Both cats that I've ever had as pets in the family were orange females, which is supposedly rather rare for domestic shorthairs.  My old cat was intelligent but anti-social outside of a few people, my current cat is very playful and sweet but a huge ditz who constantly rolls of tables and such.  I love cats.

Good that you adopted from a shelter VM!  My mom volunteers at a local cat shelter and sometimes I go too, to help get kitties adopted.  Fortunately it is also a no-kill place now.

Actually, he learned in seconds.  When I introduced him to it, he didn't know what to do.  Then I raked my finger nails on it.  He immediately copied me, and figured it out then and there.

I have had about 30 cats in my lifetime and believe me, they come in all kinds of colours.

Remember, they eat when they want to and drink only fresh water. If you are really concerned, just turn a housetap to a trickle or leave the toilet seat up and make sure his water bowl is changed 2 - 3 times a day. (clean dish but no soapy taste/residue)

You can also try a bowl of milk or cream but only served chilled and in a clean dish.

A great tip to prevent them from scratching up stuff that is verboten is to firmly squeeze their paws when you catch them until the cat freaks out a bit and tries to run away. (they will learn quickly, even the stupid ones)

And don't worry about the cold, they (cats) get sick like humans do. if the animal goes away to hide (I mean really hide, like under the hot tub or in the attic away from reach), then you need to worry because cat's can sense doom. As long as they are social, you are A-ok.

Actually, at first, he WAS hiding, in the bed he had under a shelf, very secluded.  He went there when we first brought him home, as a hidey hole, and then started going there a lot, and when he got sick, he refused to leave unless we picked him out.  The vet said we caught it early, but that there still was a chance of it getting serious, as he had a very high fever (he had 100.5 when we adopted him, and 103.5 when we brought him in).

The good news is, he's eating now, drinking, and is being social.  He slept in my bed with me all last night, and this morning ate some food and drank.  So he's at least feeling better.  Still gotta continue antibiotics and probably water syringes if he doesn't drink enough, he has yet to use the litterbox since saturday night.

 I meant really hide Mudra,

Like in a church belfry, 100 feet from the nearest human.

it's good you took him to the vet, follow his advice but remember this is an animal and most Vets don't know what to do other than give them another shot and wait for improvement.

The animal kingdom is tough and any housepet that makes its' way into our homes has got a much better life than they could have had anyways. Circle of life yadda yadda yadda...

Good to see you got a new cat vM, we did the same when our cat died.

Also: had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday under complete narcose. Now going about with a fowl taste of blood in my mouth. Benefit: ice cream for dinner. Drawback: pain, big pain killers, and mouth wash strong enough to blow your socks clean off

You are going to love when you graduate to solids.

I remember getting home from wisdom teeth removal and going "yeah, I'm pretty hungry, I'll make some top ramen!"

Maybe 5 minutes in, I was hardly able to eat any at all, and my top ramen had turned pink  ;D

I only had two wisdom teeth and they weren't impacted, I was pissed that I had to get them out in the first place.  I was able to eat solids the evening I got them out, but I convinced my mom to let me stay out of school for a few more days haha.

I have 4 wisdom teeth, and one (lower left) is impacted.  Visiting the dentist in a week or so, last time I saw him, he said it could wait since it causes me no pain.  Probably will end up with it removed though.

If it does end up with removing, just hope for a good anaesthetic guy. I have had 3 removed under full narcose, I was K.O. in 5 minutes.

Had them removed some 2 years ago, but didn´t get full narcose. The actual process was okay, the only thing that was weird was that, even though i felt no pain, I felt the pressure in my mouth. Very freaky feeling.
The time afterwards was bad, though. I was on pretty strong pain killers, my face was swollen, I constantly had the feeling of blood in my mouth and wasn´t able to eat much.
On the plus side the army paid for it and I had around two weeks of sick leave. :D
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,

Yea, have bad memories about that. Got them removed 3 years ago and it went quite bad for me. Had a full narcose and when I woke up I felt really bad. Had all the pain you guys ahd as well probably, but something went wrong.
The doc accidently stimulated one major nerve, which led to a the nerve being damaged. I had a numb feeling at the right half of the chin due to that. They said the sense is gonna come back, but it's numb until today ;) It's not totally numb and I got used to it. When I tip with my finger on it I clearly feel the impact but it feels weird. But as I said, I got used to it and it does not really bother me. At the beginning it was quite weird and disturbing though.
