This could be your problem. A little while ago I had a problem when launching BF2 (FH2, PR, etc) it crashes at start-up.
The fix was to go to "video.con" file in your documents (in Battlefield 2 and FH2 folder). Then change the "800x600 60Hz" (I think) to "800x600 70Hz".
This solves the screen from crashing because before the resolution made it choke.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one alone here that had that problem, and still not sure if that is your issue Rawhide.
