I agree with many others here that 762 is a big part of the problem. They hold the reins to the only big server which means they have nearly all the responsibility in maintaining a good gaming experience ... except that it seems they couldn't give a shit about it.

Random server disconnects that often result in a 16 or 32 player map being started up after the crash (resulting in horrible spam that confuses and frustrates players), a seemingly-complete ignorance to listen to what people in the server want to play map-wise, infamously bad adminning that is notorious for kicking players who simply kill 762 members or for banning the wrong players, and a complete lack of understanding what maps to run at what times of day. Oh and don't even get me started on the lack of team swapping to keep stacking from happening (which results massive steamrolls of one unlucky team map after map). These are absolutely basic levels of incompetence.

Granted, it's not all 762's fault. One issue is the inherent difficulty of the game, and the jedi-like skills of those who play it religiously. Just to put this in context, I have been playing FH2 ever since release. Before that, I played FH1 since the 2nd year of its existence. I have all of this experience, this veterancy, and yet I sometimes find the game to be incredibly frustrating if I haven't played in a couple of months. This is exacerbated by my bad ping, since I'm playing in the US -- though this is nothing new and I've grown accustomed to loosing 70% of close quarters encounters. The game can feel incredibly unmerciful and scary -- especially if you're not in a good squad. And let's be honest: most of the time you're not in one unless you are one of the aforementioned jedi masters and happen to know everyone on the server.

SIDENOTE: Oh and a side note for veteran players out there including myself: you all can't be expected to play worse to make the game easier for others (herp), but jesus guys -- stop stacking the goddamn teams. It kills player morale (and player numbers) when one team steamrolls the other map after map because all of the FH2 faithful are stacking them. Nothing kills any sense of teamwork or sense of fairness when this happens ... and it often results in the sever emptying pretty damn fast. /SIDENOTE

All MP games involve the frustrations of new players getting owned by experienced ones, but it's made tougher in FH2 by the simple fact that this is a game that is so unique in its quirks -- the movement, gun handling, animations, slow pace of play, complex maps, vehicle handling quirks, glitchiness of the BF2 engine (plus the extra clunkiness created by 150+ ping), all combined with insta death that can come from any bush or window, combines for a potently frustrating experience for the initiated. Of course, a number of the things I mentioned in that list are "good" things -- they add to the fun of the game, but they also increase its learning curve.

I'm not placing blame here. It's inevitable that a game with a small, loyal player base is going to have a massive skill gap between its oldest and newest players. I'm simply pointing out a fact. That said, there are certainly things we can each do as veteran players to make FH2 a more welcoming and less frustrating experience. I'll list them in a later post, though I think you all are on the right track in coming up with some obvious ways.

Because it is. It can be made wartime, and never used, or used and then refurbished and put in the arsenal.
Most russian weapons that you buy are in perfect condition. Not a dent or a scratch.
Honestly that one looks like it was refurbished by a past owner. It appears to have had the shellac removed and replaced with some kind of oil finish. Looks nice but isn't consistent with the Russian factory refurbs I've seen.

Speaking of Russian rifles, I took my Finnish M91 out to the range today. My friend brought his M44 carbine. Good times were had. Video below ...

Omaha Beach / Re: Omaha Beach 64

I'm simply not seeing the results that you guys are. In ALL of the many rounds I've played, the US was only able to cap 2 of the beach objectives. I still have no clue what the town looks like.

It still seems to me like the US needs more tickets, especially since it can be a bitch to cap the last beach objective when the entire German team is spawning there (sometimes 50+ players).

2.47 changelog for Omaha Beach 64

  • Added 500 tickets to both teams.
  • Renamed dummy flags on the beach
  • German heavy weapons in Vierville only spawn after the three WN flags are taken.
  • Minor cosmetic fixes
  • Limited kits are now labeled "Limited"
From what I've experienced in my recent Omaha matches post-patch, I think that it's still heavily unbalanced -- even for a good US team. The US needs more tickets added (don't add any for the Germans).

Furthermore, I think that some or all of the WN points should lock once they've been captured by the US. Or, as a compromise, have one of the WN nest capzones lock if two of them have been captured.

Today we had an excellent US team with good coorindation, plenty of arty spots, and decent ship gunners. We managed to cap 2 WN nests but no more -- the germans back capped WN3 while the entire US team was focused on WN1 and 2.

I just picked it up this afternoon and cannot stop caressing it  :-* . Thank you for your tip mate, I shall do that. I also have some excellent resources for such needs in my vicinity. Now I will have to get the ammo before I can start worrying about the front sight. By the way, it does lock up tightly. I love my Webley.
Heh yeah I feel the exact same way about my Nagant revolver! I'm taking it tomorrow actually.

Ooh, lucky you, that is a nice post war refurb! Mine is 1931 dated.
How can you tell it was refurbished? Just curious. I honestly don't know too much about the service history of these revolvers.

Time for another shooting video! A couple of weeks back I took my 1890 Steyr Gewehr 1888/05 "Commission Rifle" out for a spin. This video is the result. It turned out to be a great shooter with a nice trigger!

I had some feeding issues, which I think might be caused by the slick lacquer coating on the cartridge cases or the feed latch spring being old and loose. My Gew 88 was sold to the Turks -- probably during WWI -- but still retains all of its original German imperial markings.

I'm still not sure on accuracy since it was only the first time out. The bore is in great shape but who knows with the ammo. I was shooting Romanian surplus through it, since it is loaded lighter than all other WWII surplus.

I too recorded my first experience on Omaha Beach. I died alot but it was epic -- the Americans managed to capture most of the bluffs before the round ended. I'm really looking forward to playing it after the ticket count has been raised and balanced have been added.

A video of my Omaha experience yesterday ... it was bloody and the US lost like aways -- but at least we took a couple of beach points before defeat.

But the shiparty can reach all those positions as well
I think the ship arty is proving ineffective.  It depends too much on good spots.  Binoc kits are really limited and the spotter has to stay alive in that red zone somewhere.  An organized team might get it done but not pubbies.
Yes, the map is too reliant on an excellent ship gunner who also has great spots. Given that spotter kits are very limited and it's so damn hard to spawn and stay alive on the beach (let alone spot), this makes for a tough situation.

I also noticed that there are a bunch of scoped Lafette MG42s, which I think is overkill. I think regular MG42s with the normal ironsight zoom are plenty effective. I've lost count of the number of times I was sniped from behind an obstacle by a scoped Lafette.

I also think there need to be more shell craters on the beach for US soldiers to use for cover. Given the scoped MGs stated above, on top of all the other shit with a clear line of fire, it is quite impossible to cross that expanse -- even IF the ship gunner knows how to use smoke shells.

This map has so much potential, but it's ruined when the US don't have a shot at escaping the beach. Also remember that the most populated server - 762- doesn't run the map very often. As a result, you're not going to see people getting alot of practice with it. I would assume that people are going to play it like they are now, and adjust the map accordingly.

And here I am, waiting 5 and a half months already for my licence on my k11...  :-\
Heh my friend walked into a gunshow, found it, bought it, and walked out with it all in a span of 30 minutes. Sorry.

I'm too baked to understand if this was a joke or not, but I gotta be honest: I think at this point, it would kinda suck to get new voices. Like a lot of you, I've been listening to the same ones for over ten years now, but far from being tiring, I would never want to lose the old voice commands. I'd get used to new ones but they'd never be the same. In some corny way when I  put my headset on and hear the same old "We're taking casualties!" I've been listening to for almost half of my life, it feels like home. I have so many great memories of FH1 and 2 it would feel so weird, anti-climactic and just a waste of valuable resources to change. Even just spamming "CHARGE!" when I enter the game feels right. I associate the voice commands with good times in the way old maps or old names showing up in chat do.
I hate to admit it, but yeah, there is a special place in my heart for the FH1/BF1942 voice commands. I was so happy when the FH2 team decided to bring them all to the mod.
