General Discussion / Sd.Kfz. 7/1....where is it?
« on: 30-07-2011, 15:07:13 »
So I was just wondering what maps the german AA halftrack is on? I've only seen the transport version and was really looking forward to trying out the AA one as it's one of my favourite things to do in FH, anyone used it yet?

What was a minor irritation has turned into a major problem for me and I need some help. Since installing 2.2 I've been occasionally crashing while playing. These CTD's tend to happen just at completion of loading a map, just as I click the join button or several seconds into the round when I'm at the spawn screen.

Like I said this has been occasional perhaps two or three times a week I could live with it until now, I was just playing on the FH server and it crashed to desktop on the loading screen. I let out a little sigh of despair as usual then clicked to launch FH2.exe again, however when I got to the account login screen to connect to the accounts server I get a message flatly stating that 'The server has refused the connection'  :o :-\ :( :'(

Now I've tried several times and even tried disabling my firewall and it's still giving me the same message. I run FH2 on  an adminstrator account on a PC running vista, I've never had this problem before when FH2 crashed  and I'm at a loss as to what's causing it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks rustysteel.

Suggestions / immersive hud
« on: 11-09-2009, 21:09:52 »
I don't know if this was included in 2.2 as I just used the old file from 2.15 but I'm a player who likes to use the immersive hud. I'm just curious to see how many other players use it and I'd also like to make a couple of suggestions. For new players that don't know immersive hud gets rid of the crosshair and a lot of other stuff on the screen however I have two small suggestions to make it even better in my humble opinion :)

First I'd like to see the kill messages go completely along with the point messages, but I think any teamkill message must remain so I can apologize for my f*** ups. Is this possible? Can you select which type of messages to remove while keeping others? If it's not I'd still be for removing them completely I can just do a general apology on team chat for any future crimes commited at the start of a round :P

Second and this really is minor but it'd be nice if the flag cap bar was redesigned and moved towards the bottom of the screen. It looks a bit odd all by itself still following the curve of the minimap halfway up the screen. A nice wee straight bar near the bottom would be perfect.

So that's it, tell me what you think

Suggestions / Alternate view for tanks
« on: 16-08-2009, 20:08:49 »
Hello everyone, first post here so before I get started I would like to say a big thank you to the FH dev team for FH2. I've been playing Forgottenhope since 0.65 and I was very happy when FH2 came out as it made such massive improvements to the original. So thank you FH devs! (salutes)

Now that I've buttered you up  :P I have a suggestion to make regarding the default tank view. I love tanking in FH2 and I'd say that and manning AT guns are my favourite things to do in FH. So I've spent a lot of time using them and I came up with an idea to improve the depth and immersion of tanking in FH. Please forgive me if this has been suggested before but I did have a quick look and couldn't find anything.

So, right now we have a default view and a gunsight view but what I would love to see is the ability to 'turn out' when in the default view. Right now I think the view you get is quite open with no penalties i.e. you're not exposed to enemy fire making it a bit unfair I feel, for any brave AT troops trying to sneak up on a tank. I've mulled this over and thought of a workaround to get the abilty to open the hatch to have the wide open view and then to close it leaving you with a restricted internal cupola view or a periscope view.

In vanilla BF2 one of the few improvements they made was if you were a manning a machine gun on a tank you could press control to duck inside to avoid being sniped. When you did it you would get this view

I thought it may be possible to use this feature in some way to make a commander postion that could close the hatch by pressing control. When you do, instead of seeing the view above you could be a given a view that has a render of the interior over a normal view outside like the gunsight in tanks at the moment. I think it would be much more realistic, tankers would have to weigh up the choice of taking a sneak peek in a nice wide open view or getting their head blown off by arty or a sniper and it would make tanking feel so much more immersive. I know this will require a lot of effort and work to get ingame and I certainly don't expect it in the next release but I think it would be well worth it. So what do you think? Is it possible? I'm no modder but is the basic idea sound?
