more maps from eastern front pls
« on: 21-12-2016, 17:12:35 »
The east front needs more maps mainly from USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia,
After dukla pass was battle of Liptovský Mikuláš.

Background
Battles of Liptovsky Mikulas were a series of military confrontation between the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps and the Red Army against the German and Hungarian forces, which took place over two months in 1945.(3. February - 4. April 1945)After completion of the Carpathian-Dukla operation in which the Soviet and Czechoslovak soldiers won through over Dukla Pass, there was a pursuit of retreating German troops. On 22 January 1945, heavy fighting broke out on Branisko, which lasted three days. Czechoslovak and Soviet forces entered to the Spiš and High Tatras. After fighting at Važec and Východná the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps attack at 30. January Liptovský Hrádok, which occupied the day before partisan brigade of Milan Rastislav Štefánik. Here was front stopped for two reasons, 1. german has strong defense in the town, 2. the Soviet leadership intended to lead a The main strike to the area of Bohemia and Moravia through Ostrava Moravian Gate. To the Ostrava operations were transferred Czechoslovak tank and air units. In the Spiš remained only infantry and artillery. Towards further action was Liptovsky Mikulas, is situated between High and Low Tatras, this city became death trap.  The Germans built defend, The advantage was in a number of observation posts in the mountains. From this towers germans see every movement of the enemy army.at 3. February the Czechoslovak troops attempted to break through the German defenses, but in vain. In the struggle for Smrecany was also seriously wounded General Karol Klapálek. Other attacks were taken 6 and 13 February. Despite strong preparation of Soviet artillery and Katyushas, ended unsuccessful. Battles also supported by Slovak partisans who were trying to attack the German rear. Wehrmacht against them putting relatively strong unit and pushed them back into the mountains. On 3 March, attacked the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps and the 24th Rifle Division of the Red Army after half an hour of artillery preparation for Liptovsky Mikulas. Czechoslovak soldiers reached only a few partial successes, 24th Rifle Division managed to break into Liptovsky Mikulas. The Germans, did not give up and tried to take the city back. From 3rd to 11th March they take 64 attack. Meanwhile, there was a changing of the attacking Soviet and Czechoslovak soldiers. Czechoslovakian troops were supplemented by new units, but the majority of its members consisted of mobilized reservists from East Slovakia, which lack the necessary training and motivation to fight. The disadvantage of Soviet and Czechoslovakian units were the German and Hungarian units had occupied city from three sides, while being picked off by artillery and mortars. At March 10, the Germans managed to get in a suburb of Liptovsky Mikulas, which in heavy fighting captured the next day. Preparation of a new offensive lasted until March 20, when Russian army attack city again. On that day, however, came a rain.Roads became muddy. Soviet self-propelled guns was traped. The attacking forces failed to secure some points and offensive turned into a series of positional battles. Soviet and Czechoslovakian troops lacked support from tanks and aircraft. The state still fighting lasted until the 3rd of April. On the night of April 4, came the massive detonation of the city and the Germans must left from reion, because from north across Orava valley coming the Soviet 17th Guards Rifle Corps. The only place to retreat became a valley of Vah on the west, because in March and early April, the Soviets advanced southern Slovakia and April 4, liberated Bratislava. The retreat of the German and Hungarian troops continued for the duration of continuous fighting on the retreat. April 4 was liberated Ruzomberok, on April 11, Martin and April 30, Žilina. Then Czechoslovakia. Soldiers pursued the German troops in Moravia, In Moravia seduced 1st Czechoslovak army. Corps last important battle - the battle for Břest.
Sides
On the German side fought 320. Volksgrenadierdivision + 1. Panzerarmee + Hungarian 1st Army. Commander Gotthard Heinrici.
On the Czechoslovakian side fought The 1st Brigade (commander gen. J. Satorie) + 3rd Brigade (commander gen. K. Klapálek)  + 108. Guards light self-propelled guns (SU-76) + 24th Rifle Division (24.sd, commander gen. A. F. Prokhorov)+  4th Brigade (commander Col. P. Kuna) + 1. Czechoslovakian Army Corps (1.čsas, commander gen. L. Svoboda)
Battle
On the German side fought Volksgrenadierdivision 320. (320.VGrD, commander gen. E. von Kiliani) of XXXIX. Gebirgskorps (Mountain Corps) Army Group "Heinrici" (commander gen. G. Heinrici), from March 22 reshaped (reduced) to the first Panzerarmee (1.PzA, Panzer Army commander gen. W. Nehring) within the Army Group "Mitte" ( "Center", the commander field Marshal F. Schörner). A further units of the Hungarian 1st Army originally (before it was decimated) within the Army Group "Heinrici." The first attacks 1.Czechoslovakian Army Corps at Liptovsky Sv. Mikulas on days 3, 5 and 13 February were repulsed. Because other armies Front (1st Guards Army and 38th Army), attacking north of the Tatras, they have achieved the objectives set and began to prepare to attack Ostrava, passed on February 15 the entire 18th and on the defensive. For purposes of Ostrava operations were 18th and removed virtually all armor units. Covered even 1 Czechoslovakian separate tank brigade, which is 16.2 moved to 38.A. Corps, consisting now only the 1st Brigade (commander gen. J. Satorie) and the 3rd Brigade (commander gen. K. Klapálek), leaving only a few armored vehicles. But he could still count on the support 108. Guards light self-propelled guns (SU-76). The situation was similar for the entire 18th and tasked only parry a mountainous area between the right wing and 4.UF 2.UF fighting south of the Tatras. In order to distract the German 1.PzA from the Ostrava area was restored in early March attack on Liptovsky Sv. Mikulas. The main frontal attack to the city led the Soviet 24th Rifle Division (24.sd, commander gen. A. F. Prokhorov) 1.Czechoslovakian Army Corps attacked along the right wing. Liptovsky Sv. Mikulas was released March 3, 1945; further steps to prevent numerous enemy counterattacks. 9. March therefore he went into the 18th and Defense 24.sd should be withdrawn to another section and defend the city should take 1.Czechoslovakian Army Corps However, before the exchange is completed, the Germans at night 9/10. March counterattack (power of two infantry regiments and four self-propelled guns) and 11th March were Czechoslovakian and Soviet troops from the city completely pushed out. By enemy gunfire was seriously wounded general Klapálek. Liptovsky Sv. Mikulas so after Eastern Slovakian Chop became the second and thankfully last major Czechoslovakian town that shortly after the liberation again fell into the hands of the Germans. With regard to rumors that the ongoing shift of Czechoslovakian and Soviet troops were Germans divulged by local fascists, and that numerous German troops hiding in the city itself, the Soviets carried out the forced evacuation of the 10 km front line (a common practice, although in Czechoslovakia previously avoided). At that time, the reorganization of the corps. From 13. March was reinforced at the front of the 4th Brigade (commander Col. P. Kuna), consisting mainly of conscripts from eastern Slovakia. Also, the 1st and 3rd Brigades were completed on the full state (now held by each brigade strength of three complete battalions). The ratio of experienced soldiers and recruits so during the fighting for the town changed from 1: 1 to 1: 2. Corps and neighboring units gradually gained in Liptov over the opponent considerable numerical superiority (but for the continuing absence of armor unit and the lack of experienced cadres). Since the end of March came in Ostrava operations in the second, decisive phase, it was decided to renew the attack on Liptovsky Mikulas. At the same time there have been personnel changes: gen. Petrova, revoked inability to conquer Ostrava, replaced as commander 4.UF gene. A.I Yeremenko commander 1.Czechoslovakian amry corps and was instead gene. Freedom revoked in Kosice (where he was to assume the office of Minister of Defence) appointed gen. Klapálek (briefly represented gen. B. Bock). The attack was launched on March 30. The largest section of the front before Liptovský Mikulaáš was entrusted with the 4th Brigade, which, however, should only fill the space on the left flank attack 24.sd who had take city from left, on the right wing of the 1st Brigade, which was entrusted with a major attack to the right (and the shortest segment queue), and further north the 3rd Brigade. During the fighting, it was found that the Germans were preparing to retreat, as a result of the forceful entry 2.UF to Bratislava their situation on the southern section of the front became hopeless (Bratislava directly threatened by already 2.4). Attempting to cut off the retreat of the Germans Liptovsky Mikulas, however, failed and the main enemy forces evacuated the city on the night of April 4, 1945. On the same day it occupied unit 1. Czechoslovakian Army Corps and continued to pursue the enemy (05.04 liberated Ruzomberok, about 20 km to the west), which retreated to prepared positions before Zilina. Fights about Liptovsky Sv. Mikulas was the second bloodiest after Dukla Pass. The service was extremely unpopular in the congregation especially in Slovak soldiers who had it close to home:  estimated 60-70% of conscripts called up dropping out  and prefer hiding in the woods. A large percentage of losses congregation consisted of about 500 missing, mostly deserters; Also during the  fighting Czechoslovak Field courts handed down 25 convictions for harming. Total losses corps were nearly 2,000 men, of whom more than 600 dead.

If you're about to begin your adventure with modding, then I suggest to check the modding section of our forum, choose to either make models or create maps and then follow some basic tutorials and start with small projects... unless you are some kind of a machine with unlimitted free time in your hands ;)

This topic is a good way to start. You will find lots of tips and answers to the frequently asked beginners questions in there ;)

Hi, jakub123

To make maps we create them through BF2Editor and for making models we use Autodesk 3ds Max9 (which is the latest version that is compatible for BF2 use).

Best regards,
Roughbeak
