The "Fans of Hockey" Thread

All things hockey here. Whether it be college, NHL, or international*, it all goes here. I know hockey is a sport that is widely enjoyed between both NA and Europe (unlike soccer/football), so perhaps we can get some good discussions going.

On the first order of business, the college I attend (Western Michigan Uni), a [US] Division I hockey school, who is also ranked 8th nationally, is taking on a school from Minnesota who is ranked 42nd nationally, and while hockey games can go either way, I fully expect this to be a swift defeat of the Minnesota team.

On another note, for our American members, anyone attending the Winter Classic in Philadelphia next month?

*sorry Europe, I do not know what your big hockey leagues are called

Tonight I will work late, then drink some beers and play some Day of Defeat (Half-Life 1) with some friends and then at 02.00 in the morning we will watch Sweden vs Russia in the U20 World Championship, before that game there's Canada vs Finland fighting over the bronze.

But hey, what's a bronze medal?  8)

yes, that and this

Btw, shootouts should not be used during medal rounds.   Just my opinion of course.

Missed the semi-final game cause, as usual, I was too busy with domestic stuff when I got home from work to turn on the TV until it was over. Kinda glad I missed it it. Oh well the gold-medal final streak is over. At least we lost to Russia. I figure if you are going to lose, lose to your arch-rival.

#8 seed Western Michigan (my university) takes on #1 seed Minnesota-Duluth in a two-game series starting tomorrow. Friday's game will be televised on the new NBC-sports network for any Americans reading this thread.

EDIT: puck drop at 19:35pm for tomorrow's game

Sweden vs Russia playing right now, 2nd half and Sweden is constantly hammering the Russians with shots (17 -3 in the first) and now it's like 30 - 5 in the 2nd half!

Still, I think Russia will not break down. Sweden will have to turn up the heat even further to win this.
