If you look at some software's EULA, you too can't display games like Flight Simulator to the public even for promotion purposes that might help the game's sales.

For music and movie, they are also not for public consumption (stated clearly in any legit DVD movie opening screen/back cover). I don't know if what siben says are true, but, I guess it is. Different rates could apply for public usage, and special permissions is needed as well.

Here is the price list if you want to give a party. The left shows the entry fee that you ask, the top is the space (in m²) of where your party will be, the rest are the prices.

http://www.sabam.be/sites/default/files/Nederlands/Utilisateur/Musique/Tarif/De-temps-en-temps/tarief_nl_af_en_toe_105.pdf

So example, if the place that your party is is 600m² (or 30 x 30 meters) and you ask people to pay 5 euro, then you have to pay the criminals 304.84 euro, if you don't ask it in time then add 15% If you fill in the form wrong, add 40%.

If the price of your drinks is more then 1.40 euro, then the difference is added with the entry price and can get you in a higher scale.

Out of curiosity I've read about this SABAM thing on wikipedia. This one bit was Quite interesting

In March 2012, SABAM threatened several libraries in Belgium, attempting to extort an annual fee from them for allowing volunteers to read books to small groups of children.
This is just ridiculous.

German GEMA works exactly like that. For example, when we held a concert for school or a party to raise funds for our graduation ball we needed to pay them a huge amount of money and file paperwork like we were trying to import nuclear weapons. And this in the same country where we could just pick up a license to sell hard liquor for a few bucks.

I wonder if Beethoven, Bach, Goethe, or maybe Michelangelo and Da Vinci gave a lot of ratass about license like today's whiny copyright crazy artists.

For me, as long as the guy mentioned my name on the credit, I'm happy.

In India, all you have to do is to burn a CD put it in a disc player and press the play button because nobody gives a f**k. Best system ever.

No they didn't, but they were paid for their work by wealthy individuals and autocratic leaders, who could not buy and multiply copies of their work.
