However, if I'd knew how to get the interior panel away, I'd replace the speaker myself...
The problem with removing interior trim is not knowing what sort of clips/fasteners hold them in place. Many will come out by simply pulling on the trim in the right place, while others need to be turned like a screw.
- Are there any big do-it-yourself car wreckers nearby?
Ideally, if you can find the same model at the wrecking yard, you can do a practice run on that.
- If not, try and find a factory manual
* for your car.
Probably means you'd have to buy one, although FWIW, my local public library has factory manuals for most popular makes and models.
- Failing that, just have a go mate, but be gentle!
Get your fingers (or a screwdriver) under the edge and try lifting/levering the trim. If it just flexes, you are too far away from the clip. If they are of the type that just pop out, and you lift/lever next to it, it shouldn't require that much force.
The main thing to remember is,
if the trim is flexing to the point where you think it'll break, you're doing something wrong and need to change your angle of attack.If you're really lucky, it'll be one of those bits of trim that's locked into place by other pieces of trim, and by the time you get the original piece out, you'll have dismantled half the interior...
*= Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the handbook that came with the car or a service manual, but a proper factory manual. They're usually a couple of inches thick at least and they tell you how to do everything.
