Formula 1
« on: 29-03-2014, 02:03:54 »
Searched a bit and discovered we do not have a thread about F1.. So here it is then.

Been a light fan for years but this year with these regulations got me hyped. Lots of people seem to dislike the new turbocharged V6 and while the sound is meek I think they are pretty damn cool.

Tried to get a ticket for Spa this summer but just check out those prices, 250 to 450 Euros. Bit too much a student for that  :)

Anyways, with Malaysia on the go as we speak, any more hidden F1 fans on this forum? What are your thoughts on the new regulations? Favourite driver/favourite team?

Meh, not much of a fan, F1 is pretty much the worst motorsport ever (well, maybe apart from lawnmower-racing) which is very funny considering it's one of the most advanced ones, too goddamn boring, stupid regulations, more stupid regulation AND surprise, more stupid regulations. And here I was thinking reduction to V-8s was ridiculous.

Yep, with Bernie on top, it makes the whole thing looked like multi-million dollar Pro Wrestling sport.

Anyway, still rooting for Jenson Button and Kimi here.

^ Had to look that up. They sound like WRC cars right now. Not that I dislike that sound but that totally not is Forumla 1 for me. V12 and V10 sound like Formula 1 and V8 is ok too but V6 turbo? I don't know.

I'm not watching, but I found it very interesting to read about the new engine types. The old kinetic energy recovery system provided additional 60kw for 6,7 seconds per lap, the new system provides additional 120kw for 33 seconds per lap.

I wonder whether that makes the race a bit more diversified with lots of passing maneuvers. Watching the cars simply drive in circles is so boring.

I usually imagine my own sounds with it, like `tjunk, tupdieyupdiedee` aaa enemy spotted, ratatatataboom

New engine sound = Death of F1 for me.

Seconded. They sound absolutely horrible!

They should have supercharged inverted DB603 engines. That would make a lovely familiar noise, if you know what I mean... ;)

New top speed at Malaysia today was 320 km/h by Bottas, which is 20 faster than last year. Bitch about the engine all you want, that and the new KRS makes it faster.

No dumb restrictions would also make it faster, probably even more.

FIA is made of a bunch of buffoons but some of these rules keep it fresh. I wont waste minutes typing a big rant on why the majority of the rules are good but every time they make a major change like with the engines there's a new big challenge for the constructors as well.

Raikkonen for no.1 tomorrow I hope.

Well, they unturbocharged the engines before, it makes the race rather boring. Then they introduced KERS and DRS decades later, but nothing changed, Vettel still dominates the race. Hopefully, this new regulation will end the Reich's rule.

Oh yeah Kimi's up to good start, I hope Ferrari's new engine is getting more and more reliable.

I loved it as a kid. But all the rules and technical additions and everything, I don't know. IT feels like F1 is kept artificially alive more and more. I never really liked that there is not much overtaking, all is tactics about the fuel and sometimes tire strategy. So I watch it when it's on and I'm at TV, but it's not like I'm getting in front of my TV every Sunday noon anymore, like it was some years ago. Most of the points I brought up were always typical for F1, so I don't really know what killed it for me.
