37mm ammo
« on: 27-08-2011, 19:08:39 »
So
2.4 patch removed special ammunition from tanks..Amongst them was 37mm APC
I think it should be back. Its not really "special" since its not tungsten-core, and it was fairly common.
It would give vehicles armed with it a chance to defend against heavier tanks, and with current angle system it certainly wouldn't make it OP.
I don't know how common were they with M8 Greyhounds, but i think it could also use it, especially on Bulge maps.

Second thing is 37mm Canister shot.
Right now its pretty much useless, because it shoots small amount of pellets, and has high spread.
Increasing the number of pellets would make it a lot more useful (and make it more historically accurate).
WARNING!
Assholes are closer than they appear!

Seconded

Special ammo should have been removed from Sherman 76 and most german tanks. But not the 6PDR on Churchill or APC on stuart. Unlike the HVAP, this was pretty common ammo

And the allies pretty much need all the firepower now that they can get

I second the canister shots! Right now, a regular winchester seems more powerful

Gotta agree, the canister needs a lot more pellets with more spread to be any more useful than the MG.

I tried to shoot down a plane with it and even after a couple of good consistent hits, it wasn't even smoeking  :-\

After googling around some, I found this thread! Anyhow yes, it seems that 37mm, as well as most other allies projectiles, had their AP replaced by APC or APCBC starting in 1943. For the 37mm, this gives it an extra 10mm penetration.

Uncapped AP was used for training only in 1944 from what I've gathered. However many are also mislabeled ingame, statistics for an AP shot may be taken from an APCBC, especially true for German tanks.

Edit:
In addition, tungsten wasn't used by Germans except special cases post 1943.

Yea, the PaK36 is at the moment practically worthless on every map it's on. Sure, you can take potshots at infantry with HE, but firing at a tank only serves to attract unwanted attention.

Speaking of Churchill, just put the AVRE with its Gun'o'Doom ingame already so we can hear cries of ALLIED BIAS. ;D

Meh, I don't care for bias and that kind of talk BUT PLEASE, an AVRE IN FH2? That would make my wettest dream come true (just like the sturmtiger ^^ )
And wasn't there some kind of a shaped charge that would be muzzle loaded onto a Pak 36? I think I've seen somethink like that in some recreation footage.
