We don't want to be on Steam even if we could do it, for reasons I can't reveal here.

we dont ?

well in any case only people who bought BF2 via steam could use this option anyways

and i guess like 90% of FH2 player dont have bought bf2 via steam.

while red orchestra hour is mostly marketed via steam. and i think it REQUIRES steam to run.

Are you sure, I bought Empire Total War in the store, and play it through Steam.

For my part I would support anything that increases the player base, but apparently the devs have their reasons. (Which, strangely, they do not want to share with us.)

It seems ot have been something discussed so I'm certain its a good one

Besides, not to make this a FH servers discussion, but FH2 is happy with its player base - I've had games with countless smarktards who TK for fun and blow you up if you are the commander and use the radio etc - I tell you, its terrible...

I'd prefer a player base that creeps up slower based on game quality than one that suddenyl pops out of nowhere due to sudden strategic exposure, but hey that's just me...

But to return to the fact, I'm sure the devs have a good reason - And I'm sticking to that

we dont ?

nope. I have talked to the DH guys and the deal that the developers of red orchestra did with Steam will never happen with BF2.
We want to develop our mod our way, and own our content.

As far as I know Steam doesn't own your content ... it's just a method of distribution. Honestly, given the issues I have with finding decently populated servers at good times for me in the US, I'd be open to anything that would infuse players into the mod.

then you know wrong. The deals you need to go through to get your mod on Steam is first giving away all your content to the publisher of the game you mod (in our case EA), and then they need to quality check your content (no one at EA has time or interest in doing this for any BF2 mod) and after that Steam will host it, but still be in control of how often the mod can be patched. Neither EA or we want this so, end of that story right there.
FH2 will never be on Steam the way Insurgency or Darkest Hour is.
In the case of EA, I am pretty sure they have a long list of real games they have made, that they rather work with to get on Steam before some minor mods.

Then FH2 would become a really small mod, alot of content will disappear  :P

Apparently, the guys at Valve/Steam have never really understood the idea behind mods.

The alternative is that they do understand it very well, but since DLC is so much more profitable, making fanmodding too difficult for Steam releases is so much more attractive.

Steam has to protect itself in such a way. Imagine all the malware people could smuggle into mods if they'd refrain from stringent QM measures. Since they distribute the stuff, they are also liable for the content.
In all I can't blame them.
We could try a bit more PR in North America though.
