaped up nicely and is visually pleasing. Running around, you think 'quality'.
Should be some really intense gameplay with Brit's on the attack.
This of course is just the tip of a very large iceberg that the 'FH2 Titanic' is about to crash into.
-
Ohhhh, Watchy getting poetic this time around. I couldn't have formed the words better. ;D
-
Which map? How does one gain access to it?
-
By beta testing?
-
Why don't you hold a open beta test like the big boys? You'll never have enough in-house databesters to test the new patch and maps thoroughly.
-
Which map? How does one gain access to it?
Bring the FH2 dev team a shrubbery
A nice one
Not to expensive tough
-
And then cut the largest tree in Hurtgenwald Forest
... With a herring.
-
I will fucking do both of those things. Consider it done.
-
Don't say that word! The word they cannot hear!
-
You have to do the cutting of a tree by herring tough, under MG 42 and bazooka fire
-
Fantastic work! Looks amazing. 8)
-
Where details about the upcoming Eastern Front? Where are the new blogs?
We are tired of waiting. Our community is dying!

Oh the drama

No news on the eastern front I'm afraid, but the next version is closer than you might think ;)

Well, we get another British map and the Churchill Crocodile amongst other things, so I am certainly pleased already ;D .

We are all waiting for details on the Eastern Front.
And I'm waiting for an update on your Pegasus Bridge map :D
